A fourth generation, anomalous like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry and the LHC

A fourth chiral generation, with $m_{t^\prime}$ in the range $\sim (300 - 500)$ GeV and a moderate value of the CP-violating phase can explain the anomalous like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry observed recently by the D0 collaboration. The required parameters are found to be consistent with constraints from other $B$ and $K$ decays. The presence of such quarks, apart from being detectable in the early stages of the LHC, would also have important consequences in the electroweak symmetry breaking sector.

MSSM in view of PAMELA and Fermi-LAT

We take the MSSM as a complete theory of low energy phenomena, including neutrino masses and mixings. This immediately implies that the gravitino is the only possible dark matter candidate. We study the implications of the astrophysical experiments such as PAMELA and Fermi-LAT, on this scenario. The theory can account for both the realistic neutrino masses and mixings, and the PAMELA data as long as the slepton masses lie in the $500-10^6 $TeV range. The squarks can be either light or heavy, depending on their contribution to radiative neutrino masses. On the other hand, the Fermi-LAT data imply heavy superpartners, all out of LHC reach, simply on the grounds of the energy scale involved, for the gravitino must weigh more than 2 TeV. The perturbativity of the theory also implies an upper bound on its mass, approximately $6-7 $TeV.

Correlations between sneutrino-antisneutrino oscillations and signatures at the LHC in anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking

Sneutrino-antisneutrino oscillation can be observed at the LHC by studying a charge asymmetry of the leptons in the final states. In this talk, we demonstrate this in the context of an anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking model which can give rise to a large oscillation probability. The preferred region of the parameter space is characterized by the presence of a sneutrino next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle and a stau lightest supersymmetric particle. We show that the signals studied here have certain correlations with the pattern of the sneutrino oscillation.

Collider Signatures for Heavy Lepton Triplet in Type I+III Seesaw

The minimal SU(5) theory augmented by the fermionic adjoint representation restores the coupling constant unification and gives realistic neutrino masses and mixing through the hybrid Type I and Type III seesaw. The crucial prediction of the theory is an SU(2) lepton triplet with the mass below TeV. We study the signature of these heavy leptons and propose the strategy to test this mechanism at the hadron and lepton colliders. The smoking gun evidence of the theory is Delta L=2 lepton number violation through events of a pair of like-sign leptons plus four jets without significant missing energy at hadron colliders. We find that via this unique channel, the heavy lepton can be searched for up to a mass of 200 GeV at the Tevatron with 8 fb^-1, and up to 450 (700) GeV at the LHC of 14 TeV C.M.energy with 10 (100) fb^-1. The signal rate at the 10 TeV LHC is reduced to 60-35% for a mass of 200-700 GeV. We also comment on how to distinguish this theory from other models with similar heavy leptons. Finally, we compare the production rates and angular distributions of heavy leptons in e+e- collisions for various models.

Lepton Flavour Violating Heavy Higgs Decays Within the nuMSSM and Their Detection at the LHC

Within the $ν$MSSM, a Minimal Supersymmetric neutrino See-saw Model, Lepton Flavour Violating Higgs couplings are strongly enhanced at large $\tanβ$ ($\gsim30$), which can lead to BR$(H^0/A^0 \to τμ) \simeq O(10^{-4})$, for $M_{H^0/A^0}\gsim 160$ GeV. Enhancements on the production of Higgs bosons, through the gluon fusion mechanism, $gg\to H^0/A^0$, and the associated production channel $gg,q\bar q\to b\bar bH^0/A^0$, whose rates grow with $\tanβ$, as well as the mass degeneracy that occurs between the $H^0$ and $A^0$ states in this regime, also contribute to further the possibilities to detect a heavy Higgs signal into $τμ$ pairs. We show that the separation of $τμ$ Higgs events from the background at the upcoming CERN Large Hadron Collider could be done for Higgs masses up to about 600 GeV for 300 fb$^{-1}$ of luminosity, for large $\tanβ$ values. However, even with as little as 10 fb$^{-1}$ one can probe $H^0/A^0$ masses up to 400 GeV or so, if $\tanβ=60$. Altogether, these processes then provide a new Higgs discovery mode as well as an independent test of flavour physics.

Top off the unparticle

The existence of an exactly scale invariant sector possessing a non-trivial infrared fixed point at a higher energy scale and its possible communication with the Standard Model particles through a heavy messenger sector has been shown to lead to curious unparticle effects. We demonstrate that top physics at the Tevatron can already constrain such theories. We also consider possible improvements at the LHC and delineate some striking signatures.

Unparticles and Muon Decay

Recently Georgi has discussed the possible existence of `Unparticles' describable by operators having non-integral scaling dimensions. With the interaction of these with the Standard Model (SM) particles being constrained only by gauge and Lorentz symmetries, it affords a new source for lepton flavour violation. Current and future muon decay experiments are shown to be very sensitive to such scenarios.

LHC signals of T-odd heavy quarks in the Littlest Higgs model

Recently proposed Little Higgs models present a viable solution to the naturalness problem of the Standard Model. An additional discrete symmetry, called T-parity, has been included in the simplest Little Higgs models to evade the constraints arising from electroweak precision data. The Littlest Higgs model with T-parity (LHT) not only predicts a set of new fermions in addition to the heavy gauge bosons of the original Little Higgs model, but also provides a new candidate for dark matter. In this paper, we study two particularly interesting signatures of T-odd fermion pair production at the LHC, namely, (a) jj + l^+ l^- + missing E_T and (b) jj + b \bar b + l^\pm + missing E_T. Using a parton level Monte Carlo event generator, we evaluate both the signal as well as the standard model background profile for a selected set of model parameters thereby developing a good discriminator. Finally, we scan the parameter space and delineate the possible discovery region in the same.

Probing the CP-violating light neutral Higgs in the charged Higgs decay at the LHC

The CP-violating MSSM allows existence of a light neutral Higgs boson ($M_{H_1} \lapp 50$ GeV) in the CPX scenario in the low $\tan β(\lapp 5)$ region, which could have escaped the LEP searches due to a strongly suppressed $H_1 Z Z$ coupling. This parameter space corresponds to a relatively light $H^\pm$ ($M_{H^\pm} < M_t$), which is predicted to decay dominantly into the $W H_1$ channel. Thus one expects to see a striking $t \bar t$ signal at the LHC, where one of the top quarks decays into the $bb \bar b W$ channel, via $t \to b H^\pm, H^\pm \to W H_1$ and $H_1 \to b \bar b$. The characteristic correlation between the $b \bar b$, $b \bar b W$ and $b b \bar b W$ invariant mass peaks is expected to make this signal practically free of the SM background. Our parton level Monte Carlo simulation yields upto 5000 events, for ${\cal L} = 30$ fb$^{-1}$, over the parameter space of interest, after taking into account the b-tagging efficiency for three or more b-tagged jets.

Probing the light neutral Higgs boson scenario of the CP-violating MSSM Higgs sector at the LHC

In the CP-violating Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), for certain values of the CP-violating phases associated to the universal trilinear couplings $(A_t, A_b)$ and the gluino mass $(M_{\tilde g})$, e.g., $Φ_{\rm{CP}} = 60^\circ$ or $90^\circ$, for $M_{H^+} \lsim 140 $ GeV and $\tan β\sim 2-5 $, the lightest Higgs boson mass ($M_{H_1}$) is $\lsim 50 $ GeV. This mass interval is still allowed from standard LEP Higgs searches because of a strongly suppressed $H_1ZZ$ coupling. However, in the same region of parameter space in which these two conditions occur, the $H_1 H^\mp W^\pm $ coupling is enhanced because the two mentioned sets of couplings satisfy a sum rule. In this paper we probe such a light Higgs scenario at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by studying $H^\pm H_1$ associate production, leading to a $4b + \ell^\pm + \mET $ signal. We show that the latter is readily accessible at the CERN hadron collider, upon the application of suitable selection cuts against the Standard Model (SM) backgrounds. Our parton level Monte Carlo (MC) analysis yields $\sim 15-45 $ signal events, completely free of SM background, for ${\cal L} = 10-30 {\rm fb}^{-1}$ of accumulated luminosity, after taking into account the overall efficiency for tagging four $b$-jets.

Constraints on New Physics from $K \to πν\barν$

We study constraints on new physics from the recent measurement of Br ($K^+ \to π^+ ν\bar ν)$ by the E787 and E949 Collaborations. In our analysis we consider two models of new physics: $(a)$ extra down type singlet quark model (EDSQ) and $(b)$ R-parity violating Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model(MSSM). We find that $K^+\to π^+ ν\bar ν$ along with other processes like $K_L \to μ^+ μ^-, ε^\prime/ε$ provide useful bounds on the parameter $U_{sd}$, characterizing the off-diagonal $Z-d-\bar s $ coupling of model $(a)$. The bounds on the ${\rm Re}(U_{sd})$ from $(K_L \to μ^+μ^-)_{\rm SD}$ and ${\rm Im}(U_{sd})$ from $ε^\prime/ε$ are so tight that the branching ratio of $K^+\to π^+ ν\bar ν$ can exceed the standard model value by at most a factor of two For model b), we also obtain stringent bounds on certain combinations of product of two $\lp_{ijk}$ couplings originating from $L$ number violating operator $ L_i Q_j D^c_k $ using $K^+ \to π^+ ν\bar ν$ and $K_L \to μ^+ μ^-$ processes. Even with the stringent constraints on $U_{sd}$ (in model $(a)$) and on products of two $\rp$couplings (model $(b)$), we find that the branching ratios for $K_L \to π^0 ν\bar ν$ and $K_L \to π^0 e^+ e^-$ can be substantially different in both the above models from those predicted in the standard model.

CP violating SUSY effects in Penguin dominated modes B -> PHI K and B -> PHI K*

Recent measurement of time dependent asymmetries in $B \to ϕK$ are indicative of a new source of CP violation. We examine squark mixing in SUSY as this new source, and using QCD improved factorization method to describe $B \to ϕK $ decay, find the allowed range of parameter space for $ρ$ and $ψ$, the magnitude and phase of the down type LR(RL) squark mixing parameter $δ^{bs}_{LR(RL)}$. We then study $B \to ϕK^{*}$ and calculate the expected CP asymmetries in the same range of parameter space. We find that this asymmetry is in the range 15% to $20% $ for acceptable value of $B \to phi K^{*}$ branching ratio. We also predict the helicity dependent CP asymmetries in the same parameter space.

Constraints on Supersymmetric Flavor Changing Parameters Using B->PP Decays

We study contributions of quark-squark-gluino interactions in Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) to B->PP (PP =Kpi, pipi, KK) decays using QCD improved factorization method for the evaluation of the hadronic matrix elements and taking into account renormalization group running of the Wilson coefficients from SUSY scale (~ m_{\tilde q}) to the low energy scale (= m_b) applicable to B decays. Using the most recent experimental data we obtain constraints on flavor changing Supersymmetric (SUSY) parameters (δ_{ij})_{LL, RR}. For ΔS = -1 processes, b-> s gamma is usually considered to give the strongest limits. We, however, find that in some part of the parameter space B-> Kpi processes give stronger bounds. Implications for B^0_s -\bar B^0_s mixing is discussed. We also study cons traints obtained from ΔS = 0 processes B-> pipi, KK, rho gamma and B_d -\bar B_d mixing. In this case, in a large part of the parameter space B_d - \bar B_d provides the best bound, but B-> K^- K^0, rho gamma can still give interesting constraints in a complementary region of the parameter space.

Invisible decays of Higgs and other mesons in models with singlet neutrinos in large extra dimensions

In light of current atmospheric neutrino oscillation data, we revisit the invisible decay of the standard model Higgs boson and other pseudoscalar mesons which can be enhanced because of large number of KK modes in models with right handed singlet neutrinos in large extra dimensions. We find that the invisible decay rate of Higgs can be as large as $H\to b \bar b $ decay rate only for a very restricted region of parameter space. This parameter space is even further restricted if one demands that the dimensionless neutrino Yukawa coupling $ł$ is O(1). We have also studied the scenarios where singlet neutrino propagate in a sub-space, which lowers the string scale $M_{\ast}$ and keeps neutrino Yukawa coupling O(1). We have also considered decays of other spin-0 mesons to $ν\barν$ and found the rates to be too small for measurement.

Higgs pair production in association with a vector boson at e+e- colliders in theories of higher dimensional gravity

The models of large extra compact dimensions, as suggested by Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos and Dvali, predict exciting phenomenological consequences with gravitational interactions becoming strong at the TeV scale. Such theories can be tested at the existing and future colliders. In this paper, we study the contribution of virtual Kaluza-Klein excitations (both spin-0 and 2) in the process $e^+e^- \to HHZ$ and $ e^+e^- \to HHγ$ at future linear collider (NLC). We find that the virtual exchange KK gravitons can modify the cross-section $σ(e^+e^- \to HHZ)$ significantly from its Standard Model value and will allow the effective string scale to be probed up to 6.6 TeV. The second process is absent at the tree level in the standard model, and can therefore be used to put limits on the effective string scale of 7.4 TeV.

Triplet Higgs boson at hadron colliders

The novel feature of a Higgs-triplet representation is a nonzero tree-level coupling of $H^+ W^- Z$, which is absent in all Higgs-doublet models. We study the associated production of a singly-charged Higgs boson of the Higgs-triplet representation with a $W$ or $Z$ boson at hadron colliders, followed by the $H^+ \to W^+ Z$ decay. We find that the $2\ell+4j$ final state gives an interesting level of signal with a negligible background, plus it allows a full mass reconstruction of the charged-Higgs boson. The cover range of the charged-Higgs mass is between 110 and 200 GeV.
