Improved analysis of the bounds from the electroweak precision tests on the 4-site model

We present a new complete analysis of the electroweak precision observables within the recently proposed 4-site Higgsless model, which is based on the SU(2)_L x SU(2)_1 x SU(2)_2 x U(1)_Y gauge symmetry and predicts six extra gauge bosons, W_{1,2} and Z_{1,2}. Within the epsilon_i (i=1,2,3,b) parametrization, we compute for the first time the EWPT bounds via a complete numerical algorithm going beyond commonly used approximations. Both epsilon_{1,3} impose strong constraints. Hence, it is mandatory to consider them jointly when extracting EWPT bounds and to fully take in to account the correlations among the electroweak precison measurements. The phenomenological consequence is that the extra gauge bosons must be heavier than 250 GeV. Their couplings to SM fermions, even if bounded, might be of the same order of magnitude than the SM ones. In contrast to other Higgsless models, the 4-site model is not fermiophobic. The new gauge bosons could thus be discovered in the favoured Drell-Yan channel already during the present run of the LHC experiment.

Z' production at the LHC in the four-site Higgsless model

We study the phenomenology of the neutral gauge sector of the four-site Higgsless model, based on the SU(2)_L x SU(2)_1 x SU(2)_2 x U(1)_Y gauge symmetry, at present colliders. The model predicts the existence of two neutral and four charged extra gauge bosons, Z_{1,2} and W^\pm_{1,2}. We expand and update a previous study, by concentrating on the neutral sector. We derive new limits on Z_{1,2}-boson masses and couplings from recent direct searches at the Tevatron. We moreover estimate the discovery potential at the Tevatron with a project luminosity L=10 fb^{-1}, and at the 7 TeV LHC with L=1 fb^{-1}. In contrast to other Higgsless theories characterized by almost fermiophobic extra gauge bosons, the four-site model allows sizeable Z_{1,2}-boson couplings to SM fermions. Owing to this feature, we find that in the next two years the extra Z_{1,2}-bosons could be discovered in the favoured Drell-Yan channel at the 7 TeV LHC for Z_{1,2} masses in the TeV region, depending on model parameters.

From hidden symmetry to extra dimensions: a five dimensional formulation of the Degenerate BESS model

We consider the continuum limit of a moose model corresponding to a generalization to N sites of the Degenerate BESS model. The five dimensional formulation emerging in this limit is a realization of a RS1 type model with SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R in the bulk, broken by boundary conditions and a vacuum expectation value on the infrared brane. A low energy effective Lagrangian is derived by means of the holographic technique and corresponding bounds on the model parameters are obtained.

Invisible Higgs Decays from Higgs Graviscalar Mixing

We recompute the invisible Higgs decay width arising from Higgs-graviscalar mixing in the ADD model, comparing the original derivation in the non-diagonal mass basis to that in a diagonal mass basis. The results obtained are identical (and differ by a factor of 2 from the original calculation) but the diagonal-basis derivation is pedagogically useful for clarifying the physics of the invisible width from mixing. We emphasize that both derivations make it clear that a direct scan in energy for a process such as $WW\to WW$ mediated by Higgs plus graviscalar intermediate resonances would follow a {\it single} Breit-Wigner form with total width given by $Γ^{tot}=Γ_h^{SM}+Γ_{invisible}$. We also compute the additional contributions to the invisible width due to direct Higgs to graviscalar pair decays. We find that the invisible width due to the latter is relatively small unless the Higgs mass is comparable to or larger than the effective extra-dimensional Planck mass.

Modified spontaneous symmetry breaking pattern by brane-bulk interaction terms

We show how translational invariance can be broken by the vacuum that drives the spontaneous symmetry breaking of extra-dimensional extensions of the Standard Model, when delta-like interactions between brane and bulk scalar fields are present. We explicitly build some examples of vacuum configurations, which induce the spontaneous symmetry breaking, and have non trivial profile in the extra coordinate.

Probing extra dimensions through the invisible Higgs decay

In the large extra dimension model of Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos and Dvali the presence of an interaction between the Ricci scalar curvature and the Higgs doublet of the Standard Model makes a light Higgs boson observable at LHC at the 5 sigma level through the fusion process pp-> W*W* +X -> Higgs, graviscalars +X -> invisible+X for the portion of the Higgs-graviscalar mixing (xi) and effective Planck mass (M_D) parameter space where channels relying on visible Higgs decays fail to achieve a 5 sigma signal. However even if the LHC has a good chance of seeing a signal, it will not be able to determine the parameters of the model with any real precision. This goal can be reached by adding the following LC measurements: gamma+missing E_T, Higgs production and decay in the visible SM-like final states and in the invisible final state.

Invisible Higgs in large extra dimension models

In large extra dimension models the presence of an interaction between the Ricci scalar curvature and the Higgs doublet of the Standard Model can give rise to an invisible decay of the Higgs to Kaluza Klein graviscalars. The corresponding invisible width can cause a suppression of the LHC rates of a light Higgs in the visible channels below 5 sigma in some regions of the parameter space of the model. However in such regions the Higgs can be discovered through its invisible decay. The combination of the measurements done at the LHC and the LC can determine to some accuracy the parameters of the model.

The scalar sector in an extended electroweak gauge symmetry model

The scalar sector of the linear formulation of the degenerate BESS model is analyzed. The model predicts two additional scalar states which mix with the SM Higgs. As a consequence the properties of the SM Higgs are modified and Higgs precision measurements can constrain the mixing angle. One of the two additional Higgses has no coupling to fermions and suppressed couplings to ordinary gauge bosons, therefore its detection is difficult. The production of the other two Higgses at future e+e- linear colliders in the Higgstrahlung and fusion channels is investigated.

On the Complementarity of Higgs and Radion Searches at LHC

Models with 3-branes in extra dimensions typically imply the existence of a radion, phi that can mix with the Higgs, h, thereby modifying the Higgs properties and the prospects for its detectability at the LHC. The presence of the phi will extend the scope of the LHC searches. Detection of both the phi and the h might be possible. In this paper, we study the complementarity of the observation of gg -> h, with h -> gamma gamma or h -> ZZ -> 4 leptons, and gg -> phi -> ZZ -> 4 leptons at the LHC in the context of the Randall-Sundrum model. The potential for determining the nature of the detected scalar(s) at the LHC and at an e+e- linear collider is discussed, both separately and in combination.

Strong tree level unitarity violations in the extra dimensional Standard Model with scalars in the bulk

We show how the tree level unitarity violations of compactified extra dimensional extensions of the Standard Model become much stronger when the scalar sector is included in the bulk. This effect occurs when the couplings are not suppressed for larger Kaluza-Klein levels, and could have relevant consequences for the phenomenology of the next generation of colliders. We also introduce a simple and generic formalism to obtain unitarity bounds for finite energies, taking into account coupled channels including the towers of Kaluza-Klein excitations.

The Equivalence Theorem for gauge boson scattering in a five dimensional Standard Model

We present an Equivalence Theorem for the longitudinal components of the gauge bosons in a compactified five dimensional extension of the Standard Model, whose spontaneous symmetry breaking is driven either by one Higgs in the bulk or by one on a brane or by both togheter. We also show some implications for the unitarity bounds on Higgs masses.

Studies of New Vector Resonances at the CLIC Multi-TeV e+e- Collider

Several models predict the existence of new vector resonances in the multi-TeV region, which can be produced in high energy e+e- collisions in the s-channel. In this paper we review the existing limits on the masses of these resonances from LEP/SLC and TEVATRON data and from atomic parity violation in some specific models. We study the potential of a multi-TeV e+e- collider, such as CLIC, for the determination of their properties and nature.

Higgs-Boson Interactions within the Randall-Sundrum Model

The scalar sector of the Randall-Sundrum model is discussed. The effective potential for the Standard Model Higgs-boson (h) interacting with Kaluza-Klein excitations of the graviton and the radion (phi) has been derived and it has been shown that only the Standard Model-like vacuum is allowed. The theoretical and experimental consequences of the curvature-scalar mixing xi RHH introduced on the visible brane are considered and simple sum rules that relate the couplings of the mass eigenstates (h) and (phi) to pairs of vector bosons and fermions are derived. The sum rule for the ZZh and ZZ phi couplings in combination with LEP/LEP2 data implies that not both the h and phi can be light. We present explicit results for the still allowed region in the (mh,mphi) plane that remains after imposing the LEP upper limits for non-standard scalar couplings to a ZZ pair. The phenomenological consequences of the mixing are investigated and, in particular, it is shown that the Higgs-boson decay h -> phi phi would provide an experimental signature for non-zero xi and can have a very substantial impact on the Higgs-boson searches, having BR(h->phi phi) as large as 30 - 40 %.

Non Linear Breaking of the Electroweak Symmetry and Large Extra Dimensions

We consider the coupling to gravity in 4+delta dimensions of a non linear electroweak symmetry breaking sector, with delta compactified dimensions, and derive an effective lagrangian by integrating over the KK excitations of the graviton and of the dilaton. The effective chiral lagrangian describes the interactions of the electroweak gauge bosons and the goldstone bosons from the electroweak breaking.

Tests for a Strong Electroweak Sector at Future e^+e^- High Energy Colliders

The study of the scattering at high energy of the gauge bosons W and Z, in particular longitudinally polarized W and Z, can clarify the mechanism of spontaneous symmetry breaking in the Standard Model of the electroweak interactions. Different models of strong electroweak sector, based on the effective lagrangian approach are briefly reviewed. They include models with no resonance, with scalar resonance, additional vector and axial-vector resonances. The effective Lagrangians are derived from the chiral symmetry of the symmetry breaking sector. Limits on these models from existing measurements, mainly LEP and Tevatron, are considered. We study also direct and indirect effects of the new interactions at high energy future e^+e^- linear colliders, through WW scattering and the direct production of these new vector gauge bosons.
