Algebraic entropy of (integrable) lattice equations and their reductions

We study the growth of degrees in many autonomous and non-autonomous lattice equations defined by quad rules with corner boundary values, some of which are known to be integrable by other characterisations. Subject to an enabling conjecture, we prove polynomial growth for a large class of equations which includes the Adler-Bobenko-Suris equations and Viallet's $Q_V$ and its non-autonomous generalization. Our technique is to determine the ambient degree growth of the projective version of the lattice equations and to conjecture the growth of their common factors at each lattice vertex, allowing the true degree growth to be found. The resulting degrees satisfy a linear partial difference equation which is universal, i.e. the same for all the integrable lattice equations considered. When we take periodic reductions of these equations, which includes staircase initial conditions, we obtain from this linear partial difference equation an ordinary difference equation for degrees that implies quadratic or linear degree growth. We also study growth of degree of several non-integrable lattice equations. Exponential growth of degrees of these equations, and their mapping reductions, is also proved subject to a conjecture.

Darboux integrability of determinant and equations for principal minors

We consider equations that represent a constancy condition for a 2D Wronskian, mixed Wronskian-Casoratian and 2D Casoratian. These determinantal equations are shown to have the number of independent integrals equal to their order - this implies Darboux integrability. On the other hand, the recurrent formulas for the leading principal minors are equivalent to the 2D Toda equation and its semi-discrete and lattice analogues with particular boundary conditions (cut-off constraints). This connection is used to obtain recurrent formulas and closed-form expressions for integrals of the Toda-type equations from the integrals of the determinantal equations. General solutions of the equations corresponding to vanishing determinants are given explicitly while in the non-vanishing case they are given in terms of solutions of ordinary linear equations.

A Lax pair of a lattice equation whose entropy vanishes

In this paper, we present multi parametric quadgraph equations which are consistent around the cube. These equations are obtained by applying a `double twist' to known integrable equations. Furthermore, we perform a limit to one of these equations to derive the non-symmetric equation which is given by Hietarinta and Viallet. As a result, we obtain a novel Lax pair of this equation.

Involutivity of integrals for sine-Gordon, modified KdV and potential KdV maps

Closed form expressions in terms of multi-sums of products have been given in \cite{Tranclosedform, KRQ} of integrals of sine-Gordon, modified Korteweg-de Vries and potential Korteweg-de Vries maps obtained as so-called $(p,-1)$-traveling wave reductions of the corresponding partial difference equations. We prove the involutivity of these integrals with respect to recently found symplectic structures for those maps. The proof is based on explicit formulae for the Poisson brackets between multi-sums of products.
