Robust-Adaptive Interval Predictive Control for Linear Uncertain Systems

We consider the problem of stabilization of a linear system, under state and control constraints, and subject to bounded disturbances and unknown parameters in the state matrix. First, using a simple least square solution and available noisy measurements, the set of admissible values for parameters is evaluated. Second, for the estimated set of parameter values and the corresponding linear interval model of the system, two interval predictors are recalled and an unconstrained stabilizing control is designed that uses the predicted intervals. Third, to guarantee the robust constraint satisfaction, a model predictive control algorithm is developed, which is based on solution of an optimization problem posed for the interval predictor. The conditions for recursive feasibility and asymptotic performance are established. Efficiency of the proposed control framework is illustrated by numeric simulations.

Interval Prediction for Continuous-Time Systems with Parametric Uncertainties

The problem of behaviour prediction for linear parameter-varying systems is considered in the interval framework. It is assumed that the system is subject to uncertain inputs and the vector of scheduling parameters is unmeasurable, but all uncertainties take values in a given admissible set. Then an interval predictor is designed and its stability is guaranteed applying Lyapunov function with a novel structure. The conditions of stability are formulated in the form of linear matrix inequalities. Efficiency of the theoretical results is demonstrated in the application to safe motion planning for autonomous vehicles.

Approximate Robust Control of Uncertain Dynamical Systems

This work studies the design of safe control policies for large-scale non-linear systems operating in uncertain environments. In such a case, the robust control framework is a principled approach to safety that aims to maximize the worst-case performance of a system. However, the resulting optimization problem is generally intractable for non-linear systems with continuous states. To overcome this issue, we introduce two tractable methods that are based either on sampling or on a conservative approximation of the robust objective. The proposed approaches are applied to the problem of autonomous driving.

Moment Matching Based Model Reduction for LPV State-Space Models

We present a novel algorithm for reducing the state dimension, i.e. order, of linear parameter varying (LPV) discrete-time state-space (SS) models with affine dependence on the scheduling variable. The input-output behavior of the reduced order model approximates that of the original model. In fact, for input and scheduling sequences of a certain length, the input-output behaviors of the reduced and original model coincide. The proposed method can also be interpreted as a reachability and observability reduction (minimization) procedure for LPV-SS representations with affine dependence.

Uniting Control for Finite Time Stabilization of Nonlinear Detectable Systems

The stabilization of nonlinear systems under zero-state-detectability assumption or its analogues is considered. The proposed supervisory control provides a finite time practical stabilization of output and it is based on uniting local and global controllers. The global control ensures boundedness of solutions and output convergence to zero, while local one ensures finite time convergence to a predefined set into the zero dynamics set. Computer simulation illustrates advantages of the proposed algorithm.

Adaptive Set Observers Design for Nonlinear Continuous-Time Systems: Application to Fault Detection and Diagnosis

The paper deals with joint state and parameter estimation for nonlinear continuous-time systems. Based on a guaranteed LPV approximation, the set adaptive observers design problem is solved avoiding the exponential complexity obstruction usually met in the set-membership parameter estimation. Potential application to fault diagnosis is considered. The efficacy of the proposed set adaptive observers is demonstrated on several examples.

Robust output stabilization: improving performance via supervisory control

We analyze robust stability, in an input-output sense, of switched stable systems. The primary goal (and contribution) of this paper is to design switching strategies to guarantee that input-output stable systems remain so under switching. We propose two types of {\em supervisors}: dwell-time and hysteresis based. While our results are stated as tools of analysis they serve a clear purpose in design: to improve performance. In that respect, we illustrate the utility of our findings by concisely addressing a problem of observer design for Lur'e-type systems; in particular, we design a hybrid observer that ensures ``fast'' convergence with ``low'' overshoots. As a second application of our main results we use hybrid control in the context of synchronization of chaotic oscillators with the goal of reducing control effort; an originality of the hybrid control in this context with respect to other contributions in the area is that it exploits the structure and chaotic behavior (boundedness of solutions) of Lorenz oscillators.

Adaptive Regulation to Invariant Sets

A new framework for adaptive regulation to invariant sets is proposed. Reaching the target dynamics (invariant set) is to be ensured by state feedback while adaptation to parametric uncertainties is provided by additional adaptation algorithm. We show that for a sufficiently large class of nonlinear systems it is possible to adaptively steer the system trajectories to the desired non-equilibrium state without requiring knowledge or existence of a specific strict Lyapunov function.
