Quantum timekeeping and the dynamics of scrambling in critical systems

In this work, we develop a quantum metrological framework for quantum chaos by showing that local subsystems of information scrambling systems naturally function as quantum stopwatches. The reduced quantum state of a subsystem encodes the passage of time through its growing distinguishability from the initial preparation. Treating time as the estimation parameter, we then derive a generalized quantum Cramer-Rao bound that directly relates the precision of time estimation to the decay of out-of-time ordered correlators (OTOCs) and subsystem quantum Fisher information (QFI). As a main result, we obtain continuity bounds for quantum Lyapunov exponent in terms of the subsystem QFI in quantumly chaotic dynamics. Furthermore, using a scaling analysis based on imaginary-time correlators, we show that the subsystem QFI exhibits universal critical amplification near quantum phase transitions. Our results are demonstrated and verified by a numerical analysis of the dynamics of a chaotic Ising chain.

Quantum speed limit for the OTOC from an open systems perspective

Scrambling, the delocalization of initially localized quantum information, is commonly characterized by the out-of-time ordered correlator (OTOC). Employing the OTOC-Renyi-2 entropy theorem we derive a quantum speed limit for the OTOC, which sets an lower bound for the rate with which information can be scrambled. This bound becomes particularly tractable by describing the scrambling of information in a closed quantum system as an effective decoherence process of an open system interacting with an environment. We prove that decay of the OTOC can be bounded by the strength of the system-environment coupling and two-point environmental correlation functions. We validate our analytic bound numerically using the non-integrable transverse field Ising model. Our results provide a universal and model-agnostic quantitative framework for understanding the dynamical limits of information spreading across quantum many-body physics, condensed matter, and engineered quantum platforms.

Quantum information scrambling in two-dimensional Bose-Hubbard lattices

It is a well-understood fact that the transport of excitations throughout a lattice is intimately governed by the underlying structures. Hence, it is only natural to recognize that also the dispersion of information has to depend on the lattice geometry. In the present work, we demonstrate that two-dimensional lattices described by the Bose-Hubbard model exhibit information scrambling for systems as little as two hexagons. However, we also find that the OTOC shows the exponential decay characteristic for quantum chaos only for a judicious choice of local observables. More generally, the OTOC is better described by Gaussian-exponential convolutions, which alludes to the close similarity of information scrambling and decoherence theory.

Bootstrapping PT symmetric Hamiltonians

Bootstrapping in Quantum Mechanics uses positivity condition to derive the Eigenspectum. For non-hermitian systems usual positivity condition does not work. In this paper we define positivity condition for special class of non-hermitian hamiltonian, the PT symmetric Hamiltonian. We illustrate this modified positivity condition with several examples and obtain eigenspectrum.
