Gamified Requirement Elicitation for a Multi-Modal Decision Support System. The Case of SYNCHROMODE

SYNCHROMODE is a Horizon Europe project that aims to develop a data-driven ICT toolbox for improving the management of transport operations from a multimodal perspective. This is, in essence, a multimodal decision support system that will take the form of interconnected pieces of software. Developing complex systems requires careful planning and management. Their "life cycle" consists of several phases, starting with the critical stage of requirement elicitation, which establishes the system's foundational needs and expectations. This paper focuses on the requirement elicitation phase of core interconnected services that are to be offered through the SYNCHROMODE toolbox. Elicitation is achieved both through traditional methods and specifically through the use of use cases as well as through the use of gamification. During the design phase of the toolbox and as a result of the use cases a set of predefined requirements were identified. Moreover, a requirement elicitation serious game was designed and developed. Subsequently, the game was presented in person during a physical workshop, which took place in Thessaloniki in October 2023, to a diverse range of stakeholders, including experts in traffic management, public transport authorities, MaaS providers, first responders, ITS technology providers, and local authorities. Both requirement elicitation processes are summarized in the context of this paper. Finally, the requirements generated through traditional means and through gamification are then analyzed and compared.

Assessing the Readiness of Greece for Autonomous Vehicle Technologies

Despite the debate regarding the timeframe and rate of penetration of Autonomous Vehicles, their potential benefits and implications have been widely recognized. Therefore, assessing the readiness of individual countries to adopt such technologies and adapt to their introduction is of particular importance. This paper aims to enrich our understanding of EU readiness regarding the introduction of autonomous vehicle technologies by assessing the case of Greece. Thus, through a literature review, the criteria upon which such an assessment should be based are established and analyzed. Subsequently, the case of Greece is assessed based on those criteria by finding relevant sources that support and justify any assessment. Regardless of the outcome concerning the readiness of Greece, such an assessment should help identify areas in which focus should be given in order to ensure a smoother transition to such technologies. This contribution is expected to assist policy makers in Greece.

Enabling older citizens safe mobility. The ACTIVAGE approach

We live in an ever-aging world. The percentage of older citizens increases in modern societies as older citizens represent the 19.20% of the general population. In Greece, an increase of almost 7% of older citizens has been observed in the last twenty years. As old age never comes alone, age-related impairments should be considered in the effort to provide safe transport conditions for them. It is of importance that transportation services have to meet the special requirements and needs of older citizens. European Union, through the ACTIVAGE project, aims at using the Internet of Things (IoT) solutions in favor of older citizens. In the framework of this project, the ACTIVAGE Safe Mobility Platform (ASMP) has been designed. Therefore, older citizens and their relatives have access to information regarding their travels. In the context of this study, an extensive description of the ASMP and the services offered through it is provided.

Overview of C-ITS Deployment Projects in Europe and USA

Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS) are technologies that enable vehicles to communicate with each other and with the road infrastructure. These innovative technologies enable road users and traffic managers to share useful information, assisting the coordination of their actions. During the last years various initiatives providing policy rules for C-ITS deployment and a large number of projects demonstrating C-ITS implementation have taken place in Europe and USA. However, the identification of the status of C-ITS deployment remains ambiguous at binational level. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the European and US milestones, that have been reached so far in the field of C-ITS, by identifying and reporting the policy framework, as well as the projects concerning C-ITS deployment in Europe and USA.
