Long-range spin transport in asymmetric quadruple quantum dots configurations

We theoretically investigate long-range coherent charge transport in linear quadruple quantum dot (QQD) arrays under reduced symmetry configurations. Employing a master equation approach, we identify precise resonant conditions that enable minimal occupation of intermediate dots, thereby facilitating long-range transfer between distant sites. Our results highlight the critical role of parameter asymmetry and coherent tunneling mechanisms in achieving efficient quantum state transfer.

Hardware-efficient entangled measurements for variational quantum algorithms

Variational algorithms have received significant attention in recent years due to their potential to solve practical problems using noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices. A fundamental step of these algorithms is the evaluation of the expected value of Hamiltonians, and hence efficient schemes to perform this task are required. The standard approach employs local measurements of Pauli operators and requires a large number of circuits. An alternative is to make use of entangled measurements, which might introduce additional gates between physically disconnected qubits that harm the performance. As a solution to this problem, we propose hardware-efficient entangled measurements (HEEM), that is, measurements that permit only entanglement between physically connected qubits. We show that this strategy enhances the evaluation of molecular Hamiltonians in NISQ devices by reducing the number of circuits required without increasing their depth. We provide quantitative metrics of how this approach offers better results than local measurements and arbitrarily entangled measurements. We estimate the ground-state energy of the H$_2$O molecule with classical simulators and quantum hardware using the variational quantum eigensolver with HEEM.

Photo-assisted spin transport in double quantum dots with spin-orbit interaction

We investigate the effect of spin-orbit interaction on the intra- and interdot particle dynamics of a double quantum dot under ac electric fields. The former is modeled as an effective ac magnetic field that produces electric-dipole spin resonance transitions, while the latter is introduced via spin-flip tunneling amplitudes. We observe the appearance of non-trivial spin-polarized dark states, arising from an ac-induced interference between photo-assisted spin-conserving and spin-flip tunneling processes. These dark states can be employed to precisely measure the spin-orbit coupling in quantum dot systems. Furthermore, we show that the interplay between photo-assisted transitions and spin-flip tunneling allows the system to operate as a highly tunable spin filter. Finally, we investigate the operation of the system as a resonant flopping-mode qubit for arbitrary ac voltage amplitudes, allowing for high tunability and enhanced qubit control possibilities.

Tunable directional emission and collective dissipation with quantum metasurfaces

Subwavelength atomic arrays, recently labeled as quantum metamaterials, have emerged as an exciting platform for obtaining novel quantum optical phenomena. The strong interference effects in these systems generate subradiant excitations that propagate through the atomic array with very long lifetimes. Here, we demonstrate that one can harness these excitations to obtain tunable directional emission patterns and collective dissipative couplings when placing judiciously additional atoms nearby the atomic array. For doing that, we first characterize the optimal array geometry to obtain directional emission patterns. Then, we characterize the best atomic positions to couple efficiently to the subradiant metasurface excitations, and provide several improvement strategies based on entangled atomic clusters or bilayers. Afterwards, we also show how the directionality of the emission pattern can be controlled through the relative dipole orientation between the auxiliary atoms and the one of the array. Finally, we benchmark how these directional emission patterns translate into to collective, anisotropic dissipative couplings between the auxiliary atoms by studying the lifetime modification of atomic entangled states.
