Gaussian curvature of minimal graphs in $M\times \mathbb{R}$

In this paper, we consider minimal graphs in the three-dimensional Riemannian manifold $M\times\mathbb{R}$. We mainly estimate the Gaussian curvature of such surfaces. We consider the minimal disks and minimal graphs bounded by two Jordan curves in parallel planes. The key to the proofs is the Weierstrass representation of those surfaces via $\wp-$harmonic mappings. We also prove some Schwarz lemma type results and some Heinz type results for harmonic mappings between geodesic disks in Riemannian surfaces.

Minimal surfaces and Schwarz lemma

We prove a sharp Schwarz type inequality for the Weierstrass- Enneper representation of the minimal surfaces. It states the following. If $F:\mathbf{D}\to Σ$ is a conformal harmonic parameterization of a minimal disk $Σ$, where $\mathbf{D}$ is the unit disk and $|Σ|=πR^2$, then $|F_x(z)|(1-|z|^2)\le R$. If for some $z$ the previous inequality is equality, then the surface is an affine disk, and $F$ is linear up to a Möbius transformation of the unit disk.

Schwarz-Pick lemma for harmonic maps which are conformal at a point

We obtain a sharp estimate on the norm of the differential of a harmonic map from the unit disc $\mathbb D$ in $\mathbb C$ into the unit ball $\mathbb B^n$ in $\mathbb R^n$, $n\ge 2$, at any point where the map is conformal. In dimension $n=2$, this generalizes the classical Schwarz-Pick lemma, and for $n\ge 3$ it gives the optimal Schwarz-Pick lemma for conformal minimal discs $\mathbb D\to \mathbb B^n$. This implies that conformal harmonic immersions $M \to \mathbb B^n$ from any hyperbolic conformal surface are distance-decreasing in the Poincar$\mathrm{é}$ metric on $M$ and the Cayley-Klein metric on the ball $\mathbb B^n$, and the extremal maps are precisely the conformal embeddings of the disc $\mathbb D$ onto affine discs in $\mathbb B^n$. By using these results, we lay the foundations of the hyperbolicity theory for domains in $\mathbb R^n$ based on minimal surfaces.

Curvature of minimal graphs

We consider the Gaussian curvature conjecture of a minimal graph $S$ over the unit disk. First of all we reduce the general conjecture to the estimating the Gaussian curvature of some Scherk's type minimal surfaces over a quadrilateral inscribed in the unit disk containing the origin inside. As an application we improve so far the obtained upper estimates of Gaussian curvature at the point above the center. Further we obtain an optimal estimate of the Gaussian curvature at the point $\mathbf{w}$ over the center of the disk, provided $\mathbf{w}$ satisfies certain "symmetric" conditions. The result extends a classical result of Finn and Osserman in 1964. In order to do so, we construct a certain family $S^t$, $t\in[t_\circ, π/2]$ of Scherk's type minimal graphs over the isosceles trapezoid inscribed in the unit disk. Then we compare the Gaussian curvature of the graph $S$ with that of $S^t$ at the point $\mathbf{w}$ over the center of the disk.

Zero-curvature point of minimal graphs

Motivated by a classical result of Finn and Osserman (1964), who proved that the Scherk surface over the square inscribed in the unit disk is extremal for the Gaussian curvature of the point $O$ (so-called \emph{centre}) of the minimal graphs above the center $0$ of unit unit disk, provided the tangent plane is horizontal, we ask and answer to the question concerned the extremal of "second derivative" of the Gaussian curvature of such graphs provided that its curvature at $O$ is zero. We prove that the extremals are certain Scherk type minimal surfaces over the regular hexagon inscribed in the unit disk, provided that the Gaussian curvature vanishes and the tangent plane is horizontal at the centre.

Lipschitz regularity of energy-minimal mappings between doubly connected Riemann surfaces

Let $M$ and $N$ be doubly connected Riemann surfaces with $\mathscr{C}^{1,α}$ boundaries and with nonvanishing conformal metrics $σ$ and $\wp$ respectively, and assume that $\wp$ is a smooth metric with bounded Gauss curvature $\mathcal{K}$ and finite area. Assume that ${\Ho}_ρ(M, N)$ is the class of all $\mathscr{W}^{1,2}$ bomeomorphisms between $M$ and $N$ and assume that $\mathcal{E}^\wp: \overline{\Ho}_ρ(M, N)\to \mathbf{R}$ is the Dirichlet-energy functional, where $\overline{\Ho}_ρ(M, N)$ is the closure of ${\Ho}_ρ(M, N)$ in $\mathscr{W}^{1,2}(M,N)$. By using a result of Iwaniec, Kovalev and Onninen in \cite{duke} that the minimizer, is locally Lipschitz, we prove that the minimizer, of the energy functional $\mathcal{E}^\wp$, which is not a diffeomorphism in general, is a globally Lipschitz mapping of $M$ onto $N$.

Quasiconformal harmonic mappings between two doubly connected domains in the plane

It is known for some time that there exists an energy-minimal diffeomorphism between two doubly-connected domains $Ω$ and $D$ provided that $\mathrm{Mod}(Ω)\le \mathrm{Mod}{D}$ and that diffeomorphism is harmonic \cite{tedi}. In this note we give a short proof of the fact that for given annuli $Ω$ and $D$ satisfying the condition $\mathrm{Mod}(Ω)\le \mathrm{Mod}(D)$ there exist a $K-$quasiconformal harmonic diffeomorphism $f:Ω\onto D$, where $K=K(τ)$, $τ=\mathrm{Mod}(Ω)/ \mathrm{Mod}(D)$ and $\lim_{τ\to 1}K(τ)=1$.

QCH mappings between unit ball and domain with $C^{1,α}$ boundary

We prove the following. If $f$ is a harmonic quasiconformal mapping between the unit ball in $\mathbb{R}^n$ and a spatial domain with $C^{1,α}$ boundary, then $f$ is Lipschitz continuous in $B$. This generalizes some known results for $n=2$ and improves some others in higher dimensional case.

Kellogg's theorem for diffeomophic minimisers of Dirichlet energy between doubly connected Riemann surfaces

We extend the celebrated theorem of Kellogg for conformal diffeomorphisms to the minimizers of Dirichlet energy. Namely we prove that a diffeomorphic minimiser of Dirichlet energy of Sobolev mappings between doubly connected Riemanian surfaces $(\X,σ)$ and $(\Y,ρ)$ having $\mathscr{C}^{n,α}$ boundary, $0<α<1$, is $\mathscr{C}^{n,α}$ up to the boundary, provided the metric $ρ$ is smooth enough. Here $n$ is a positive integer. It is crucial that, every diffeomorphic minimizer of Dirichlet energy is a harmonic mapping with a very special Hopf differential and this fact is used in the proof. This improves and extends a recent result by the author and Lamel in \cite{kalam}, where the authors proved a similar result for double-connected domains in the complex plane but for $α'$ which is $\le α$ and $ρ\equiv 1$. This is a complementary result of an existence result proved by T. Iwaniec et al. in \cite{iwa} and the author in \cite{kal0}

Dirichlet-type energy of mappings between two concentric annuli

Let $\mathbb{A}$ and $\mathbb{A_{*}}$ be two non-degenerate spherical annuli in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ equipped with the Euclidean metric and the weighted metric $|y|^{1-n}$, respectively. Let $\mathcal{F}(\mathbb{A},\mathbb{A_{*}})$ denote the class of homeomorphisms in $\mathcal{W}^{1,n-1}(\mathbb{A},\mathbb{A_{*}})$. For $n=3$, the second author \cite{kalaj2018} proved that the minimizers of the Dirichlet-type energy $\mathcal{E}[h]=\int_{\mathbb{A}} \frac{\|Dh(x)\|^{n-1}}{|h(x)|^{n-1}}dx$ are certain generalized radial diffeomorphisms, where $h\in \mathcal{F}(\mathbb{A},\mathbb{A_{*}})$. For the case $n\geq 4$, he conjectured that the minimizers are also certain generalized radial diffeomorphisms between $\mathbb{A}$ and $\mathbb{A_{*}}$. The main aim of this paper is to consider this conjecture. First, we investigate the minimality of the following combined energy integral: $$ \mathbb{E}[a,b][h] =\int_{\mathbb{A}}\frac{a^{2}ρ^{n-1}(x)\|DS(x)\|^{n-1}+b^{2}|\nabla ρ(x)|^{n-1}}{|ρ(x)|^{n-1}}dx, $$ where $h=ρS\in \mathcal{F}(\mathbb{A},\mathbb{A_{*}})$, $ρ=|h|$ and $a,b>0$. The obtained result is a generalization of \cite[Theorem 1.1]{kalaj2018}. As an application, we show that the above conjecture is almost true for the case $n\geq 4$, i.e., the minimizer of the energy integral $\mathcal{E}[h]$ does not exist but there exists a minimizing sequence which belongs to the generalized radial mappings.

Khavinson problem for hyperbolic harmonic mappings in Hardy space

\begin{abstract} In this paper, we partly solve the generalized Khavinson conjecture in the setting of hyperbolic harmonic mappings in Hardy space. Assume that $u=\mathcal{P}_Ω[ϕ]$ and $ϕ\in L^{p}(\partialΩ, \mathbb{R})$, where $p\in[1,\infty]$, $\mathcal{P}_Ω[ϕ]$ denotes the Poisson integral of $ϕ$ with respect to the hyperbolic Laplacian operator $Δ_{h}$ in $Ω$, and $Ω$ denotes the unit ball $\mathbb{B}^{n}$ or the half-space $\mathbb{H}^{n}$. For any $x\in Ω$ and $l\in \mathbb{S}^{n-1}$, let $\mathbf{C}_{Ω,q}(x)$ and $\mathbf{C}_{Ω,q}(x;l)$ denote the optimal numbers for the gradient estimate $$ |\nabla u(x)|\leq \mathbf{C}_{Ω,q}(x)\|ϕ\|_{ L^{p}(\partialΩ, \mathbb{R})} $$ and gradient estimate in the direction $l$ $$|\langle\nabla u(x),l\rangle|\leq \mathbf{C}_{Ω,q}(x;l)\|ϕ\|_{ L^{p}(\partialΩ, \mathbb{R})}, $$ respectively. Here $q$ is the conjugate of $p$. If $q=\infty$ or $q\in[\frac{2K_{0}-1}{n-1}+1,\frac{2K_{0}}{n-1}+1]\cap [1,\infty)$ with $K_{0}\in\mathbb{N}=\{0,1,2,\ldots\}$, then $\mathbf{C}_{\mathbb{B}^{n},q}(x)=\mathbf{C}_{\mathbb{B}^{n},q}(x;\pm\frac{x}{|x|})$ for any $x\in\mathbb{B}^{n}\backslash\{0\}$, and $\mathbf{C}_{\mathbb{H}^{n},q}(x)=\mathbf{C}_{\mathbb{H}^{n},q}(x;\pm e_{n})$ for any $x\in \mathbb{H}^{n}$, where $e_{n}=(0,\ldots,0,1)\in\mathbb{S}^{n-1}$. However, if $q\in(1,\frac{n}{n-1})$, then $\mathbf{C}_{\mathbb{B}^{n},q}(x)=\mathbf{C}_{\mathbb{B}^{n},q}(x;t_{x})$ for any $x\in\mathbb{B}^{n}\backslash\{0\}$, and $\mathbf{C}_{\mathbb{H}^{n},q}(x)=\mathbf{C}_{\mathbb{H}^{n},q}(x;t_{e_{n}})$ for any $x\in \mathbb{H}^{n}$. Here $t_{w}$ denotes any unit vector in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ such that $\langle t_{w},w\rangle=0$ for $w\in \mathbb{R}^{n}\setminus\{0\}$. \end{abstract}

$L^p$-theory for Cauchy-transform on the unit disk

Let $\mathbb{D}$ be the unit disk and $φ\in L^p(\mathbb{D}, \mathrm{d}A)$, where $1\leq p\leq\infty$. For $z\in\mathbb{D}$, the Cauchy-transform on $\mathbb{D}$, denote by $\mathcal{P}$, is defined as follows: $$\mathcal{P}[φ](z)=-\int_{\mathbb{D}}\left(\frac{φ(w)}{w-z}+\frac{z\overline{φ(w)}}{1-\bar{w}z}\right)\mathrm{d}A(w).$$ The Beurling transform on $\mathbb{D}$, denote by $\mathcal{H}$, is now defined as the $z$-derivative of $\mathcal{P}$. In this paper, by using Hardy's type inequalities and Bessel functions, we show that $\|\mathcal{P}\|_{L^2\to L^2}=α\approx1.086$, where $α$ is a solution to the equation: $2J_0(2/α)-αJ_1(2/α)=0$, and $J_0$, $J_1$ are Bessel functions. Moreover, for $p>2$, by using Taylor expansion, Parseval's formula and hypergeometric functions, we also prove that $\|\mathcal{P}\|_{L^p\to L^{\infty}}=2(Γ(2-q)/Γ^2(2-\frac{q}{2}))^{1/q}$, where $q=p/(p-1)$ is the conjugate exponent of $p$, and $Γ$ is the Gamma function. Finally, applying the same techniques developed in this paper, we show that the Beurling transform $\mathcal{H}$ acts as an isometry of $L^2(\mathbb{D}, \mathrm{d}A)$.

Norm estimates of the Cauchy transform and related operators

Suppose $f\in L^p(\mathbb{D})$, where $p\geq1$ and $\mathbb{D}$ is the unit disk. Let $\mathfrak{J}_0$ be the integral operator defined as follows: $\mathfrak{J}_0[f](z)=\int_{\mathbb{D}}\frac{z}{1-\bar{w}z}f(w)\mathrm{d}A(w)$, where $z$, $w\in\mathbb{D}$ and $\mathrm{d}A(w)=\frac{1}π\mathrm{d}x\mathrm{d}y$ is the normalized area measure on $\mathbb{D}$. Suppose $\mathfrak{J}_0^*$ is the adjoint operator of $\mathfrak{J}_0$. Then $\mathfrak{J}^*_0=\mathfrak{B}\mathfrak{C}$, where $\mathfrak{B}$ and $\mathfrak{C}$ are the operators induced by the Bergman projection and Cauchy transform, respectively. In this paper, we obtain the $L^1$, $L^2$ and $L^{\infty}$ norm of the operator $\mathfrak{J}_0^*$. Moreover, we obtain the $L^p(\mathbb{D})\rightarrow L^\infty(\mathbb{D})$ norm of the operators $\mathfrak{C}$ and $\mathfrak{J}_0^*$, provided that $p>2$. This study is a continuation of the investigations carried out in [4] and [11].

On asymptotically sharp bi-Lipschitz inequalities of quasiconformal mappings satisfying inhomogeneous polyharmonic equations

Suppose that $f$ is a $K$-quasiconformal ($(K,K')$-quasiconformal resp.) self-mapping of the unit disk $\mathbb{D}$, which satisfies the following: $(1)$ the inhomogeneous polyharmonic equation $Δ^{n}f=Δ(Δ^{n-1} f)=φ_{n}$ $(φ_{n}\in \mathcal{C}(\overline{\mathbb{D}}))$, (2) the boundary conditions $Δ^{n-1}f|_{\mathbb{T}}=φ_{n-1},~\ldots,~Δ^{1}f|_{\mathbb{T}}=φ_{1}$ ($φ_{j}\in\mathcal{C}(\mathbb{T})$ for $j\in\{1,\ldots,n-1\}$ and $\mathbb{T}$ denotes the unit circle), and $(3)$ $f(0)=0$, where $n\geq2$ is an integer and $K\geq1$ ($K'\geq0$ resp.). The main aim of this paper is to prove that $f$ is Lipschitz continuous, and,further, it is bi-Lipschitz continuous when $\|φ_{j}\|_{\infty}$ are small enough for $j\in\{1,\ldots,n\}$. Moreover, the estimates are asymptotically sharp as $K\to 1$ ($K'\to0$ resp.) and $\|φ_{j}\|_{\infty}\to 0$ for $j\in\{1,\ldots,n\}$, and thus, such a mapping $f$ behaves almost like a rotation for sufficiently small $K$ ($K'$ resp.) and $\|φ_{j}\|_{\infty}$ for $j\in\{1,\ldots,n\}$.

Optimal estimates for hyperbolic harmonic mappings in Hardy space

Assume that $p\in(1,\infty]$ and $u=P_{h}[ϕ]$, where $ϕ\in L^{p}(\mathbb{S}^{n-1},\mathbb{R}^{n})$. Then for any $x\in \mathbb{B}^{n}$, we obtain the sharp inequalities $$ |u(x)|\leq \frac{\mathbf{C}_{q}^{\frac{1}{q}}(x)}{(1-|x|^2)^{\frac{n-1 }{p}}} \|ϕ\|_{L^{p}} \quad\text{and}\quad |u(x)|\leq \frac{\mathbf{C}_{q}^{\frac{1}{q}} }{(1-|x|^2)^{\frac{n-1 }{p}}} \|ϕ\|_{L^{p} } $$ for some function $\mathbf{C}_{q}(x)$ and constant $\mathbf{C}_{q}$ in terms of Gauss hypergeometric and Gamma functions, where $q$ is the conjugate of $p$. This result generalize and extend some known result from harmonic mapping theory ([5, Theorems 1.1 and 1.2] and [1, Proposition 6.16]).

Schwarz lemma for hyperbolic harmonic mappings in the unit ball

Assume that $p\in[1,\infty]$ and $u=P_{h}[ϕ]$, where $ϕ\in L^{p}(\mathbb{S}^{n-1},\mathbb{R}^n)$ and $u(0) = 0$. Then we obtain the sharp inequality $|u(x)|\le G_p(|x|)\|ϕ\|_{L^{p}}$ for some smooth function $G_p$ vanishing at $0$. Moreover, we obtain an explicit form of the sharp constant $C_p$ in the inequality $\|Du(0)\|\le C_p\|ϕ\|_{L^{p}}$. These two results generalize and extend some known result from harmonic mapping theory (\cite[Theorem 2.1]{kalaj2018}) and hyperbolic harmonic theory (\cite[Theorem 1]{bur}).

Minimisers and Kellogg's theorem

We extend the celebrated theorem of Kellogg for conformal mappings to the minimizers of Dirichlet energy. Namely we prove that a diffeomorphic minimiser of Dirichlet energy of Sobolev mappings between double connected domains $D$ and $Ω$ having $\mathscr{C}^{n,α}$ boundary is $\mathscr{C}^{n,α}$ up to the boundary, provided $\text{Mod}(D)\ge \text{Mod}(Ω)$. If $\text{Mod}(D)< \text{Mod}(Ω)$ and $n=1$ we obtain that the diffeomorphic minimiser has $\mathscr{C}^{1,α'}$ extension up to the boundary, for $α'=α/(2+α)$. It is crucial that, every diffeomorphic minimizer of Dirichlet energy has a very special Hopf differential and this fact is used to prove that every diffeomorphic minimizer of Dirichlet energy can be locally lifted to a certain minimal surface near an arbitrary point inside and at the boundary.

Sharp pointwics estimate for Fock spaces

Firstly we establish a sharp pointwise estimate for the arbitrary derivative of the function $f\in F_α^{p},$ where $F_α^{p}$ denotes the Fock space for $1\leq p<\infty.$ Then, in a particular Hilbert case when $p=2$ we establish another specific pointwise sharp estimate. We also consider the differential operator between $F_α^{p}$ and $F_β^{p}$ for $β>α$ and its adjoint.
