Beyond Endoscopy via Poisson Summation for GL(2,K)

In the early 2000's, R. Langlands proposed a strategy called Beyond Endoscopy to attack the principle of functoriality, which is one of the central questions of present day mathematics. A first step was achieved by A. Altug who worked with the group $GL(2,\mathbb{Q})$ in a series of three papers. We generalize the first part of this result to a class of totally real number fields. In particular, we cancel the contribution of the trivial and special representations to the trace formula using an additive Poisson summation on the regular elliptic terms.

Structure of fine Selmer groups in abelian p-adic Lie extensions

This paper studies fine Selmer groups of elliptic curves in abelian $p$-adic Lie extensions. A class of elliptic curves are provided where both the Selmer group and the fine Selmer group are trivial in the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension. The fine Selmer groups of elliptic curves with complex multiplication are shown to be pseudonull over the trivializing extension in some new cases. Finally, a relationship between the structure of the fine Selmer group for some CM elliptic curves and the Generalized Greenberg's Conjecture is clarified.

Statistics for Iwasawa Invariants of elliptic curves, $\rm{II}$

We study the average behaviour of the Iwasawa invariants for Selmer groups of elliptic curves. These results lie at the intersection of arithmetic statistics and Iwasawa theory. We obtain unconditional lower bounds for the density of rational elliptic curves with prescribed Iwasawa invariants.

$λ$-invariant stability in families of modular Galois representations

Consider a family of modular forms of weight 2, all of whose residual $\pmod{p}$ Galois representations are isomorphic. It is well-known that their corresponding Iwasawa $λ$-invariants may vary. In this paper, we study this variation from a quantitative perspective, providing lower bounds on the frequency with which these $λ$-invariants grow or remain stable.

Heuristics for anti-cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions

This paper studies Iwasawa invariants in anti-cyclotomic towers. We do this by proposing two heuristics supported by computations. First we propose the Intersection Heuristics: these model `how often' the $p$-Hilbert class field of an imaginary quadratic field intersects the anti-cyclotomic tower and to what extent. Second we propose the Invariants Heuristics: these predict that the Iwasawa invariants $λ$ and $μ$ usually vanish for imaginary quadratic fields where $p$ is non-split.

Growth of $p$-parts of ideal class groups and fine Selmer groups in $\mathbb{Z}_q$-extensions with $p\neq q$

Fix two distinct odd primes $p$ and $q$. We study "$p\ne q$" Iwasawa theory in two different settings. Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field of class number 1 such that both $p$ and $q$ split in $K$. We show that under appropriate hypotheses, the $p$-part of the ideal class groups is bounded over finite subextensions of an anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_q$-extension of $K$. Let $F$ be a number field and let $A_{/F}$ be an abelian variety with $A[p]\subseteq A(F)$. We give sufficient conditions for the $p$-part of the fine Selmer groups of $A$ over finite subextensions of a $\mathbb{Z}_q$-extension of $F$ to stabilize.

Non-vanishing modulo $p$ of Hecke $L$-values over imaginary quadratic fields

Let $p$ and $q$ be two distinct odd primes. Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field over which $p$ and $q$ are both split. Let $Ψ$ be a Hecke character over $K$ of infinity type $(k,j)$ with $0\le-j< k$. Under certain technical hypotheses, we show that for a Zariski dense set of finite-order characters $κ$ over $K$ which factor through the $\mathbb{Z}_q^2$-extension of $K$, the $p$-adic valuation of the algebraic part of the $L$-value $L(\overline{κΨ},k+j)$ is a constant independent of $κ$. In addition, when $j=0$ and certain technical hypothesis holds, this constant is zero.

Studying Hilbert's 10th problem via explicit elliptic curves

N.García-Fritz and H.Pasten showed that Hilbert's 10th problem is unsolvable in the ring of integers of number fields of the form $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[3]{p},\sqrt{-q})$ for positive proportions of primes $p$ and $q$. We improve their proportions and extend their results to the case of number fields of the form $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[3]{p},\sqrt{Dq})$, where $D$ belongs to an explicit family of positive square-free integers. We achieve this by using multiple elliptic curves, and replace their Iwasawa theory arguments by a more direct method.

Iwasawa Invariants for elliptic curves over $\mathbb{Z}_{p}$-extensions and Kida's Formula

This paper aims at studying the Iwasawa $λ$-invariant of the $p$-primary Selmer group. We study the growth behaviour of $p$-primary Selmer groups in $p$-power degree extensions over non-cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions of a number field. We prove a generalization of Kida's formula in such a case. Unlike the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension, where all primes are finitely decomposed; in the $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions we consider, primes may be infinitely decomposed. In the second part of the paper, we study the relationship for Iwasawa invariants with respect to congruences, obtaining refinements of the results of R. Greenberg-V. Vatsal and K. Kidwell. As an application, we provide an algorithm for constructing elliptic curves with large anticyclotomic $λ$-invariant. Our results are illustrated by explicit computation.

Control theorems for fine Selmer groups, and duality of fine Selmer groups attached to modular forms

Let $\mathcal{O}$ be the ring of integers of a finite extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$. We prove two control theorems for fine Selmer groups of general cofinitely generated modules over $\mathcal{O}$. We apply these control theorems to compare the fine Selmer group attached to a modular form $f$ over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb{Q}$ to its counterpart attached to the conjugate modular form $\overline{f}$.

Arithmetic Statistics and noncommutative Iwasawa Theory

Let $p$ be an odd prime. Associated to a pair $(E, \mathcal{F}_\infty)$ consisting of a rational elliptic curve $E$ and a $p$-adic Lie extension $\mathcal{F}_\infty$ of $\mathbb{Q}$, is the $p$-primary Selmer group $Sel_{p^\infty}(E/\mathcal{F}_\infty)$ of $E$ over $\mathcal{F}_\infty$. In this paper, we study the arithmetic statistics for the algebraic structure of this Selmer group. The results provide insights into the asymptotics for the growth of Mordell--Weil ranks of elliptic curves in noncommutative towers.

Anticyclotomic $\largeμ$-invariants of residually reducible Galois Representations

Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over an imaginary quadratic field $K$, and $p$ be an odd prime such that the residual representation $E[p]$ is reducible. The $μ$-invariant of the fine Selmer group of $E$ over the anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $K$ is studied. We do not impose the Heegner hypothesis on $E$, thus allowing certain primes of bad reduction to decompose infinitely in the anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension. It is shown that the fine $μ$-invariant vanishes if certain explicit conditions are satisfied. Further, a partial converse is proven.

Perfect Powers that are Sums of Squares of an Arithmetic Progression

In this paper, we determine all primitive solutions to the equation $(x+r)^2 +(x+2r)^2 +\cdots +(x+dr)^2 = y^n$ for $2\leq d\leq 10$ and for $1\leq r\leq 10^4$. We make use of a factorization argument and the Primitive Divisors Theorem due to Bilu, Hanrot and Voutier.
