The braided monoidal structure of tube algebra representations

We consider the tube algebra of a spherical semisimple multitensor category $\mathcal{X}$, and construct a braided monoidal structure with twist for its representations. We further show that this category is braided tensor equivalent with the Drinfeld center of the ind-category of $\mathcal{X}$, extending the well-known linear equivalence.

Pivotal Brauer-Picard groupoids and graded extensions

We develop pivotal and spherical versions of graded extension theory. We define the corresponding analogues of Brauer-Picard $2$-categorical groups and realize them as fixed points of natural $\mathbb{Z}$ and $\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z}$ $2$-categorical actions. We classify graded extensions of a pivotal tensor category by monoidal $2$-functors into the pivotal Brauer-Picard $2$-categorical group. A similar statement is proven for spherical (unimodular) tensor categories. We also develop an obstruction theory for determining when pivotal and spherical structures can be extended.

On the finite generation of the cohomology of bosonizations

We use deformation sequences of (Hopf) algebras, extending the results of Negron and Pevtsova, to show that bosonizations of some suitable braided Hopf algebras by some suitable finite-dimensional Hopf algebras have finitely generated cohomology. In fact, our results are shown in more generality for smash products. As applications, we prove the bosonizations of some Nichols algebras (such as Nichols algebras of diagonal type, the restricted Jordan plane, Nichols algebras of direct sums of Jordan blocks plus points labeled with 1), by some suitable finite-dimensional Hopf algebras, have finitely generated cohomology, recovering some known results as well as providing new examples.

On the structure of DHR bimodules of abstract spin chains

Abstract spin chains axiomatize the structure of local observables on the 1D lattice which are invariant under a global symmetry, and arise at the physical boundary of 2+1D topologically ordered spin systems. In this paper, we study tensor categorical properties of DHR bimodules over abstract spin chains. Assuming that the charge transporters generate the algebra of observables, we prove that the associated category has a structure of modular tensor category with respect to the natural braiding. Under an additional assumption of algebraic Haag duality, this category becomes the Drinfeld center of the half-line fusion category.

$\otimes$-Frobenius functors and exact module categories

We call a tensor functor $F:\mathcal{C}\to\mathcal{D}$ between finite tensor categories $\otimes$-Frobenius if its left and right adjoints are isomorphic as $\mathcal{C}$-bimodule functors. We give several characterizations of this notion -- most notably, $F$ is $\otimes$-Frobenius if and only if the centralizer $Z({}_{F}\!{\mathcal{D}}_{\!F})$ is unimodular. We use them to analyze how actions on module categories behave under pullback along $F$. For perfect functors, we show that twisting a $\mathcal{D}$-module category $\mathcal{M}$ along $F$ preserves exactness, and that pivotality, unimodularity, and sphericality are preserved whenever $F$ is $\otimes$-Frobenius (or, more generally, Frobenius with respect to $\mathcal{M}$). Applications include: (i) explicit criteria for $\otimes$-Frobenius functors arising from bialgebra maps $f\!:\!H'\!\to\!H$ between finite-dimensional Hopf algebras; and (ii) criteria ensuring that objects of internal natural transformations are (symmetric) Frobenius algebras in $Z(\mathcal{C})$. Along the way we show that central tensor functors are Frobenius iff they are $\otimes$-Frobenius and that any tensor functor between separable fusion categories is $\otimes$-Frobenius, answering questions of Flake-Laugwitz-Posur.

A manifestly Morita-invariant construction of Turaev-Viro invariants

We present a state sum construction that assigns a scalar to a skeleton in a closed oriented three-dimensional manifold. The input datum is the pivotal bicategory $\mathbf{Mod}^{\mathrm{sph}}(\mathcal{A})$ of spherical module categories over a spherical fusion category $\mathcal{A}$. The interplay of algebraic structures in this pivotal bicategory with moves of skeleta ensures that our state sum is independent of the skeleton on the manifold. We show that the bicategorical invariant recovers the value of the standard Turaev-Viro invariant associated to $\mathcal{A}$, thereby proving the independence of the Turaev-Viro invariant under pivotal Morita equivalence without recurring to the Reshetikhin-Turaev construction. A key ingredient for the construction is the evaluation of graphs on the sphere with labels in $\mathbf{Mod}^{\mathrm{sph}}(\mathcal{A})$ that we develop in this article. A central tool are Nakayama-twisted traces on pivotal bimodule categories which we study beyond semisimplicity.

Spherical Morita contexts and relative Serre functors

The Morita context provided by an exact module category over a finite tensor category gives a two-object bicategory with duals. Right and left duals of objects in the module category are given by internal Homs and coHoms, respectively. We express the double duals in terms of relative Serre functors, which leads to a Radford isomorphism for module categories. There is a bicategorical version of the Radford $S^4$ theorem: on the bicategory of a Morita context, the relative Serre functors assemble into a pseudo-functor, and the Radford isomorphisms furnish a trivialization of the square of this pseudo-functor, i.e. of the fourth power of the duals. We also show that the Morita bicategories coming from pivotal exact module categories are pivotal as bicategories, leading to the notion of pivotal Morita equivalence. This equivalence of tensor categories amounts to the equivalence of their bicategories of pivotal module categories. Furthermore, we introduce the notion of a spherical module category; it ensures that all categories in the Morita context of a spherical module category are spherical. Our results are motivated by and have applications to topological field theory.

Equivariant Morita theory for graded tensor categories

We extend categorical Morita equivalence to finite tensor categories graded by a finite group $G$. We show that two such categories are graded Morita equivalent if and only if their equivariant Drinfeld centers are equivalent as braided $G$-crossed tensor categories.
