Effect of topology on quasi-particle interactions in the Weyl semimetal WP$_2$

We compare two crystallographic phases of the low-dimensional WP$_2$ to better understand features of electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions in topological systems. The topological $β$-phase, a Weyl semimetal with a giant magneto-resistance, shows a larger intensity of electronic Raman scattering compared to the topologically trivial $α$-phase. This intensity sharply drops for $T < T^* = 20$ K which evidences a crossover in the topological phase from marginal quasiparticles to a coherent low temperature regime. In contrast, the non-topological $α$-phase shows more pronounced signatures of electron-phonon interaction. Here there exist generally enlarged phonon linewidths and deviations from conventional anharmonicity in an intermediate temperature regime. These effects provide evidence for an interesting interplay of electronic correlations and electron-phonon coupling. Both interband and intraband electronic fluctuations are involved in these effects. Their dependence on symmetry as well as momentum conservation are critical ingredients to understand this interplay.

Tunneling Current Measurement Scheme to Detect Majorana Zero Mode Induced Crossed Andreev Reflection

We propose a scheme to detect the Majorana-zero-mode-induced crossed Andreev reflection by measuring tunneling current directly. In this scheme a metallic ring structure is utilized to separate electron and hole signals. Since tunneling electrons and holes have different propagating wave vectors, the conditions for them to be constructively coherent in the ring differ. We find that when the magnetic flux threading the ring varies, it is possible to observe adjacent positive and negative current peaks of almost equal amplitudes.

Eigenvalues and Eigenfunctions of Two Coupled Normal Metal Nano-rings

A general scheme is developed to deal with 1D lattice systems that could be topologically complicated. It is aimed to give a complete study of two coupled normal metal rings. Our method starts with an investigation of the local expressions of the eigenfunctions. By connecting different parts of the system, all the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions can be obtained. It is found that there is a possibility for the existence of localized states, which is beyond previous expectations.

A microscopic model for detecting the surface states photoelectrons in Topological Insulators

We present a model for the photoelectrons emitted from the surface of a Topological insulator induced by a polarized laser source. The model is based on the tunneling of the surface electrons into the vacuum in the presence of a photon field. Using the Hamiltonian which describes the coupling of the photons to the surface electrons we compute the intensity and polarization of the photoelectrons.

Rectified voltage induced by a microwave field in a confined two-dimensional electron gas with a mesoscopic static vortex

We investigate the effect of a microwave field on a confined two dimensional electron gas which contains an insulating region comparable to the Fermi wavelength. The insulating region causes the electron wave function to vanish in that region. We describe the insulating region as a static vortex. The vortex carries a flux which is determined by vanishing of the charge density of the electronic fluid due to the insulating region. The sign of the vorticity for a hole is opposite to the vorticity for adding additional electrons. The vorticity gives rise to non-commuting kinetic momenta. The two dimensional electron gas is described as fluid with a density which obeys the Fermi-Dirac statistics. The presence of the confinement potential gives rise to vanishing kinetic momenta in the vicinity of the classical turning points. As a result, the Cartesian coordinate do not commute and gives rise to a Hall current which in the presence of a modified Fermi-Surface caused by the microwave field results in a rectified voltage. Using a Bosonized formulation of the two dimensional gas in the presence of insulating regions allows us to compute the rectified current. The proposed theory may explain the experimental results recently reported by J. Zhang et al.
