The Leray transform: distinguished measures, symmetries and polygamma inequalities

New symmetries, norm computations and spectral information are obtained for the Leray transform on a class of unbounded hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{C}^2$. Emphasis is placed on certain distinguished measures, with results on operator norm monotonicity established by proving new polygamma inequalities. Classical techniques of Bernstein-Widder and Euler-Maclaurin play crucial roles in our analysis. Underpinning this work is a projective geometric theory of duality, which manifests here in the form of Hölder invariance.

High frequency behavior of the Leray transform: model hypersurfaces and projective duality

The Leray transform $\bf{L}$ is studied on a family $M_γ$ of unbounded hypersurfaces in two complex dimensions. For a large class of measures, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the $L^2$-boundedness of $\bf{L}$, along with an exact spectral description of $\bf{L}^*\bf{L}$. This yields both the norm and high-frequency norm of $\bf{L}$, the latter giving an affirmative answer to an unbounded analogue of an open conjecture relating the essential norm of $\bf{L}$ to a projective invariant on a bounded hypersurface. $\bf{L}$ is also shown to play a central role in bridging the function theoretic and projective geometric notions of duality. Our work leads to the construction of projectively invariant Hardy spaces on the $M_γ$, along with the realization of their duals as invariant Hardy spaces on the dual hypersurfaces.

Sums of CR and projective dual CR functions

A smooth, strongly $\mathbb{C}$-convex, real hypersurface $S$ in $\mathbb{CP}^n$ admits a projective dual CR structure in addition to the standard CR structure. Given a smooth function $u$ on $S$, we provide characterizations for when $u$ can be decomposed as a sum of a CR function and a dual CR function. Following work of Lee on pluriharmonic boundary values, we provide a characterization using differential forms. We further provide a characterization using tangential vector fields in the style of Audibert and Bedford.

Sums of CR functions from competing CR structures

In this paper we characterize sums of CR functions from competing CR structures in two scenarios. In one scenario the structures are conjugate and we are adding to the theory of pluriharmonic boundary values. In the second scenario the structures are related by projective duality considerations. In both cases we provide explicit vector field-based characterizations for two-dimensional circular domains satisfying natural convexity conditions.

Remarks on variational problems for Fefferman's measure

We investigate the Plateau and isoperimetric problems associated to Fefferman's measure for strongly pseudoconvex real hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^n$ (focusing on the case $n=2$), showing in particular that the isoperimetric problem shares features of both the euclidean isoperimetric problem and the corresponding problem in Blaschke's equiaffine geometry in which the key inequalities are reversed. The problems are invariant under constant-Jacobian biholomorphism, but we also introduce a non-trivial modified isoperimetric quantity invariant under general biholomorphism.

The spectrum of the Leray transform for convex Reinhardt domains in $\mathbb C^2$

The Leray transform and related boundary operators are studied for a class of convex Reinhardt domains in $\mathbb C^2$. Our class is self-dual; it contains some domains with less than $C^2$-smooth boundary and also some domains with smooth boundary and degenerate Levi form. $L^2$-regularity is proved, and essential spectra are computed with respect to a family of boundary measures which includes surface measure. A duality principle is established providing explicit unitary equivalence between operators on domains in our class and operators on the corresponding polar domains. Many of these results are new even for the classical case of smoothly bounded strongly convex Reinhardt domains.

The role of Fourier modes in extension theorems of Hartogs-Chirka type

We generalize Chirka's theorem on the extension of functions holomorphic in a neighbourhood of graph(F)\cup(\partial D\times D) -- where D is the open unit disc and graph(F) denotes the graph of a continuous D-valued function F -- to the bidisc. We extend holomorphic functions by applying the Kontinuitaetssatz to certain continuous families of analytic annuli, which is a procedure suited to configurations not covered by Chirka's theorem.
