Are VLMs Lost Between Sky and Space? LinkS$^2$Bench for UAV-Satellite Dynamic Cross-View Spatial Intelligence

Synergistic spatial intelligence between UAVs and satellites is indispensable for emergency response and security operations, as it uniquely integrates macro-scale global coverage with dynamic, real-time local perception. However, the capacity of Vision-Language Models (VLMs) to master this complex interplay remains largely unexplored. This gap persists primarily because existing benchmarks are confined to isolated Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) videos or static satellite imagery, failing to evaluate the dynamic local-to-global spatial mapping essential for comprehensive cross-view reasoning. To bridge this gap, we introduce LinkS$^2$Bench, the first comprehensive benchmark designed to evaluate VLMs' wide-area, dynamic cross-view spatial intelligence. LinkS$^2$Bench links 1,022 minutes of dynamic UAV footage with high-resolution satellite imagery covering over 200 km$^2$. Through an LMM-assisted pipeline and rigorous human annotation, we constructed 17.9k high-quality question-answer pairs comprising 12 fine-grained tasks across four dimensions: perception, localization, relation, and reasoning. Evaluations of 18 representative VLMs reveal a substantial gap compared to human baselines, identifying accurate cross-view dynamic alignment as the critical bottleneck. To alleviate this, we design a Cross-View Alignment Adapter, demonstrating that explicit alignment significantly improves model performance. Furthermore, fine-tuning experiments underscore the potential of LinkS$^2$Bench in advancing VLM adaptation for complex spatial reasoning.

Cache Placement Optimization in Mobile Edge Computing Networks with Unaware Environment -- An Extended Multi-armed Bandit Approach

Caching high-frequency reuse contents at the edge servers in the mobile edge computing (MEC) network omits the part of backhaul transmission and further releases the pressure of data traffic. However, how to efficiently decide the caching contents for edge servers is still an open problem, which refers to the cache capacity of edge servers, the popularity of each content, and the wireless channel quality during transmission. In this paper, we discuss the influence of unknown user density and popularity of content on the cache placement solution at the edge server. Specifically, towards the implementation of the cache placement solution in the practical network, there are two problems needing to be solved. First, the estimation of unknown users' preference needs a huge amount of records of users' previous requests. Second, the overlapping serving regions among edge servers cause the wrong estimation of users' preference, which hinders the individual decision of caching placement. To address the first issue, we propose a learning-based solution to adaptively optimize the cache placement policy. We develop the extended multi-armed bandit (Extended MAB), which combines the generalized global bandit (GGB) and Standard Multi-armed bandit (MAB). For the second problem, a multi-agent Extended MAB-based solution is presented to avoid the mis-estimation of parameters and achieve the decentralized cache placement policy. The proposed solution determines the primary time slot and secondary time slot for each edge server. The proposed strategies are proven to achieve the bounded regret according to the mathematical analysis. Extensive simulations verify the optimality of the proposed strategies when comparing with baselines.

ACSC: Automatic Calibration for Non-repetitive Scanning Solid-State LiDAR and Camera Systems

Recently, the rapid development of Solid-State LiDAR (SSL) enables low-cost and efficient obtainment of 3D point clouds from the environment, which has inspired a large quantity of studies and applications. However, the non-uniformity of its scanning pattern, and the inconsistency of the ranging error distribution bring challenges to its calibration task. In this paper, we proposed a fully automatic calibration method for the non-repetitive scanning SSL and camera systems. First, a temporal-spatial-based geometric feature refinement method is presented, to extract effective features from SSL point clouds; then, the 3D corners of the calibration target (a printed checkerboard) are estimated with the reflectance distribution of points. Based on the above, a target-based extrinsic calibration method is finally proposed. We evaluate the proposed method on different types of LiDAR and camera sensor combinations in real conditions, and achieve accuracy and robustness calibration results. Testing Untestable Neural Machine Translation: An Industrial Case

Neural Machine Translation (NMT) has been widely adopted recently due to its advantages compared with the traditional Statistical Machine Translation (SMT). However, an NMT system still often produces translation failures due to the complexity of natural language and sophistication in designing neural networks. While in-house black-box system testing based on reference translations (i.e., examples of valid translations) has been a common practice for NMT quality assurance, an increasingly critical industrial practice, named in-vivo testing, exposes unseen types or instances of translation failures when real users are using a deployed industrial NMT system. To fill the gap of lacking test oracle for in-vivo testing of an NMT system, in this paper, we propose a new approach for automatically identifying translation failures, without requiring reference translations for a translation task; our approach can directly serve as a test oracle for in-vivo testing. Our approach focuses on properties of natural language translation that can be checked systematically and uses information from both the test inputs (i.e., the texts to be translated) and the test outputs (i.e., the translations under inspection) of the NMT system. Our evaluation conducted on real-world datasets shows that our approach can effectively detect targeted property violations as translation failures. Our experiences on deploying our approach in both production and development environments of WeChat (a messenger app with over one billion monthly active users) demonstrate high effectiveness of our approach along with high industry impact.
