Griffiths-like phase, spin-phonon coupling, and exchange-bias in the disordered double perovskite GdSrCoMnO$_{6}$

We report structural, magnetic, and Raman studies of the disordered double perovskite GdSrCoMnO$_{6}$~(GSCM). DC magnetization shows a ferromagnetic transition at $T_{C} \approx 153$~K. The inverse susceptibility exhibits a downturn above $T_{C}$ and is consistent with a Griffiths-like regime extending up to $T_{G} \approx 172$~K. Raman measurements show a deviation of the phonon frequency from the anharmonic background near the magnetic-ordering region, consistent with spin-phonon coupling. AC susceptibility indicates slow magnetic dynamics below the freezing temperature $T_{f} \approx 30$~K. These results point to magnetic inhomogeneity generated by the random distribution of mixed-valence Co and Mn ions and by the resulting competition between ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions. In the low-temperature regime, an exchange-bias effect is observed up to 50~K, with an exchange-bias magnitude $|H_{EB}| = 379$~Oe at 5~K. Structural disorder therefore plays an important role in the magnetic correlations, spin dynamics, and spin-lattice response of GSCM.

Bipartite entanglement via distance between the states in a one dimensional spin 1/2 dimer copper acetate monohydrate

In this paper, we used a theoretical measure known as distance between the states, $\mathcal{E}(ρ_e)$, to determine the bipartite entanglement of a one dimensional magnetic dimer system. The calculation was compared with the well-known entanglement measure, concurrence, and found to be the same. $\mathcal{E}(ρ_e)$ was, then, expressed in terms of two thermodynamic quantities, namely, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat. Experimental verification of temperature variation of the bipartite entanglement measure in terms of magnetic susceptibility and specific heat was done on single crystals of copper acetate-an excellent one dimensional dimer system. The results showed the existence of bipartite entanglement till temperatures as high as room temperature! Large sized single crystals of copper acetate were grown by a new evaporation technique and characterised by TGA, IR and Raman spectroscopy measurements.Density functional theory calculations were done to calculate the delocalisation index which showed much lower values of $δ(Cu,Cu)$ than other bonds, implying that the probability of direct Cu-Cu exchange in copper acetate is very small.

Raman fingerprints of fractionalized Majorana excitations in honeycomb iridate Ag$_3$LiIr$_2$O$_6$

We report low-temperature (down to $\sim$5 K) Raman signatures of the recently discovered intercalated honeycomb magnet Ag$_3$LiIr$_2$O$_6$, a putative Kitaev quantum spin liquid (QSL) candidate. The Kitaev QSL is predicted to host Majorana fermions as its emergent elementary excitations through a thermal fractionalization of entangled spins $S = 1/2$. We observe evidence of this fractionalization in the low-energy magnetic continuum whose temperature evolution harbours signatures of the predicted Fermi statistics obeyed by the itinerant Majorana quasiparticles. The magnetic Raman susceptibility evinces a crossover from the conventional to a Kitaev paramagnetic state below the temperature of $\sim$80 K. Additionally, the development of the Fano asymmetry in the low frequency phonon mode and the enhancement of integrated Raman susceptibilities below the crossover temperature signifies prominent coupling between the vibrational and Majorana fermionic excitations.

Paramagnetic resonance in La2NiMnO6 probed by impedance and lock-in detection techniques

We report the detection of paramagnetic resonance in the double perovskite La2NiMnO6 at room temperature for microwave magnetic fields with frequencies, f = 1 GHz to 5 GHz, using two cavity-less methods. We use an indirect impedance method which makes use of a radio frequency impedance analyzer and a folded copper strip coil for the frequency range f = 1 to 2.2 GHz. In this method, when an applied dc magnetic field is swept, high-frequency resistance of the strip coil exhibits a sharp peak and the reactance curve crosses zero exhibiting resonance. A lock-in based broadband setup using a coplanar waveguide for microwave excitation was used for f = 2 to 5 GHz The resonance fields (Hr) obtained from both the techniques increase linearly with frequency and a large spectroscopic g-factor, equal to 2.1284, which supports the presence of Ni2+ cation with strong spin-orbit coupling. Line shape analysis and analytical fitting were performed to characterize the material in terms of its initial susceptibility and damping parameters.
