Talaria: A Framework for Simulation of Permissioned Blockchains for Logistics and Beyond

In this paper, we present Talaria, a novel permissioned blockchain simulator that supports numerous protocols and use cases, most notably in supply chain management. Talaria extends the capability of BlockSim, an existing blockchain simulator, to include permissioned blockchains and serves as a foundation for further private blockchain assessment. Talaria is designed with both practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (pBFT) and simplified version of Proof-of-Authority consensus protocols, but can be revised to include other permissioned protocols within its modular framework. Moreover, Talaria is able to simulate different types of malicious authorities and a variable daily transaction load at each node. In using Talaria, business practitioners and policy planners have an opportunity to measure, evaluate, and adapt a range of blockchain solutions for commercial operations.

Flow of anisometric particles in a quasi-2D hopper

The stationary flow field in a quasi-two-dimensional hopper is investigated experimentally. The behavior of materials consisting of beads and elongated particles with different aspect ratio is compared. We show, that while the vertical velocity in the flowing region can be fitted with a Gaussian function for beads, in the case of elongated grains the flowing channel is narrower and is bordered with sharper velocity gradient. For this case, we quantify deviations from the Gaussian velocity profile. Relative velocity fluctuations are considerably larger and slower for elongated grains.

Models for a multimode bosonic tunneling junction

We discuss the relaxation dynamics for a bosonic tunneling junction with two modes in the central potential well. We use a master equation description for ultracold bosons tunneling in the presence of noise and incoherent coupling processes into the two central modes. Whilst we cannot quantitatively reproduce the experimental data of the setup reported in [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 115}, 050601 (2015)], we find a reasonable qualitative agreement of the refilling process of the initially depleted central site. Our results may pave the way for the control of bosonic tunneling junctions by the simultaneous presence of decoherence processes and atom-atom interaction.

Spectral analysis of two-dimensional Bose-Hubbard models

One-dimensional Bose-Hubbard models are well known to obey a transition from regular to quantum-chaotic spectral statistics. We are extending this concept to relatively simple two-dimensional many-body models. Also in two dimensions a transition from regular to chaotic spectral statistics is found and discussed. In particular, we analyze the dependence of the spectral properties on the bond number of the two-dimensional lattices and the applied boundary conditions. For maximal connectivity, the systems behave most regularly in agreement with the applicability of mean-field approaches in the limit of many nearest-neighbor couplings at each site.
