Stability Boundaries in Second-order Time-delayed Networks with Symmetry

In this contribution we aim to study the stability boundaries of solutions at equilibria for a second-order oscillator networks with SN-symmetry, we look for non-degenerate Hopf bifurcations as the time-delay between nodes increases. The remarkably simple stability criterion for synchronous solutions which, in the case of first-order self-oscillators, states that stability depends only on the sign of the coupling function derivative, is extended to a generic coupling function for second-order oscillators. As an application example, the stability boundaries for a N-node Phase-Locked Loop network is analysed.

Stability of Hopf bifurcations in Time-delayed fully-connected PLL networks

Dynamics in delayed differential equations (DDEs) is a well studied problem mainly because DDEs arise in models in many areas of science including biology, physiology, population dynamics and engineering. The change of nature in the solutions in the parameter space for a network of Phase-Locked Loop oscillators was studied in \textit{Symmetric bifurcation analysis of synchronous states of time-delayed coupled Phase-Locked Loop oscillators}. Communications in Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulation, Elsevier BV, Volume 22, Issues 1-3, May 2015, Pages 793-820, where the existence of Hopf bifurcations for both cases, symmetry-preserving and symmetry-breaking synchronization was well stablished. In this work we continue the analysis exploring the stability of small-amplitude periodic solutions emerging near Hopf bifurcations in the Fixed-point subspace, based on the reduction of the infinite-dimensional space onto a two-dimensional center manifold. Numerical simulations are presented in order to confirm our analitycal results. Although we explore network dynamics of second-order oscillators, results are extendable to higher order nodes.

Symmetric bifurcation analysis of synchronous states of time-delayed coupled Phase-Locked Loop oscillators

In recent years there has been an increasing interest in studying time-delayed coupled networks of oscillators since these occur in many real life applications. In many cases symmetry patterns can emerge in these networks, as a consequence a part of the system might repeat itself, and properties of this subsystem are representative of the dynamics on the whole phase space. In this paper an analysis of the second order N-node time-delay fully connected network is presented which is based on previous work by Correa and Piqueira \cite{Correa2013} for a 2-node network. This study is carried out using symmetry groups. We show the existence of multiple eigenvalues forced by symmetry, as well as the existence of Hopf bifurcations. Three different models are used to analyze the network dynamics, namely, the full-phase, the phase, and the phase-difference model. We determine a finite set of frequencies $ω$, that might correspond to Hopf bifurcations in each case for critical values of the delay. The $S_n$ map is used to actually find Hopf bifurcations along with numerical calculations using the Lambert W function. Numerical simulations are used in order to confirm the analytical results. Although we restrict attention to second order nodes, the results could be extended to higher order networks provided the time-delay in the connections between nodes remains equal.
