A note on quadratic twisting of epsilon factors for modular forms with arbitrary nebentypus

In this article, we investigate the variance of local $\varepsilon$-factor for a modular form with arbitrary nebentypus with respect to twisting by a quadratic character. We detect the type of the supercuspidal representation from that. For modular forms with trivial nebentypus, similar results are proved by Pacetti. Our method however is completely different from that of Pacetti and we use representation theory crucially. For ramified principal series (with $\infdiv{p}{N}$ and $p$ odd) and unramified supercuspidal representations of level zero, we relate these numbers with the Morita's $p$-adic Gamma function.

Eisenstein cycles as modular symbols

For any odd integer N, we explicitly write down the Eisenstein cycles in the first homology group of modular curves of level N as linear combinations of Manin symbols. These cycles are, by definition, those over which every integral of holomorphic differential forms vanish. Our result can be seen as an explicit version of the Manin-Drinfeld Theorem. Our method is to characterize such Eisenstein cycles as eigenvectors for the Hecke operators. We make crucial use of expressions of Hecke actions on modular symbols and on auxiliary level 2 structures.

The Eisenstein elements of modular symbols for level product of two distinct odd primes

We explicitly write down the Eisenstein elements inside the space of modular symbols for Eisenstein series with integer coefficients for the congruence subgroups Γ_0 (pq) with p and q distinct odd primes, giving an answer to a question of Merel in these cases. We also compute the winding elements explicitly for these congruence subgroups. Our results are explicit versions of the Manin-Drinfeld Theorem.

p-adic L-functions for GL(n)

These are the expanded notes of a mini-course of four lectures by the same title given in the workshop "p-adic aspects of modular forms" held at IISER Pune, in June, 2014. We give a brief introduction of p-adic L-functions attached to certain types of automorphic forms on GL(n) with the specific aim of understanding the p-adic symmetric cube L-function attached to a cusp form on GL(2) over rational numbers.
