Measuring and aggregating {\epsilon}-T-transitive fuzzy relations

The transitivity of fuzzy relations plays an important role in fuzzy set theory, artificial intelligence, clustering and decision-making. However, it is often difficult for fuzzy relations to satisfy the transitivity property in many practical applications. This has motivated researchers to investigate the degree to which a fuzzy relation is transitive. Therefore, this work first investigates two different measures of T-transitivity for fuzzy relations using some well-known fuzzy implications. And then, the relationship between two different degrees of transitivity is investigated. Further, the concept of an {\epsilon}-T-transitive fuzzy relation is introduced, and the aggregation functions that preserve the {\epsilon}-T-transitivity of fuzzy relations are characterized. Finally, the {\epsilon}-T-transitive fuzzy relation is utilized to make inferences and cluster objects. Compared to finding the T-transitive closure, it is reasonable to cluster objects using the {\epsilon}-T-transitive fuzzy relation under the permissible error.

Hierarchical similarity-based approximate reasoning with restricted equivalence function

Given that the restricted equivalence functions (REFs) can serve to measure the similarity of two fuzzy sets, this motivates the integration of REFs with similarity-based approximate reasoning systems to enhance inference capabilities. Therefore, this work primarily constructs hierarchical similarity-based approximate reasoning (SBAR) using REFs. Specifically, we first characterize REFs with a given aggregation function, then discuss the approximation equality of SBAR method proposed by Raha et al. with REFs. Finally, we suggest two REF-based hierarchical Raha's SBAR methods which efficiently restrain the explosion of fuzzy rules.

Introducing Quality Estimation to Machine Translation Post-editing Workflow: An Empirical Study on Its Usefulness

This preliminary study investigates the usefulness of sentence-level Quality Estimation (QE) in English-Chinese Machine Translation Post-Editing (MTPE), focusing on its impact on post-editing speed and student translators' perceptions. It also explores the interaction effects between QE and MT quality, as well as between QE and translation expertise. The findings reveal that QE significantly reduces post-editing time. The examined interaction effects were not significant, suggesting that QE consistently improves MTPE efficiency across medium- and high-quality MT outputs and among student translators with varying levels of expertise. In addition to indicating potentially problematic segments, QE serves multiple functions in MTPE, such as validating translators' evaluations of MT quality and enabling them to double-check translation outputs. However, interview data suggest that inaccurate QE may hinder post-editing processes. This research provides new insights into the strengths and limitations of QE, facilitating its more effective integration into MTPE workflows to enhance translators' productivity.

MP and MT properties of fuzzy inference with aggregation function

As the two basic fuzzy inference models, fuzzy modus ponens (FMP) and fuzzy modus tollens (FMT) have the important application in artificial intelligence. In order to solve FMP and FMT problems, Zadeh proposed a compositional rule of inference (CRI) method. This paper aims mainly to investigate the validity of A-compositional rule of inference (ACRI) method, as a generalized CRI method based on aggregation functions, from a logical view and an interpolative view, respectively. Specifically, the modus ponens (MP) and modus tollens (MT) properties of ACRI method are discussed in detail. It is shown that the aggregation functions to implement FMP and FMT problems provide more generality than the t-norms, uninorms and overlap functions as well-known the laws of T-conditionality, U-conditionality and O-conditionality, respectively. Moreover, two examples are also given to illustrate our theoretical results. Especially, Example 6.2 shows that the output B' in FMP(FMT) problem is close to B(DC) with our proposed inference method when the fuzzy input and the antecedent of fuzzy rule are near (the fuzzy input near with the negation of the seccedent in fuzzy rule).

MISO hierarchical inference engine satisfying the law of importation with aggregation functions

Fuzzy inference engine, as one of the most important components of fuzzy systems, can obtain some meaningful outputs from fuzzy sets on input space and fuzzy rule base using fuzzy logic inference methods. In order to enhance the computational efficiency of fuzzy inference engine in multi-input-single-output(MISO) fuzzy systems, this paper aims mainly to investigate three MISO fuzzy hierarchial inference engines based on fuzzy implications satisfying the law of importation with aggregation functions (LIA). We firstly find some aggregation functions for well-known fuzzy implications such that they satisfy (LIA). For a given aggregation function, the fuzzy implication which satisfies (LIA) with this aggregation function is then characterized. Finally, we construct three fuzzy hierarchical inference engines in MISO fuzzy systems applying aforementioned theoretical developments.

Approximate reasoning with aggregation functions satisfying GMP rules

To strengthen the effectiveness of approximate reasoning in fuzzy modus ponens (FMP) and fuzzy modus tollens (FMT) problems, three approximate reasoning schemes with aggregation functions are developed and their validity is respectively investigated in this paper. We firstly study some properties of fuzzy implication generated by aggregation function. And then present an $A$-compositional rule of inference (ACRI) as an extension of Zadeh's CRI replacing $t$-norm by an aggregation function. The similarity-based approximate reasoning with aggregation functions is further discussed. Moreover, we provide the quintuple implication principle (QIP) method with aggregation functions to solve FMP and FMT problems. Finally, the validity of our proposed three approximate reasoning approaches is respectively analyzed using GMP rules in detail.
