When NOMA Meets AIGC: Enhanced Wireless Federated Learning

Wireless federated learning (WFL) enables devices to collaboratively train a global model via local model training, uploading and aggregating. However, WFL faces the data scarcity/heterogeneity problem (i.e., data are limited and unevenly distributed among devices) that degrades the learning performance. In this regard, artificial intelligence generated content (AIGC) can synthesize various types of data to compensate for the insufficient local data. Nevertheless, downloading synthetic data or uploading local models iteratively takes a lot of time, especially for a large amount of devices. To address this issue, we propose to leverage non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) to achieve efficient synthetic data and local model transmission. This paper is the first to combine AIGC and NOMA with WFL to maximally enhance the learning performance. For the proposed NOMA+AIGC-enhanced WFL, the problem of jointly optimizing the synthetic data distribution, two-way communication and computation resource allocation to minimize the global learning error is investigated. The problem belongs to NP-hard mixed integer nonlinear programming, whose optimal solution is intractable to find. We first employ the block coordinate descent method to decouple the complicated-coupled variables, and then resort to our analytical method to derive an efficient low-complexity local optimal solution with partial closed-form results. Extensive simulations validate the superiority of the proposed scheme compared to the existing and benchmark schemes such as the frequency/time division multiple access based AIGC-enhanced schemes.

Ultrafast imaging of polariton propagation and interactions

Semiconductor excitations can hybridize with cavity photons to form exciton-polaritons (EPs) with remarkable properties, including light-like energy flow combined with matter-like interactions. To fully harness these properties, EPs must retain ballistic, coherent transport despite matter-mediated interactions with lattice phonons. Here we develop a nonlinear momentum-resolved optical approach that directly images EPs in real space on femtosecond scales in a range of polaritonic architectures. We focus our analysis on EP propagation in layered halide perovskite microcavities. We reveal that EP-phonon interactions lead to a large renormalization of EP velocities at high excitonic fractions at room temperature. Despite these strong EP-phonon interactions, ballistic transport is maintained for up to half-exciton EPs, in agreement with quantum simulations of dynamic disorder shielding through light-matter hybridization. Above 50% excitonic character, rapid decoherence leads to diffusive transport. Our work provides a general framework to precisely balance EP coherence, velocity, and nonlinear interactions.

Microscopic Theory of Multimode Polariton Dispersion in Multilayered Materials

We develop a microscopic theory for the multimode polariton dispersion in materials coupled to cavity radiation modes. Starting from a microscopic light-matter Hamiltonian, we devise a general strategy for obtaining simple matrix models of polariton dispersion curves based on the structure and spatial location of multi-layered 2D materials inside the optical cavity. Our theory exposes the connections between seemingly distinct models that have been employed in the literature and resolves an ambiguity that has arisen concerning the experimental description of the polaritonic band structure. We demonstrate the applicability of our theoretical formalism by fabricating various geometries of multi-layered perovskite materials coupled to cavities and demonstrating that our theoretical predictions agree with the experimental results presented here.

Detection of $δ$ Scuti pulsators in the eclipsing binaries observed by TESS

Based on 2-minute cadence TESS data from sectors 1-50, we report the results of the systematic extraction of $δ$ Scuti-type pulsations in the 6431 eclipsing binaries with orbital periods shorter than 13 days. A total number of 242 pulsators were found in those systems, including 143 new discoveries. We examined their pulsation properties based on the H-R diagram and the relationships between the dominant pulsation period $P_{\rm dom}$, orbital period $P_{\rm orb}$, and effective temperature $T_{\rm eff}$. As a consequence, 216 targets are likely $δ$ Scuti stars (123 new), 11 likely $γ$ Doradus-$δ$ Scuti hybrid stars (8 new), 5 likely $β$ Cephei stars (4 new), 4 likely $δ$ Scuti-$γ$ Doradus hybrid stars (3 new), 3 likely Maia stars (3 new), 2 likely pulsating red giants (1 new), and a new unclassified star. As for the 6 new $δ$ Scuti pulsators in eclipsing binaries with $P_{\rm orb}$ $<$ 0.65 days, we found that 3 of them significantly exceed the upper limits of the $P_{\rm dom}$/$P_{\rm orb}$ ratio. This may indicate that $P_{\rm dom}$ and $P_{\rm orb}$ are uncorrelated for them. Finally, we statistically analyzed the dominant pulsation periods of the 216 $δ$ Scuti stars in eclipsing binaries. Those stars concentrate around 225 $μ$Hz and the proportion of stars in the high-frequency region is significantly higher than that of single stars, which could be ascribed to the mass transfer process.

Dark-exciton driven energy funneling into dielectric inhomogeneities in two-dimensional semiconductors

The optoelectronic and transport properties of two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide semiconductors (2D TMDs) are highly susceptible to external perturbation, enabling precise tailoring of material function through post-synthetic modifications. Here we show that nanoscale inhomogeneities known as nanobubbles can be used for both strain and, less invasively, dielectric tuning of exciton transport in bilayer tungsten disulfide (WSe2). We use ultrasensitive spatiotemporally resolved optical scattering microscopy to directly image exciton transport, revealing that dielectric nanobubbles are surprisingly efficient at funneling and trapping excitons at room temperature, even though the energies of the bright excitons are negligibly affected. Our observations suggest that exciton funneling in dielectric inhomogeneities is driven by momentum-indirect (dark) excitons whose energies are more sensitive to dielectric perturbations than bright excitons. These results reveal a new pathway to control exciton transport in 2D semiconductors with exceptional spatial and energetic precision using dielectric engineering of dark state energetic landscapes.

Resource Allocation for Secure Communications in Cooperative Cognitive Wireless Powered Communication Networks

We consider a cognitive wireless powered communication network (CWPCN) sharing the spectrum with a primary network who faces security threats from eavesdroppers (EAVs). We propose a new cooperative protocol for the wireless powered secondary users (SU) to cooperate with the primary user (PU). In the protocol, the SUs first harvest energy from the power signals transmitted by the cognitive hybrid access point during the wireless power transfer (WPT) phase, and then use the harvested energy to interfere with the EAVs and gain transmission opportunities at the same time during the wireless information transfer (WIT) phase. Taking the maximization of the SU ergodic rate as the design objective, resource allocation algorithms based on the dual optimization method and the block coordinate descent method are proposed for the cases of perfect channel state information (CSI) and collusive/non-collusive EAVs under the PU secrecy constraint. More PU favorable greedy algorithms aimed at minimizing the PU secrecy outage probability are also proposed. We furthermore consider the unknown EAVs' CSI case and propose an efficient algorithm to improve the PU security performance. Extensive simulations show that our proposed protocol and corresponding resource allocation algorithms can not only let the SU gain transmission opportunities but also improve the PU security performance even with unknown EAVs' CSI.
