Standardized Cumulants of Flow Harmonic Fluctuations

The distribution of flow harmonics in heavy ion experiment can be characterized by standardized cumulants. We first model the ellipticity and power parameters of the elliptic-power distribution by employing MC-Glauber model. Then we use the elliptic-power distribution together with the hydrodynamic linear response approximation to study the two dimensional standardized cumulants of elliptic and triangular flow ($v_2$ and $v_3$) distribution. For the second harmonic, it turns out that finding two dimensional cumulants in terms of $2q$-particle correlation functions $c_2\{2q\}$ is limited to the skewness. We also show that $c_3\{2\}$, $c_3\{4\}$, and $c_3\{6\}$, are related to the second, fourth, and sixth standardized cumulants of the $v_3$ distribution, respectively. The cumulant $c_{n}\{2q\}$ can be also written in terms of $v_n\{2q\}$. Specifically, $-(v_3\{4\}/v_3\{2\})^4$ turns out to be the kurtosis of the $v_3$ event-by-event fluctuation distribution. We introduce a new parametrization for the distribution $p(v_3)$ with $v_3\{2\}$, kurtosis and sixth-order standardized cumulant being its free parameters. Compared to the Gaussian distribution, it indicates a more accurate fit with experimental results. Finally, we compare the kurtosis obtained from simulation with that of extracted from experimental data for the $v_3$ distribution.

Collective Excitations in Hot QCD Plasma

We study the long wavelength excitations in rotating QCD fluid in presence of an external magnetic field at finite vector and axial charge densities. We consider the fluctuations of vector and axial charge currents coupled to energy and momentum fluctuations and compute the $SO(3)$ covariant dispersion relations of the six corresponding hydrodynamic modes. Among them, there are always two scalar Chiral Magnetic-Vortical-Heat (CMVH) waves; In the absence of magnetic field (vorticity) these waves reduce to CVH (CMH) waves. While CMVH waves are the mixed of CMH and CVH waves, they have generally different velocities compared to the sum of velocities of the latter waves. The other four modes, which are made out of scalar-vector fluctuations, are mixed Sound-Alfvén waves. We show that in the direction parallel to both magnetic field and vorticity, these four modes are the two ordinary sound modes together with two Chiral Alfvén waves (CAW).

From Schwinger Balls to Curved Space

It is shown that the Reissner-Nordstrom black hole is also a gravitational Schwinger ball. It is also shown that both massless and massive-particle gravitational Schwinger balls are thermodynamic systems by deriving the first law of thermodynamics for them. Inconsistency between classical geometrical and microscopic definitions of the horizon is discussed. We propose a new metric, more consistent with microscopic picture of black hole, as gravitational Schwinger ball, by speculations. It has some interesting features.

Black Holes Evaporate Non-Thermally

It is shown that the Hawking radiation and staying at the Schwarzschild state are not consistent for black holes as graviton balls. The only exception is the eternal black hole.

From Schwinger Balls to Black Holes

We have shown intriguing similarities between Schwinger balls and black holes. By considering black hole as a gravitational Schwinger ball, we have derived the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and the first law of black hole thermodynamics as a direct result of the inverse area dependence of the gravitational force. It is also shown that the Planck length is nothing but the gravitational Schwinger length. The relation between the mass and the radius of the black hole is derived by considering the black hole as a Schwinger ball of gravitons. We show how the evolution of the entanglement entropy of the black hole, as Page introduced many years ago, can be obtained by including gravitons in the black hole's evaporation process and using a deformed EPR mechanism. Also this deformed EPR mechanism can solve the information paradox. We show how naive simultaneous usage of Page's argument and equivalence principle leads to firewall problem.

Evaporation/Hadronization Correspondence

A holographic duality is proposed between black hole evaporation in the bulk and hadronization (confinement) in dual field theory. Information paradox is discussed in this duality. We also propose that the recently introduced semi black brane solution is holographically dual to a mixed plasma of quarks, gluons and hadrons in global equilibrium.

Do Horizons Exist?

Gravitational effective action is calculated to second order in transverse momentums for a planar asymptotically anti-de Sitter geometry by gauge fixing method. The first order bulk energy-momentum tensor is calculated. The zeroth order equations of motion are solved and a new black brane-like solution is found. We show that once the contribution of matter quantum modes is taken into account, the horizon of the black brane disappears. This is also correct for BTZ black hole. Our result strengthens the black hole non-existence proposal by Hawking.

Gravitational Effective Action: A New Method

A new method is introduced for doing calculations of quantum field theories in planar geometries which the metric depends on just one coordinate. In contrast to previous method, this method can be used in any planar geometry, not only weakly curved asymptotically flat ones.

Meson Life Time in the Anisotropic Quark-Gluon Plasma

In the hot (an)isotropic plasma the meson life time $τ$ is defined as a time scale after which the meson dissociates. According to the gauge/gravity duality, this time can be identified with the inverse of the imaginary part of the frequency of the quasinormal modes, $ω_I$, in the (an)isotropic black hole background. In the high temperature limit, we numerically show that at fixed temperature(entropy density) the life time of the mesons decreases(increases) as the anisotropy parameter raises. For general case, at fixed temperature we introduce a polynomial function for $ω_I$ and observe that the meson life time decreases. Moreover, we realize that $(s/T^3)^6$, where $s$ and $T$ are entropy density and temperature of the plasma respectively, can be expressed as a function of anisotropy parameter over temperature. Interestingly, this function is a Padé approximant.

Probing Fractionalized Charges

Inspired by holographic entanglement entropy, for geometries with non-zero abelian charges, we define a quantity which is sensitive to the background charges. One observes that there is a critical charge below that the system is mainly described by the metric and the effects of the background charges are just via metric's components. While for charges above the critical one the background gauge field plays an essential role. This, in turn, might be used to define an order parameter to probe phases of a system with fractionalized charges.

Entanglement Thermodynamics

We study entanglement entropy for an excited state by making use of the proposed holographic description of the entanglement entropy. For a sufficiently small entangling region and with reasonable identifications we find an equation between entanglement entropy and energy which is reminiscent of the first law of thermodynamics. We then suggest four statements which might be thought of as four laws of entanglement thermodynamics.

On Holography of Julia-Zee Dyon

The holographic dual of self gravitating Julia-Zee dyon is discussed. It is shown that the dual field theory is generally a field theory with a vortex condensate. The vacuum expectation values of the dual operators, as functions of the sources in the field theory, are studied in a class of bulk solutions. In these solutions the sign of the vacuum expectation values of the dual operators change, by changing the sources in the model.

Holographic Phase Transition to Topological Dyons

The dynamical stability of a Julia-Zee solution in the AdS background in a four dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory is studied. We find that the model with a vanishing scalar field develops a non-zero value for the field at a certain critical temperature which corresponds to a topological dyon in the bulk and a topological phase transition at the boundary.
