A parameterized block LU preconditioning for double saddle point problems

We present a biparametric preconditioning technique for large, sparse, non-symmetric, and non-singular double saddle point problems. The preconditioner is induced using a stationary iteration method. It is also based on a two-parameterized block LU factorization of the coefficient matrix. To begin with, some convergence results of the iteration method are derived. Moreover, the spectral features exhibited by the preconditioned matrix are given. Finally, the presented preconditioner is conjuncted with the GMRES method. Numerical results demonstrate the satisfactory performance of the preconditioner.

Positive semidefinite and positive semidefinite splitting iteration methods for solving nonsingular positive semidefinite systems

This article introduces an iterative method for solving nonsingular positive semidefinite systems of linear equations. To construct the iteration process, the coefficient matrix is split into two positive semidefinite matrices along with an arbitrary Hermitian positive definite shift matrix. Several conditions are established to guarantee the convergence of method and suggestions are provided for selecting the matrices involved in the desired splitting. We explore selection process of the shift matrix and determine the optimal parameter in a specific scenario. The proposed method aims to generalize previous approaches and improve the conditions for convergence theorems. In addition, we examine two special cases of this method and compare the induced preconditioners with some state-of-art preconditioners. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate effectiveness of the presented preconditioners.

A variant of the block preconditioner for indefinite complex symmetric linear systems

In this paper, we propose an efficient preconditioner for solving indefinite complex symmetric linear systems within a block preconditioning framework. We analyze the convergence of the corresponding iterative method and investigate several spectral properties of the preconditioned matrix, including eigenvalue distributions and eigenvector structures. The new preconditioner is used to accelerate the convergence of the flexible version of GMRES. Numerical experiments are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed preconditioner, and comparisons with existing block preconditioners demonstrate its superior performance.

A block preconditioner with two parameters for double saddle point systems in liquid crystal director modeling

This paper introduces a novel block preconditioner for a class of double saddle point systems arising from the finite element discretization of liquid crystal director modeling. We first establish sufficient conditions to guarantee the convergence of the underlying iterative scheme. A spectral analysis of the preconditioned matrix is then performed, leading to an effective strategy for parameter selection. The new preconditioner is used to accelerate the convergence of the flexible version of GMRES. Experimental results confirm the strong performance of the method.

Inexact versions of several block-splitting preconditioners for indefinite least squares problems

This paper introduces inexact versions of several block-splitting preconditioners for solving the three-by-three block linear systems arising from a special class of indefinite least squares problems. We first establish the convergence conditions for the corresponding stationary iterative methods. Then, it follows that under these conditions, all eigenvalues of the preconditioned matrices are contained within a circle centered at $(1,0)$ with radius $1$. This property implies that these preconditioners are effective in accelerating the convergence of the GMRES method. Furthermore, we analyze the eigenpairs of the preconditioned matrices in detail and derive a theoretical upper bound on the number of GMRES iterations for solving the preconditioned systems. Ultimately, numerical experiments reveal the efficacy of the proposed preconditioners.

A parameterized block-splitting preconditioner for indefinite least squares problem

We present a stationary iteration based upon a block splitting for a class of indefinite least squares problem. Convergence of the proposed method is investigated and optimal value of the involving parameter is used. The induced preconditioner is applied to accelerate the convergence of the GMRES method for solving the problem. We also analysed the eigenpair distribution of the preconditioned matrix. {We assess the efficiency of the proposed preconditioner by presenting results from a numerical comparison with several existing preconditioners.

A new block alternating splitting iteration method for solving a class of two-by-two block complex linear systems

A block alternating splitting iteration (BASI) method is presented for solving the system arising from the finite element discretization of the distributed optimal control problem with time-periodic parabolic equations. We prove that the BASI method is unconditionally convergent. We derive the BASI preconditioner and present an estimation formula for the parameter of the BASI preconditioner. Numerical results are presented to verify the efficiency of both the BASI method and the BASI preconditioner. Comparison with some existing methods are also given.

Semi-convergence of the APSS method for a class of nonsymmetric three-by-three singular saddle point problems

For nonsymmetric block three-by-three singular saddle point problems arising from the Picard iteration method for a class of mixed finite element scheme, recently Salkuyeh et al. in (D.K. Salkuyeh, H. Aslani, Z.Z. Liang, An alternating positive semi-definite splitting preconditioner for the three-by-three block saddle point problems, Math. Commun. 26 (2021) 177-195) established an alternating positive semi-definite splitting (APSS) method. In this work, we analyse the semi-convergence of the APSS method for solving a class of nonsymmetric block three-by-three singular saddle point problems. The APSS induced preconditioner is applied to improve the semi-convergence rate of the flexible GMRES (FGMRES) method. Experimental results are designated to support the theoretical results. These results show that the served preconditioner is efficient compared with FGMRES without a preconditioner.

Based on an iterative method, we construct a block upper triangular preconditioner. The convergence of the presented method is studied in details. Finally, some numerical experiments are given to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed preconditioner over some existing ones.

Robust iteration methods for complex systems with an indefinite matrix term

Complex valued systems with an indefinite matrix term arise in important applications such as for certain time-harmonic partial differential equations such as the Maxwell's equation and for the Helmholtz equation. Complex systems with symmetric positive definite matrices can be solved readily by rewriting the complex matrix system in two-by-two block matrix form with real matrices which can be efficiently solved by iteration using the preconditioned square block (PRESB) preconditioning method and preferably accelerated by the Chebyshev method. The appearances of an indefinite matrix term causes however some difficulties. To handle this we propose different forms of matrix splitting methods, with or without any parameters involved. A matrix spectral analyses is presented followed by extensive numerical comparisons of various forms of the methods.

We study the performance of a new block preconditioner for a class of $3\times3$ block saddle point problems which arise from finite element methods for solving time-dependent Maxwell equations and some other practical problems. We also estimate the lower and upper bounds of eigenvalues of the preconditioned matrix. \cred{Finally, we examine our new preconditioner to accelerate the convergence speed of the GMRES method which shows the effectiveness of the preconditioner.

A new iterative method for solving a class of two-by-two block complex linear systems

We present a stationary iteration method, namely Alternating Symmetric positive definite and Scaled symmetric positive semidefinite Splitting (ASSS), for solving the system of linear equations obtained by using finite element discretization of a distributed optimal control problem together with time-periodic parabolic equations. An upper bound for the spectral radius of the iteration method is given which is always less than 1. So convergence of the ASSS iteration method is guaranteed. The induced ASSS preconditioner is applied to accelerate the convergence speed of the GMRES method for solving the system. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of both the ASSS iteration method and the ASSS preconditioner.

More precisely, we analyze the eigenvalue distribution of the preconditioned matrix. Numerical experiments are reported to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed preconditioner.

A shift-splitting preconditioner for asymmetric saddle point problems

In this paper, we execute the shift-splitting preconditioner for asymmetric saddle point problems with its (1,2) block's transposition unequal to its (2,1) block under the removed minus of its (2,1) block. The proposed preconditioner is stemmed from the shift splitting (SS) iteration method for solving asymmetric saddle point problems, which is convergent under suitable conditions. The relaxed version of the shift-splitting preconditioner is obtained as well. The spectral distributions of the related preconditioned matrices are given. Numerical experiments from the Stokes problem are offered to show the convergence performance of these two preconditioners.

Two-parameter TSCSP method for solving complex symmetric system of linear equations

We introduce a two-parameter version of the two-step scale-splitting iteration method, called TTSCSP, for solving a broad class of complex symmetric system of linear equations. We present some conditions for the convergence of the method. An upper bound for the spectral radius of the method is presented and optimal parameters which minimize this bound are given. Inexact version of the TTSCSP iteration method (ITTSCSP) is also presented. Some numerical experiments are reported to verify the effectiveness of the TTSCSP iteration method and the numerical results are compared with those of the TSCSP, the SCSP and the PMHSS iteration methods. Numerical comparison of the ITTSCSP method with the inexact version of TSCSP, SCSP and PMHSS are presented. We also compare the numerical results of the BiCGSTAB method in conjunction with the TTSCSP and the ILU preconditioners.

Two-step scale-splitting method for solving complex symmetric system of linear equations

Based on the Scale-Splitting (SCSP) iteration method presented by Hezari et al. in (A new iterative method for solving a class of complex symmetric system linear of equations, Numerical Algorithms 73 (2016) 927-955), we present a new two-step iteration method, called TSCSP, for solving the complex symmetric system of linear equations $(W+iT)x=b$, where $W$ and $T$ are symmetric positive definite and symmetric positive semidefinite matrices, respectively. It is shown that if the matrices $W$ and $T$ are symmetric positive definite, then the method is unconditionally convergent. The optimal value of the parameter, which minimizes the spectral radius of the iteration matrix is also computed. Numerical {comparisons} of the TSCSP iteration method with the SCSP, the MHSS, the PMHSS and the GSOR methods are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the method.
