Conditional Lipschitz shadowing for ordinary differential equations

We introduce the notion of conditional Lipschitz shadowing, which does not aim to shadow every pseudo-orbit, but only those which belong to a certain prescribed set. We establish two types of sufficient conditions under which certain non\-auto\-nomous ordinary differential equations have such a property. The first criterion applies to a semilinear differential equation provided that its linear part is hyperbolic and the nonlinearity is small in a neighborhood of the prescribed set. The second criterion requires that the logarithmic norm of the derivative of the right-hand side with respect to the state variable is uniformly negative in a neighborhood of the prescribed set. The results are applicable to important classes of model equations including the logistic equation, whose conditional shadowing has recently been studied. Several examples are constructed showing that the obtained conditions are optimal.

Smooth linearization of nonautonomous dynamics under polynomial behaviour

The main purpose of this paper is to formulate new conditions for smooth linearization of nonautonomous systems with discrete and continuous time. Our results assume that the linear part admits a nonuniform polynomial dichotomy and that the associated polynomial dichotomy spectrum exhibits appropriate spectral gap and spectral band conditions. This is in sharp contrast to most of the previous results in the literature which assumed that the linear part admits an exponential dichotomy. Our techniques exploit the relationship between polynomial and exponential dichotomies via a suitable reparametrization of time.

Hyers-Ulam stability for hyperbolic random dynamics

We prove that small nonlinear perturbations of random linear dynamics admitting a tempered exponential dichotomy have a random version of the shadowing property. As a consequence, if the exponential dichotomy is uniform, we get that the random linear dynamics is Hyers-Ulam stable. Moreover, we apply our results to study the conservation of Lyapunov exponents of the random linear dynamics subjected to nonlinear perturbations.

On the spectral radius of compact operator cocycles

We extend the notions of joint and generalized spectral radii to cocycles acting on Banach spaces and obtain a version of Berger-Wang's formula when restricted to the space of cocycles taking values in the space of compact operators. Moreover, we observe that the previous quantities depends continuously on the underlying cocycle.

Quasi-shadowing for partially hyperbolic dynamics on Banach spaces

A partially hyperbolic dynamical system is said to have the quasi-shadowing property if every pseudotrajectory can be shadowed by a sequence of points $(x_n)_{n\in \Z}$ such that $x_{n+1}$ is obtained from the image of $x_n$ by moving it by a small factor in the central direction. In the present paper, we prove that a small nonlinear perturbation of a partially dichotomic sequence of (not necessarily invertible) linear operators acting on an arbitrary Banach space has the quasi-shadowing property. We also get obtain a continuous time version of this result. As an application of our main result, we prove that a certain class of partially dichotomic sequences of linear operators is stable up to the movement in the central direction.

Shadowing for infinite dimensional dynamics and exponential trichotomies

Let $(A_m)_{m\in \Z}$ be a sequence of bounded linear maps acting on an arbitrary Banach space $X$ and admitting an exponential trichotomy and let $f_m:X\to X$ be a Lispchitz map for every $m\in \Z$. We prove that whenever the Lipschitz constants of $f_m$, $m\in \Z$, are uniformly small, the nonautonomous dynamics given by $x_{m+1}=A_mx_m+f_m(x_m)$, $m\in \Z$, has various types of shadowing. Moreover, if $X$ is finite dimensional and each $A_m$ is invertible we prove that a converse result is also true. Furthermore, we get similar results for one-sided and continuous time dynamics. As applications of our results we study the Hyers-Ulam stability for certain difference equations and we obtain a very general version of the Grobman-Hartman's theorem for nonautonomous dynamics.

Admissibility and general dichotomies for evolution families

For an arbitrary noninvertible evolution family on the half-line and for $ρ\colon [0, \infty)\to [0, \infty)$ in a large class of rate functions, we consider the notion of a $ρ$-dichotomy with respect to a family of norms and characterize it in terms of two admissibility conditions. In particular, our results are applicable to exponential as well as polynomial dichotomies with respect to a family of norms. As a nontrivial application of our work, we establish the robustness of general nonuniform dichotomies.

Smooth Linearization of Nonautonomous Differential Equations with a Nonuniform Dichotomy

In this paper we give a smooth linearization theorem for nonautonomous differential equations with a nonuniform strong exponential dichotomy. In terms of discretized evolution operator with hyperbolic fixed point 0, we formulate its spectrum and then give a spectral bound condition for the linearization of such equations to be simultaneously differentiable at 0 and Hölder continuous near 0. Restricted in the autonomous case, our result is the first one that gives a rigorous proof for simultaneously differentiable and Hölder linearization of hyperbolic systems without any non-resonant conditions.

Smooth Linearization of Nonautonomous Difference Equations with a Nonuniform Dichotomy

In this paper we give a smooth linearization theorem for nonautonomous difference equations with a nonuniform strong exponential dichotomy. The linear part of such a nonautonomous difference equation is defined by a sequence of invertible linear operators on $\mathbb{R}^d$. Reducing the linear part to a bounded linear operator on a Banach space, we discuss the spectrum and its spectral gaps. Then we obtain a gap condition for $C^1$ linearization of such a nonautonomous difference equation. We finally extend the result to the infinite dimensional case. Our theorems improve known results even in the case of uniform strong exponential dichotomies.

Admissibility and polynomial dichotomies for evolution families

For an arbitrary evolution family, we consider the notion of a polynomial dichotomy with respect to a family of norms and characterize it in terms of the admissibility property, that is, the existence of a unique bounded solution for each bounded perturbation. In particular, by considering a family of Lyapunov norms, we recover the notion of a (strong) nonuniform polynomial dichotomy. As a nontrivial application of the characterization, we establish the robustness of the notion of a strong nonuniform polynomial dichotomy under sufficiently small linear perturbations.

Admissibility and nonuniform polynomial dichotomies

For a general one-sided nonautonomous dynamics defined by a sequence of linear operators, we consider the notion of a polynomial dichotomy with respect to a sequence of norms and we characterize it completely in terms of the admissibility of bounded solutions. As a nontrivial application, we establish the robustness of the notion of a nonuniform polynomial dichotomy.

Periodic approximation of exceptional Lyapunov exponents for semi-invertible operator cocycles

We prove that for semi-invertible and Hölder continuous linear cocycles $A$ acting on an arbitrary Banach space and defined over a base space that satisfies the Anosov Closing Property, all exceptional Lyapunov exponents of $A$ with respect to an ergodic invariant measure for base dynamics can be approximated with Lyapunov exponents of $A$ with respect to ergodic measures supported on periodic orbits. Our result is applicable to a wide class of infinite-dimensional dynamical systems.

Shadowing for nonautonomous dynamics

We prove that whenever a sequence of invertible and bounded operators $(A_m)_{m\in \mathbb{Z}}$ acting on a Banach space $X$ admits an exponential dichotomy and a sequence of differentiable maps $f_m \colon X\to X$, $m\in \mathbb{Z}$, has bounded and Hölder derivatives, the nonautonomous dynamics given by $x_{m+1}=A_mx_m+f_m(x_m)$, $m\in \mathbb{Z}$ has various shadowing properties. Hence, we extend recent results of Bernardes Jr. et al. in several directions. As a nontrivial application of our results, we give a new proof of the nonautonomous Grobman-Hartman theorem.

A version of the theorem of Johnson, Palmer and Sell for quasicompact cocycles

The well-known theorem of Johnson, Palmer and Sell asserts that the endpoints of the Sacker--Sell spectrum of a given cocycle of invertible matrices over a topological dynamical system $(M, f)$ are realized as Lyapunov exponents with respect to some ergodic invariant probability measure for $f$. In this note we establish the version of this result for quasicompact cocycles of operators acting on an arbitrary Banach space.

A spectral approach for quenched limit theorems for random expanding dynamical systems

We prove quenched versions of (i) a large deviations principle (LDP), (ii) a central limit theorem (CLT), and (iii) a local central limit theorem (LCLT) for non-autonomous dynamical systems. A key advance is the extension of the spectral method, commonly used in limit laws for deterministic maps, to the general random setting. We achieve this via multiplicative ergodic theory and the development of a general framework to control the regularity of Lyapunov exponents of \emph{twisted transfer operator cocycles} with respect to a twist parameter. While some versions of the LDP and CLT have previously been proved with other techniques, the local central limit theorem is, to our knowledge, a completely new result, and one that demonstrates the strength of our method. Applications include non-autonomous (piecewise) expanding maps, defined by random compositions of the form $T_{σ^{n-1}ω}\circ\cdots\circ T_{σω}\circ T_ω$. An important aspect of our results is that we only assume ergodicity and invertibility of the random driving $σ:Ω\toΩ$; in particular no expansivity or mixing properties are

Datko-Pazy conditions for nonuniform exponential stability

For linear cocycles over both maps and flows, we obtain Datko-Pazy type of conditions under which all Lyapunov exponents of a given cocycle are negative. Furthermore, by combining our results with the results on subadditive ergodic optimisation, we also present new criteria for uniform exponential stability of linear cocycles.

Admissibility and nonuniformly hyperbolic sets

We obtain a characterization of two classes of dynamics with nonuniformly hyperbolic behavior in terms of an admissibility property. Namely, we consider exponential dichotomies with respect to a sequence of norms and nonuniformly hyperbolic sets. We note that the approach to establishing exponential bounds along the stable and the unstable directions differs from the standard technique of substituting test sequences. Moreover, we obtain the bounds in a single step.
