Localized control of large ion crystals in a Penning trap using a spatial light modulator

Penning ion traps as quantum platforms have primarily utilized global control and symmetric Dicke states for quantum simulation and sensing experiments. The introduction of local control greatly increases the power of the platform as a quantum simulator but is technically challenging due to the rapid rotation of the ion crystals. Here we use an ultraviolet-compatible spatial light modulator (SLM) to imprint programmable AC Stark shift patterns with different azimuthal symmetries and gradients that co-rotate with the ion crystals, demonstrating localized coherent control of single plane crystals with greater than 100 ions. Comparisons of the measured ion qubit populations with calculations from independent measurements of the applied AC Stark shift patterns show good agreement, validating the technique and providing a path, with a higher format SLM, for parallelizable, coherent individual ion addressing in Penning traps.

Few-shot Continual Relation Extraction via Open Information Extraction

Typically, Few-shot Continual Relation Extraction (FCRE) models must balance retaining prior knowledge while adapting to new tasks with extremely limited data. However, real-world scenarios may also involve unseen or undetermined relations that existing methods still struggle to handle. To address these challenges, we propose a novel approach that leverages the Open Information Extraction concept of Knowledge Graph Construction (KGC). Our method not only exposes models to all possible pairs of relations, including determined and undetermined labels not available in the training set, but also enriches model knowledge with diverse relation descriptions, thereby enhancing knowledge retention and adaptability in this challenging scenario. In the perspective of KGC, this is the first work explored in the setting of Continual Learning, allowing efficient expansion of the graph as the data evolves. Experimental results demonstrate our superior performance compared to other state-of-the-art FCRE baselines, as well as the efficiency in handling dynamic graph construction in this setting.

A Stochastic Programming Approach for Risk Management in Mobile Cloud Computing

The development of mobile cloud computing has brought many benefits to mobile users as well as cloud service providers. However, mobile cloud computing is facing some challenges, especially security-related problems due to the growing number of cyberattacks which can cause serious losses. In this paper, we propose a dynamic framework together with advanced risk management strategies to minimize losses caused by cyberattacks to a cloud service provider. In particular, this framework allows the cloud service provider to select appropriate security solutions, e.g., security software/hardware implementation and insurance policies, to deal with different types of attacks. Furthermore, the stochastic programming approach is adopted to minimize the expected total loss for the cloud service provider under its financial capability and uncertainty of attacks and their potential losses. Through numerical evaluation, we show that our approach is an effective tool in not only dealing with cyberattacks under uncertainty, but also minimizing the total loss for the cloud service provider given its available budget.

Cyberattack Detection in Mobile Cloud Computing: A Deep Learning Approach

With the rapid growth of mobile applications and cloud computing, mobile cloud computing has attracted great interest from both academia and industry. However, mobile cloud applications are facing security issues such as data integrity, users' confidentiality, and service availability. A preventive approach to such problems is to detect and isolate cyber threats before they can cause serious impacts to the mobile cloud computing system. In this paper, we propose a novel framework that leverages a deep learning approach to detect cyberattacks in mobile cloud environment. Through experimental results, we show that our proposed framework not only recognizes diverse cyberattacks, but also achieves a high accuracy (up to 97.11%) in detecting the attacks. Furthermore, we present the comparisons with current machine learning-based approaches to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed solution.
