Search for Large Extra Dimensions Using Dielectron and Diphoton Events in $p\bar{p}$ Collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV

Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulous, and Dvali have proposed a model of low-scale quantum gravity featuring large extra dimensions. In this model, the exchange of Kaluza-Klein towers of gravitons can enhance the production rate of electron and photon pairs at high invariant mass in proton-antiproton collisions. The amount of enhancement is characterized by the parameter $M_S$, the fundamental Planck scale in the bulk extra dimensions. We have searched for this effect using 100 pb$^{-1}$ of diphoton data and 110 pb$^{-1}$ of dielectron data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab at $\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV during the 1992-1996 run. In the absence of a signal, we place 95% confidence-level limits on $M_S$ of 905 GeV/$c^2$ and 826 GeV/$c^2$, for the case of constructive and destructive graviton interference respectively.

Top Quark Production and Decay at the Tevatron

Recent measurements of the top quark production cross section and decay properties by the CDF and D0 experiments are described. The cross section has been measured in dilepton, lepton plus jets, and all-hadronic final states, and a measurement of $BR(t \to Wb)/BR(t \to Wq)$, where $q$ is any quark, has been performed. The results, though statistics-limited, are consistent with each other and with theoretical predictions.

Top Quark Physics: Future Measurements

(Report of the Top Physics working group at the 1996 DPF/DPB Snowmass workshop, to appear in the proceedings). We discuss the study of the top quark at future experiments and machines. Top's large mass makes it a unique probe of physics at the natural electroweak scale. We emphasize measurements of the top quark's mass, width, and couplings, as well as searches for rare or nonstandard decays, and discuss the complementary roles played by hadron and lepton colliders.

Top Quark Physics Results from CDF and D0

I summarize recent top quark physics results from the Fermilab Tevatron experiments. Since the observation of the top quark by CDF and D0 in 1995, the experimental focus has shifted to a detailed study of the top quark's properties. This article describes recent measurements of the top quark production cross section, mass, kinematic properties, branching ratios, $V_{tb}$, and the W polarization in top decays.

New Shower Maximum Trigger for Electrons and Photons at CDF

For the 1994 Tevatron collider run, CDF has upgraded the electron and photon trigger hardware to make use of shower position and size information from the central shower maximum detector. For electrons, the upgrade has resulted in a 50\% reduction in backgrounds while retaining approximately 90\% of the signal. The new trigger also eliminates the background to photon triggers from single-phototube discharge.

Measurement of Correlated $b$ Quark Cross Sections at CDF

Using data collected during the 1992-93 collider run at Fermilab, CDF has made measurements of correlated $b$ quark cross section where one $b$ is detected via a muon from semileptonic decay and the second $b$ is detected with secondary vertex techniques. We report on measurements of the cross section as a function of the momentum of the second $b$ and as a function of the azimuthal separation of the two $b$ quarks, for transverse momentum of the initial $b$ quark greater than 15 GeV. Results are compared to QCD predictions.
