Ground state energy of the Bose--Hubbard model with large coordination number with a polaron-type quantum de Finetti theorem

We consider the ground state energy of the Bose--Hubbard model on a graph with large and homogeneous coordination number. In the limit of infinite coordination number, we prove convergence of the ground state energy to the minimizer of a mean-field energy functional. This functional is obtained by averaging the hopping term over the large number of connected sites, while the interaction energy is not averaged. Hence, the resulting mean-field description is in the strong coupling regime, and is expected to provide a qualitatively correct picture of the phase diagram of the Bose--Hubbard model for large enough coordination number. For our proof, we develop a new version of a de Finetti-type theorem, which we call the polaron-type quantum de Finetti theorem, and which we expect to be a more broadly useful extension of existing quantum de Finetti results. Our theorem covers the case where the Hilbert space is a tensor product of some Hilbert space with a bosonic Fock space. This theorem is applied to the convergence of the ground state energy of the Bose--Hubbard model after reducing it to a polaron-type model.

Gyrokinetic limit of the 2D Hartree equation in a large magnetic field

We study the dynamics of two-dimensional interacting fermions submitted to a homogeneous transverse magnetic field. We consider a large magnetic field regime, with the gap between Landau levels set to the same order as that of potential energy contributions. Within the mean-field approximation, i.e. starting from Hartree's equation for the first reduced density matrix, we derive a drift equation for the particle density. We use vortex coherent states and the associated Husimi function to define a semi-classical density almost satisfying the limiting equation. We then deduce convergence of the density of the true Hartree solution by a Dobrushin-type stability estimate.

Mean-Field Dynamics of the Bose-Hubbard Model in High Dimension

The Bose-Hubbard model effectively describes bosons on a lattice with on-site interactions and nearest-neighbour hopping, serving as a foundational framework for understanding strong particle interactions and the superfluid to Mott insulator transition. This paper aims to rigorously establish the validity of a mean-field approximation for the dynamics of quantum systems in high dimension, using the Bose-Hubbard model on a square lattice as a case study. We prove a trace norm estimate between the one-lattice-site reduced density of the Schrödinger dynamics and the mean-field dynamics in the limit of large dimension. Here, the mean-field approximation is in the hopping amplitude and not in the interaction, leading to a very rich and non-trivial mean-field equation. This mean-field equation does not only describe the condensate, as is the case when the mean-field description comes from a large particle number limit averaging out the interaction, but it allows for a phase transition to a Mott insulator since it contains the full non-trivial interaction. Our work is a rigorous justification of a simple case of the highly successful dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) for bosons, which somewhat surprisingly yields many qualitatively correct results in three dimensions.

Multiple Landau level filling for a mean field limit of 2D fermions

Motivated by the quantum hall effect, we study N two dimensional interacting fermions in a large magnetic field limit. We work in a bounded domain, ensuring finite degeneracy of the Landau levels. In our regime, several levels are fully filled and inert: the density in these levels is constant. We derive a limiting mean-field and semi classical description of the physics in the last, partially filled Landau level.
