Quaternionic contact Einstein structures and the quaternionic contact Yamabe problem

A partial solution of the quaternionic contact Yamabe problem on the quaternionic sphere is given. It is shown that the torsion of the Biquard connection vanishes exactly when the trace-free part of the horizontal Ricci tensor of the Biquard connection is zero and this occurs precisely on 3-Sasakian manifolods. All conformal deformations sending the standard flat torsion-free quaternionic contact structure on the quaternionic Heisenberg group to a quaternionic contact structure with vanishing torsion of the Biquard connection are explicitly described. A '3-Hamiltonian form' of infinitesimal conformal automorphisms of quaternionic contact structures is presented.

Quaternionic Kaehler and Spin(7) metrics arising from quaternionic contact Einstein structures

We construct left invariant quaternionic contact (qc) structures on Lie groups with zero and non-zero torsion and with non-vanishing quaternionic contact conformal curvature tensor, thus showing the existence of non-flat quaternionic contact manifolds. We prove that the product of the real line with a seven dimensional manifold, equipped with a certain qc structure, has a quaternionic Kaehler metric as well as a metric with holonomy contained in Spin(7). As a consequence we determine explicit quaternionic Kaehler metrics and Spin(7)-holonomy metrics which seem to be new. Moreover, we give explicit non-compact eight dimensional almost quaternion hermitian manifolds with either a closed fundamental four form or fundamental two forms defining a differential ideal that are not quaternionic Kaehler.

Quaternionic contact manifolds with a closed fundamental 4-form

We show that the fundamental 4-form on a quaternionic contact manifold of dimension at least eleven is closed if and only if the torsion endomorphism of the Biquard connection vanishes. This condition characterizes quaternionic contact structures which are locally qc homothetic to 3-Sasakian structures.

Conformal quaternionic contact curvature and the local sphere theorem

A tensor invariant is defined on a quaternionic contact manifold in terms of the curvature and torsion of the Biquard connection involving derivatives up to third order of the contact form. This tensor, called quaternionic contact conformal curvature, is similar to the Weyl conformal curvature in Riemannian geometry and to the Chern-Moser tensor in CR geometry. It is shown that a quaternionic contact manifold is locally quaternionic contact conformal to the standard flat quaternionic contact structure on the quaternionic Heisenberg group, or equivalently, to the standard 3-sasakian structure on the sphere iff the quaternionic contact conformal curvature vanishes.

Explicit Quaternionic Contact Structures and Metrics with Special Holonomy

We construct explicit left invariant quaternionic contact structures on Lie groups with zero and non-zero torsion, and with non-vanishing quaternionic contact conformal curvature tensor, thus showing the existence of quaternionic contact manifolds not locally quaternionic contact conformal to the quaternionic sphere. We present a left invariant quaternionic contact structure on a seven dimensional non-nilpotent Lie group, and show that this structure is locally quaternionic contact conformal to the flat quaternionic contact structure on the quaternionic Heisenberg group. On the product of a seven dimensional Lie group, equipped with a quaternionic contact structure, with the real line we determine explicit complete quaternionic Kaehhler metrics and $Spin(7)$-holonomy metrics which seem to be new. We give explicit complete non-compact eight dimensional almost quaternion hermitian manifolds with closed fundamental four form which are not quaternionic Kähler.

Conformal paracontact curvature and the local flatness theorem

A curvature-type tensor invariant called para contact (pc) conformal curvature is defined on a paracontact manifold. It is shown that a paracontact manifold is locally paracontact conformal to the hyperbolic Heisenberg group or to a hyperquadric of neutral signature if and only if the pc conformal curvature vanishes. In the three dimensional case the corresponding result is achieved through employing a certain symmetric (0,2) tensor. The well known result of Cartan-Chern-Moser giving necessary and sufficient condition a CR-structure to be CR equivalent to a hyperquadric in the complex vector space is presented in-line with the paracontact case. An explicit formula for the regular part of a solution to the sub-ultrahyperbolic Yamabe equation on the hyperbolic Heisenberg group is shown.

Lp estimates and asymptotic behavior for finite energy solutions of extremals to Hardy-Sobolev inequalities

Motivated by the equation satisfied by the extremals of certain Hardy-Sobolev type inequalities, we show sharp $L^q$ regularity for finite energy solutions of p-laplace equations involving critical exponents and possible singularity on a sub-space of $\mathbb{R}^n$, which imply asymptotic behavior of the solutions at infinity. In addition, we find the best constant and extremals in the case of the considered $L^2$ Hardy-Sobolev inequality.
