Effective Ionic Valence and Local Magnetic Moment in Kagome Superconductors

In order to understand the unexpected similarity and the correlated behavior in kagome superconductor families AV$_3$Sb$_5$ (A = K, Rb, Cs) and ATi$_3$Bi$_5$ (A = Rb, Cs), we investigate the Hartree-scale local electronic structure of these systems. Our result indicates that V and Ti ions are both of 2+ valence such that the corresponding itinerant carrier densities are similar, and the difference in electron count is instead reflected in their quantum fluctuating ionic magnetic moments. However, due to the frustrated lattice geometry of these materials, such local moments are difficult to experimentally observe via standard probes. For verification, we systematically introduce nonmagnetic Sn impurities to locally relieve the geometric frustration and experimentally demonstrate the existence of well-defined local magnetic moments via magnetic susceptibility and muon spin rotation or relaxation ($\mu$SR) measurements. All experiments discover a systematic increase of magnetic susceptibility upon increasing nonmagnetic impurity level. Our discovered ionic moments suggest a paradigm shift from the existing itinerant carrier-only picture to one incorporating strong correlation from local ionic spins. The associated interatomic and local-itinerant correlations offer a solid ground for the emergence of the observed rich correlated behavior in this new family of superconducting materials.

Entangled Telecom Photon Generation using Twisted Van der Waals Crystals

Nanoscale quantum light sources are essential building blocks for integrated quantum photonic systems. Here, we report a wavelength-scale entangled-photon source based on van der Waals-engineered NbOBr$_2$, and benchmark its performance for telecom-wavelength quantum light generation. By exploiting the material's second-order nonlinearity, we generate quantum-correlated photon pairs via spontaneous parametric down-conversion. We then use a 90$^{\circ}$ twisted stacking to induce quantum interference in photon-pair generation, yielding polarization-entangled photons. This approach enables tunability of the quantum optical state via control of the excitation laser polarization. We experimentally obtain entanglement fidelities exceeding 95% for Bell states, along with a high coincidence-to-accidental ratio of $\sim$335, and a brightness approximately one order of magnitude higher than recently reported telecom sources based on transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) 2D materials. These results establish twisted van der Waals engineering as a powerful platform for highly tunable, high-brightness quantum light sources at telecom wavelengths.

Anomalous Low-temperature Magnetotransport in Kagome Metal CsCr$_3$Sb$_5$ under Pressure

As a unique kagome superconductor displaying clear signatures of strong electronic correlations, CsCr$_3$Sb$_5$ has drawn much attention. Its rich temperature-pressure phase diagram features intertwined orders including pressure-induced superconductivity and two density-wave-like phases, making it an outstanding platform to explore the complex coexistence and competition of multiple quantum orders. At around 30 K, which we designate as $T_3$, a possible anomaly manifesting as a hump in the resistivity has been observed, yet its nature remains largely unexplored due to limited supporting evidence from other probes. Here, we conducted systematic magnetotransport experiments under hydrostatic pressure to investigate the nature of this anomaly. Our results reveal an abundance of intriguing magnetotransport signatures below $T_3$, including a non-trivial temperature dependence of the Hall coefficient, multi-band characteristics, and pressure-enhanced anomalous-Hall-like effect. These signatures bear resemblance to those observed in the charge-density-wave state in the sister compound CsV$_3$Sb$_5$. These findings suggest the possibility of an additional, exotic electronic order in CsCr$_3$Sb$_5$, calling for further detailed investigations.

High-Performance KV$_3$Sb$_5$/WSe$_2$ van der Waals Photodetectors

Kagome metals AV$_3$Sb$_5$ (A = K, Rb, Cs) have recently emerged as a promising platform for exploring correlated and topological quantum states, yet their potential for optoelectronic applications remains largely unexplored. Here, we report high-performance photodetectors based on van der Waals KV$_3$Sb$_5$/WSe$_2$ heterojunctions. A high-quality Schottky interface readily forms between KV$_3$Sb$_5$ and WSe$_2$, enabling efficient separation and transport of photoinduced carriers. Under 520 nm illumination, the device achieves an open-circuit voltage up to 0.6 V, a responsivity of 809 mA/W, and a fast response time of 18.3 us. This work demonstrates the promising optoelectronic applications of Kagome metals and highlights the potential of KV$_3$Sb$_5$-based van der Waals heterostructures for high-performance photodetection.

Switchable chiral 2x2 pair density wave in pure CsV3Sb5

We investigate electron pairing in a super clean kagome superconductor CsV3Sb5 with a residual resistivity ratio (RRR) of 290. By using the dilution-refrigerator-based scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) at the Synergetic Extreme Condition User Facility (SECUF), we find that the pairing gap exhibits chiral 2x2 modulations, and their chirality can be controlled by magnetic field training. We introduce nonmagnetic impurities to observe the complete suppression of 2x2 pairing modulations in presence of persistent 2x2 charge order. This nonmagnetic pair-breaking effect provides phase-sensitive evidence for pair-density-wave (PDW) induced pairing modulations. Our results support switchable chiral 2x2 PDW in this super clean kagome superconductor.
