A Novel Proposal in Wind Turbine Blade Failure Detection: An Integrated Approach to Energy Efficiency and Sustainability

This paper presents a novel methodology for detecting faults in wind turbine blades using com-putational learning techniques. The study evaluates two models: the first employs logistic regression, which outperformed neural networks, decision trees, and the naive Bayes method, demonstrating its effectiveness in identifying fault-related patterns. The second model leverages clustering and achieves superior performance in terms of precision and data segmentation. The results indicate that clustering may better capture the underlying data characteristics compared to supervised methods. The proposed methodology offers a new approach to early fault detection in wind turbine blades, highlighting the potential of integrating different computational learning techniques to enhance system reliability. The use of accessible tools like Orange Data Mining underscores the practical application of these advanced solutions within the wind energy sector. Future work will focus on combining these methods to improve detection accuracy further and extend the application of these techniques to other critical components in energy infrastructure.

Worldwide Scientific Landscape on Fires in Photovoltaic

The rapid growth of photovoltaic (PV) technology in recent years called for a comprehensive assessment of the global scientific landscape on fires associated with PV energy installations. This study examines the scientific literature indexed in Scopus from 1983 to 2023. It reveals a striking increase in output since 2011, with nearly one hundred publications in the most recent year under review. This growth of interest has occurred in parallel with the global expansion of photovoltaics. The majority of studies in this field are classified as engineering, with 34% of publications in this area. The USA leads the way with over 160 publications, followed by China with 125. Two institutions in the USA are particularly prominent in this field: Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico with 22 publications, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Colorado with 16 publications. The second institution is the University of Science and Technology of China, which has published 17 articles on the subject. A close examination of the evolution of keywords reveals a remarkable transformation in the scientific landscape over the past 10 years, from 2013 to 2023. The evolution of keywords suggests a maturation in the understanding of fire risks associated with photovoltaic energy. A total of seven scientific communities have been identified in which these works are grouped according to their keywords. These include Fire and Energy Storage, PV faults, Fire resistance, Fire hazard, Fire detectors, Deep learning, and Fire safety. It has been found that fires caused by PV installations are not listed as a cause of fire starts. This should be taken into account when conducting preventive analyses of this potential danger, particularly in light of the possible development of agrivoltaics, where facilities will be mainly located in the natural environment.

Renewable Energies in the Agricultural Sector: A Perspective Analysis of the Last Three Years

Over the last three years, research on the application of renewable energies in the agricultural sector has grown significantly. In this study, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of global scientific production from 2019 to 2021 to identify trends, leading contributors, and emerging research areas. Based on 1378 documents retrieved from Scopus, we observed a clear upward trend in publications, with a peak in 2021. India, China, the United States, Italy, and the United Kingdom were the most productive countries, while key institutions from China, Iran, and the Netherlands led the research output. Our results reveal five major thematic clusters: renewable energy technologies in agriculture, bioenergy, sustainable agriculture, biomass energy, and the environmental impact of agricultural activities. Notable advances include agrovoltaic systems, the use of agricultural and livestock waste for biogas production, and the development of agricultural robots powered by renewable energy sources. Additionally, there is increasing interest in examining the links among agriculture, renewable energy use, and greenhouse gas emissions, aligned with global sustainability goals. This analysis highlights the evolution of the field, international collaboration patterns, and the most influential research lines, offering valuable insights to guide future scientific developments in integrating renewable energies within the agricultural sector.
