Spin $ 2 $ spectrum for marginal deformations of 4d $ \mathcal{N}=2 $ SCFTs

We compute spin $ 2 $ spectrum associated with massive graviton fluctuations in $γ$-deformed Gaiotto-Maldacena background those are holographically dual to marginal deformations of $\mathcal{N}=2$ SCFTs in four dimensions. Under the special circumstances, we analytically estimate the spectra both for the $ γ$- deformed Abelian T dual (ATD) as well as the non-Abelian T dual (NATD) cases where we retain ourselves upto leading order in the deformation parameter. Our analysis reveals a continuous spectra which is associated with the breaking of the $ U(1) $ isometry (along the directions of the internal manifold) in the presence of the $ γ$- deformation. We also comment on the effects of adding flavour branes into the picture and the nature of the associated spin $ 2 $ operators in the dual $ \mathcal{N}=1 $ SCFTs.

Holographic duals of $ \mathcal{N}=1 $ quivers in 5d and their nonrelativistic limits

We explore nonrelativistic limits of $\mathcal{N}=1$ quiver gauge theories in 5d. The stringy counterpart of these SCFTs is characterised by torsional string Newton-Cartan (TSNC) sigma models those are defined over non-Lorentzian manifolds. We further show that under transverse T-duality, these TSNC sigma models are mapped into another new class of nonrelativistic sigma models those are defined over a T-dual TSNC background. Considering nonrelativistic limits of various field theory observables in a holographic set up, we further estimate corresponding entities in the TSNC limit of $ \mathcal{N}=1 $ quivers. We carry out a parallel analysis on holomorphic functions and the associated pole structures in the nonrelativistic limit of ($ p ,q $) five brane webs. In particular, we investigate the generic structure of various loop operators in a nonrelativistic set up and explore their properties under S-duality. Finally, we comment on the large $ c $ limit of RR fields and discuss the associated S-duality transformation rules in the nonrelativistic limit of $ \mathcal{N}=1 $ quivers.

Nonrelativistic expansion of M2 branes and M theory backgrounds

We initiate a systematic analysis of the nonrelativistic membrane solutions of M theory using the notion of 11d membrane Newton-Cartan (MNC) geometry as well as considering a $ 1/c^2 $ expansion for the embedding fields of the M2 brane world-volume theory. We discuss the associated boost and dilatation symmetries of the nonrelativistic world-volume theory at leading order in the $ 1/c $ expansion. We show that, in the static gauge, when the world-volume directions of the nonrelativistic M2 brane are stretched along the longitudinal axes of the target space geometry, the leading order action in the $ 1/c $ expansion becomes trivial. In other words, the nontrivial dynamics appears to be only at NLO and beyond. In our analysis, we focus on such embeddings only and obtain the corresponding dispersion relation associated with the nonrelativistic world-volume theory.

Nonrelativistic strings and the limits of $ \mathcal{N}=2 $ dualities

We carry out the formulation of nonrelativistic (NR) F-string theory for $ \mathcal{N}=2 $ Gaiotto-Maldacena class of geometries in type IIA supergravity. Considering the NS-NS sector, we reduce the type IIA theory into the NR sigma models those are formulated over the nonrelativistic target space geometries known as the torsional String Newton-Cartan (TSNC) backgrounds. Using these TSNC data, we write down the sigma model action and explore several properties in the semiclassical limit. In particular, we carry out the \emph{canonical} analysis of the T-duality transformation rules in TSNC background. Following the standard canonical prescription of obtaining T-duality transformations, we map these TSNC sigma models to relativistic sigma models propagating over general relativity backgrounds. Finally, we conclude with a detailed discussion on the effects of adding \emph{flavour} branes and thereby taking the corresponding TSNC limit in the bulk description of $ \mathcal{N}=2 $ quivers. We compute various field theory observables in the nonrelativistic limit and outline the structure of the NR Lagrangian following the light cone reduction of $ \mathcal{N}=2 $ SYM theory.

Holographic JT gravity with quartic couplings

We construct the most general theory of 2D Einstein-dilaton gravity coupled with $U(1)$ gauge fields that contains all the 2-derivative and the 4-derivative interactions allowed by the diffeomorphism invariance. We renormalise the 2D action and obtain the vacuum solution as well as the black hole solution. The vacuum solution in the UV is dominated by Lifshitz$_2$ with dynamical exponent ($z=\frac{7}{3}$) while on the other hand, the spacetime curvature diverges as we move towards the deep IR limit. We calculate the holographic stress tensor and the central charge for the boundary theory. Our analysis shows that the central charge goes as the inverse power of the coupling associated to 4-derivative interactions. We also compute the Wald entropy for 2D black holes and interpret its near horizon divergence in terms of the density of states. We compare the Wald entropy with the Cardy formula and obtain the eigen value of Virasoro operator ($L_0$) for our model. Finally, we explore the near horizon structure of 2D black holes and calculate the central charge corresponding to the CFT near horizon. We further show that the near horizon CFT may be recast as a 2D Liouville theory with higher derivative corrections. We study the Weyl invariance of this generalised Liouville theory and identify the Weyl anomaly associated to it. We also comment on the classical vacuum structure of the theory.

Non-integrability for $ \mathcal{N}=1 $ SCFTs in $ 5d $

We explore the \emph{Liouvillian} non-integrability criteria for long quiver gauge theories those preserve $ \mathcal{N}=1 $ SUSY in $ 5d $. We probe type IIB solutions with (an $ AdS_6 $ factor) semi-classical strings which capture the strong coupling dynamics of $ \mathcal{N}=1 $ SCFTs in $ 5d $. Our analysis reveals an underlying non-integrable structure within some sub-sector of these $ 5d $ SCFTs. To solidify our claim, we complement our analytic results through numerics. We estimate various chaos indicators for the phase space which confirm the onset of a \emph{chaotic} motion for these type IIB strings.

Fragmentation and defragmentation of strings in type IIA and their holographic duals

We probe type IIA geometries with \emph{folded} semiclassical strings those encode the strong coupling dynamics associated with long operators in a class of SCFTs pertaining to spacetimes whose dimension vary from $6d$ down to $2d$. We particularly focus on folded string configurations those are extended through stack of flavor $ Dp $ ($ p=6,8 $) branes localized along the internal manifold. Considering some specific examples within the realm of $ \mathcal{N}=2 $ linear quivers, we show that the associated string spectrum exhibits a pole as the string approaches flavor D6 branes. We identify this as a \emph{fragmentation} of long operators in the dual $ \mathcal{N}=2 $ SCFTs. On the other hand, a similar analysis for $ \mathcal{N}=(1,0) $ SCFTs in $6d$ as well as $ \mathcal{N}=(0,4) $ SCFTs in $ 4d $ reveals a set of new dispersion relations at strong coupling. Based on semiclassical calculations, we set an argument that explains either of these cases.

Penrose limit for holographic duals of $ J\bar{T} $ deformations

We explore bosonic string sigma models on warped $ BTZ\times S^3 $ both in the plane wave as well as beyond plane wave limit. Using the light cone gauge, we obtain the corresponding Hamiltonian and therefore the spectrum associated with the pp wave strings. Our analysis reveals a constant shift in the spectrum arising as a result of TsT transformations along the isometries of the target space manifold. Imposing the energy positivity constraint on the CFT$_2 $ spectrum, we estimate an upper bound on the shift. We also estimate corrections as we go beyond the plane wave limit. Finally, we perform calculations using conformal gauge which reveals identical spectrum for the pp wave strings and thereby shows the equivalence between the two approaches.

Analytic (non)integrability of Arutyunov-Bassi-Lacroix model

We use the notion of the gauge/string duality and discuss the Liouvillian (non) integrability criteria for string sigma models in the context of recently proposed Arutyunov-Bassi-Lacroix (ABL) model [JHEP \textbf{03} (2021), 062]. Our analysis complements those previous results due to numerical analysis as well as Lax pair formulation. We consider a winding string ansatz for the deformed torus $T^{\qty(λ_{1},λ_{2},λ)}_{k}$ which can be interpreted as a system of coupled pendulums. Our analysis reveals the Liouvillian nonintegrablity of the associated sigma model. We also obtain the \emph{generalized} decoupling limit and confirm the analytic integrability for the decoupled sector.

Decoding the Spin-Matrix limit of strings on $AdS_5 \times S^5$

In this Letter, we explore nonrelativistic string solutions in various subsectors of the $ SU(1,2|3) $ SMT strings that correspond to different spin groups and satisfy the respective BPS bounds. In particular, we carry out an explicit analysis on rotating string solutions in the light of recently proposed SMT limits. We explore newly constructed SMT limits of type IIB (super) strings on $ AdS_5 \times S^5 $ and estimate the corresponding leading order stringy corrections near the respective BPS bounds.

Multispin magnons from Spin-Matrix strings on $ AdS_5 \times S^5 $

The present Letter derives multispin nonrelativistic magnon spectrum considering various near BPS corners within $ SU(1,2|3) $ Spin-Matrix theory (SMT) limit of strings on $ AdS_5 \times S^5 $. In particular, we focus on some typical rotating string solutions those correspond to two spin as well as three spin configurations in the bulk and identify the associated nonrelativistic magnon like excitations in these models.

Nonrelativistic strings on $ R \times S^2 $ and integrable systems

We show that the (torsional) nonrelativistic string sigma models on $ R\times S^2 $ can be mapped into \emph{deformed} Rosochatius like integrable models in one dimension. We also explore the associated Hamiltonian constrained structure by introducing appropriate Dirac brackets. These results show some solid evidence of the underlying integrable structure in the nonrelativistic sector of the gauge/string duality.

JT gravity and the models of Hawking-Page transition for 2D black holes

We propose a top down construction for Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) gravity using compactification of $ D=5 $ gravity theories in the presence of Abelian ($ U(1) $) as well as $ SU(2) $ Yang-Mills (YM) fields. The background solutions corresponding to $ D=2 $ model have been obtained in the perturbative regime of the theory where the corrections have been estimated over the uncharged JT solutions while treating the gauge couplings as the parameters of the expansion. Our analysis reveals the existence of two classes of solutions namely, (i) the \emph{interpolating} vacuum solution with AdS$_2$ in the IR and Lifshitz$_2$ in the UV (which serves as the thermal radiation background for our analysis) and (ii) the charged 2D black hole solution exhibiting Lifshitz$_2$ asymptotics. The analysis on thermal stability reveals the onset of a first order phase transition at $ T \sim T_0 $ such that for $ T < T_0 $ the only possible state is the thermal radiation background without any black hole. On the other hand, as the temperature is gradually increased beyond certain \emph{crossover} value $ T\sim T_2 (>T_0 )$, an emerging \emph{globally} stable black hole dominated phase has been observed which clearly indicates the onset of Hawking-Page (HP) transition in 2D gravity models.

Nonrelativistic spinning strings

We construct nonrelativistic spinning string solutions corresponding to $ SU(1,2|3) $ Spin-Matrix theory (SMT) limit of strings in $ AdS_5 \times S^5 $. Considering various nonrelativistic spinning string configurations both in $ AdS_5 $ as well as $ S^5 $ we obtain corresponding dispersion relations in the strong coupling regime of SMT where the strong coupling ($ \sim \sqrt{\mathfrak{g}} $) corrections near the BPS bound have been estimated in the slow spinning limit of strings in $ AdS_5 $. We generalize our results explicitly by constructing three spin folded string configurations that has two of its spins along $ AdS_5 $ and one along $ S^5 $. Our analysis reveals that the correction to the spectrum depends non trivially on the length of the NR string in $ AdS_5 $. The rest of the paper essentially unfolds the underlying connection between $ SU(1,2|3) $ Spin-Matrix theory (SMT) limit of strings in $ AdS_5 \times S^5 $ and the nonrelativistic Neumann-Rosochatius like integrable models in 1D. Taking two specific examples of NR spinning strings in $ R \times S^3 $ as well as in certain sub-sector of $ AdS_5 $ we show that similar reduction is indeed possible where one can estimate the spectrum of the theory using 1D model.

Analytic integrability for holographic duals with $ J\bar{T} $ deformations

We probe warped BTZ $ \times S^3 $ geometry with various string solitons and explore the classical integrability criteria of the associated phase space configurations using Kovacic's algorithm. We consider consistent truncation of the parent sigma model into one dimension and obtain the corresponding normal variational equations (NVE). Two specific examples have been considered where the sigma model is reduced over the subspace of the full target space geometry. In both examples, NVEs are found to possess the Liouvillian form of solutions which ensures the classical integrability of the associated phase space dynamics. We address similar issues for the finite temperature counterpart of the duality, where we analyze the classical phase space of the string soliton probing warped BTZ black string geometry. Our analysis reveals clear compatibility between normal variational equations and the rules set by the Kovacic's criteria. This ensures the classical integrability of the parent sigma model for the finite-temperature extension of the duality conjecture.

Semiclassical dynamics for torsional Newton-Cartan strings

We explore \emph{folded} spinning string configurations over torsional Newton Cartan (TNC) geometry with $ R\times S^2 $ topology within the semiclassical approximation. We consider the large $ c $ and/or nonrelativistic (NR) limit associated with the world-sheet d.o.f. and compute the one loop stringy corrections to the energy spectrum in the dual Spin Matrix Theory (SMT) theory in the limit of strong ($ \mathtt{g}\gg 1 $) coupling.

Newton-Cartan $ D 0$ branes from $ D1 $ branes and integrability

We explore analytic integrability criteria for $ D1 $ branes probing 4D relativistic background with a null isometry direction. We use both the Kovacic's algorithm of classical (non)integrability as well as the standard formulation of Lax connections to show the analytic integrability of the associated dynamical configuration. We further use the notion of double null reduction and obtain the world-volume action corresponding to a torsional Newton-Cartan (TNC) $ D0 $ brane probing a 3D torsional Newton-Cartan geometry. Moreover, following Kovacic's method, we show the classical integrability of the TNC $ D0 $ brane configuration thus obtained. Finally, considering a trivial field redefinition for the $ D1 $ brane world-volume fields, we show the equivalence between two configurations in the presence of vanishing NS fluxes.

Lax pairs for string Newton Cartan geometry

In this paper, based on a systematic formulation of Lax pairs, we show \textit{classical} integrability for nonrelativistic strings propagating over \textit{stringy} Newton-Cartan (NC) geometry. We further construct the corresponding \textit{monodromy} matrix which leads to an infinite tower of \textit{non-local} conserved charges over stringy NC background.
