Quantitative relative entropy estimates on the whole space for convolution interaction forces

Quantitative estimates are derived, on the whole space, for the relative entropy between the joint law of random interacting particles and the tensorized law at the limiting systeme. The developed method combines the relative entropy method under the moderated interaction scaling introduced by Oeschläger, and the propagation of chaos in probability. The result includes the case that the interaction force does not need to be a potential field. Furthermore, if the interaction force is a potential field, with a convolutional structure, then the developed estimate also provides the modulated energy estimates. Moreover, we demonstrate propagation of chaos for large stochastic systems of interacting particles and discuss possible applications to various interacting particle systems, including the Coulomb interaction case.

On the existence of weak solutions to stochastic Volterra equations

The existence of weak solutions is established for stochastic Volterra equations with time-inhomogeneous coefficients allowing for general kernels in the drift and convolutional or bounded kernels in the diffusion term. The presented approach is based on a newly formulated local martingale problem associated to stochastic Volterra equations.

Well-posedness of diffusion-aggregation equations with bounded kernels and their mean-field approximations

The well-posedness and regularity properties of diffusion-aggregation equations, emerging from interacting particle systems, are established on the whole space for bounded interaction force kernels by utilizing a compactness convergence argument to treat the nonlinearity as well as a Moser iteration. Moreover, we prove a quantitative estimate in probability with arbitrary algebraic rate between the approximative interacting particle systems and the approximative McKean-Vlasov SDEs, which implies propagation of chaos for the interacting particle systems.

A Càdlàg Rough Path Foundation for Robust Finance

Using rough path theory, we provide a pathwise foundation for stochastic Itô integration, which covers most commonly applied trading strategies and mathematical models of financial markets, including those under Knightian uncertainty. To this end, we introduce the so-called Property (RIE) for càdlàg paths, which is shown to imply the existence of a càdlàg rough path and of quadratic variation in the sense of Föllmer. We prove that the corresponding rough integrals exist as limits of left-point Riemann sums along a suitable sequence of partitions. This allows one to treat integrands of non-gradient type, and gives access to the powerful stability estimates of rough path theory. Additionally, we verify that (path-dependent) functionally generated trading strategies and Cover's universal portfolio are admissible integrands, and that Property (RIE) is satisfied by both (Young) semimartingales and typical price paths.

Stochastic Volterra equations with Hölder diffusion coefficients

The existence of strong solutions and pathwise uniqueness are established for one-dimensional stochastic Volterra equations with locally H{ö}lder continuous diffusion coefficients and sufficiently regular kernels. Moreover, we study the sample path regularity, the integrability and the semimartingale property of solutions to one-dimensional stochastic Volterra equations.

A Sobolev rough path extension theorem via regularity structures

We show that every $\mathbb{R}^d$-valued Sobolev path with regularity $α$ and integrability $p$ can be lifted to a Sobolev rough path provided $α< 1/p<1/3$. The novelty of our approach is its use of ideas underlying Hairer's reconstruction theorem generalized to a framework allowing for Sobolev models and Sobolev modelled distributions. Moreover, we show that the corresponding lifting map is locally Lipschitz continuous with respect to the inhomogeneous Sobolev metric.

Model-free Portfolio Theory: A Rough Path Approach

Based on a rough path foundation, we develop a model-free approach to stochastic portfolio theory (SPT). Our approach allows to handle significantly more general portfolios compared to previous model-free approaches based on F{ö}llmer integration. Without the assumption of any underlying probabilistic model, we prove a pathwise formula for the relative wealth process which reduces in the special case of functionally generated portfolios to a pathwise version of the so-called master formula of classical SPT. We show that the appropriately scaled asymptotic growth rate of a far reaching generalization of Cover's universal portfolio based on controlled paths coincides with that of the best retrospectively chosen portfolio within this class. We provide several novel results concerning rough integration, and highlight the advantages of the rough path approach by showing that (non-functionally generated) log-optimal portfolios in an ergodic It{ô} diffusion setting have the same asymptotic growth rate as Cover's universal portfolio and the best retrospectively chosen one.

Optimal extension to Sobolev rough paths

We show that every $\mathbb{R}^d$-valued Sobolev path with regularity $α$ and integrability $p$ can be lifted to a Sobolev rough path in the sense of T. Lyons provided $α>1/p>0$. Moreover, we prove the existence of unique rough path lifts which are optimal w.r.t. strictly convex functionals among all possible rough path lifts given a Sobolev path. As examples, we consider the rough path lift with minimal Sobolev norm and characterize the Stratonovich rough path lift of a Brownian motion as optimal lift w.r.t. to a suitable convex functional. Generalizations of the results to Besov spaces are briefly discussed.

Càdlàg Rough Differential Equations with Reflecting Barriers

We investigate rough differential equations with a time-dependent reflecting lower barrier, where both the driving (rough) path and the barrier itself may have jumps. Assuming the driving signals allow for Young integration, we provide existence, uniqueness and stability results. When the driving signal is a càdlàg $p$-rough path for $p \in [2,3)$, we establish existence to general reflected rough differential equations, as well as uniqueness in the one-dimensional case.

Local times and Tanaka--Meyer formulae for càdlàg paths

Three concepts of local times for deterministic c{à}dl{à}g paths are developed and the corresponding pathwise Tanaka--Meyer formulae are provided. For semimartingales, it is shown that their sample paths a.s. satisfy all three pathwise definitions of local times and that all coincide with the classical semimartingale local time. In particular, this demonstrates that each definition constitutes a legit pathwise counterpart of probabilistic local times. The last pathwise construction presented in the paper expresses local times in terms of normalized numbers of interval crossings and does not depend on the choice of the sequence of grids. This is a new result also for c{à}dl{à}g semimartingales, which may be related to previous results of Nicole El~Karoui and Marc Lemieux.

One-dimensional game-theoretic differential equations

We provide a very brief introduction to typical paths and the corresponding Itô type integration. Relying on this robust Itô integration, we prove an existence and uniqueness result for one-dimensional differential equations driven by typical paths with non-Lipschitz continuous coefficients in the spirit of Yamada--Watanabe as well as an approximation result in the spirit of Doss--Sussmann.

Martingale optimal transport duality

We obtain a dual representation of the Kantorovich functional defined for functions on the Skorokhod space using quotient sets. Our representation takes the form of a Choquet capacity generated by martingale measures satisfying additional constraints to ensure compatibility with the quotient sets. These sets contain stochastic integrals defined pathwise and two such definitions starting with simple integrands are given. Another important ingredient of our analysis is a regularized version of Jakubowski's $S$-topology on the Skorokhod space.

On Sobolev rough paths

We introduce the space of rough paths with Sobolev regularity and the corresponding concept of controlled Sobolev paths. Based on these notions, we study rough path integration and rough differential equations. As main result, we prove that the solution map associated to differential equations driven by rough paths is a locally Lipschitz continuous map on the Sobolev rough path space for any arbitrary low regularity $α$ and integrability $p$ provided $α>1/p$.

Stochastic Analysis with Modelled Distributions

Using a Besov topology on spaces of modelled distributions in the framework of Hairer's regularity structures, we prove the reconstruction theorem on these Besov spaces with negative regularity. The Besov spaces of modelled distributions are shown to be UMD Banach spaces and of martingale type $2$. As a consequence, this gives access to a rich stochastic integration theory and to existence and uniqueness results for mild solutions of semilinear stochastic partial differential equations in these spaces of modelled distributions and for distribution-valued SDEs. Furthermore, we provide a Fubini type theorem allowing to interchange the order of stochastic integration and reconstruction.

Paracontrolled distribution approach to stochastic Volterra equations

Based on the notion of paracontrolled distributions, we provide existence and uniqueness results for rough Volterra equations of convolution type with potentially singular kernels and driven by the newly introduced class of convolutional rough paths. The existence of such rough paths above a wide class of stochastic processes including the fractional Brownian motion is shown. As applications we consider various types of rough and stochastic (partial) differential equations such as rough differential equations with delay, stochastic Volterra equations driven by Gaussian processes and moving average equations driven by Lévy processes.

Characterization of non-linear Besov spaces

The canonical generalizations of two classical norms on Besov spaces are shown to be equivalent even in the case of non-linear Besov spaces, that is, function spaces consisting of functions taking values in a metric space and equipped with some Besov-type topology. The proofs are based on atomic decomposition techniques and metric embeddings. Additionally, we provide embedding results showing how non-linear Besov spaces embed into non-linear $p$-variation spaces and vice versa. We emphasize that we neither assume the UMD property of the involved spaces nor their separability.

Existence and uniqueness results for time-inhomogeneous time-change equations and Fokker--Planck equations

We prove existence and uniqueness of solutions to Fokker--Planck equations associated to Markov operators multiplicatively perturbed by degenerate time-inhomogeneous coefficients. Precise conditions on the time-inhomogeneous coefficients are given. In particular, we do not necessarily require the coefficients to be neither globally bounded nor bounded away from zero. The approach is based on constructing random time-changes and studying related martingale problems for Markov processes with values in locally compact, complete and separable metric spaces.

On Skorokhod Embeddings and Poisson Equations

The classical Skorokhod embedding problem for a Brownian motion $W$ asks to find a stopping time $τ$ so that $W_τ$ is distributed according to a prescribed probability distribution $μ$. Many solutions have been proposed during the past 50 years and applications in different fields emerged. This article deals with a generalized Skorokhod embedding problem (SEP): Let $X$ be a Markov process with initial marginal distribution $μ_0$ and let $μ_1$ be a probability measure. The task is to find a stopping time $τ$ such that $X_τ$ is distributed according to $μ_1$. More precisely, we study the question of deciding if a finite mean solution to the SEP can exist for given $μ_0, μ_1$ and the task of giving a solution which is as explicit as possible. If $μ_0$ and $μ_1$ have positive densities $h_0$ and $h_1$ and the generator $\mathcal A$ of $X$ has a formal adjoint operator $\mathcal A^*$, then we propose necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an embedding in terms of the Poisson equation $\mathcal A^* H=h_1-h_0$ and give a fairly explicit construction of the stopping time using the solution of the Poisson equation. For the class of Lévy processes we carry out the procedure and extend a result of Bertoin and Le Jan to Lévy processes without local times.
