Existence of weak solutions to stationary mean-field games through variational inequalities

Here, we consider stationary monotone mean-field games (MFGs) and study the existence of weak solutions. First, we introduce a regularized problem that preserves the monotonicity. Next, using variational inequalities techniques, we prove the existence of solutions to the regularized problem. Then, using Minty's method, we establish the existence of solutions for the original MFG. Finally, we examine the properties of these weak solutions in several examples. Our methods provide a general framework to construct weak solutions to stationary MFGs with local, nonlocal, or congestion terms.

Existence of positive solutions for an approximation of stationary mean-field games

Here, we consider a regularized mean-field game model that features a low-order regularization. We prove the existence of solutions with positive density. To do so, we combine a priori estimates with the continuation method. In contrast with high-order regularizations, the low-order regularizations are easier to implement numerically. Moreover, our methods give a theoretical foundation for this approach.

Two numerical approaches to stationary mean-field games

Here, we consider numerical methods for stationary mean-field games (MFG) and investigate two classes of algorithms. The first one is a gradient-flow method based on the variational characterization of certain MFG. The second one uses monotonicity properties of MFG. We illustrate our methods with various examples, including one-dimensional periodic MFG, congestion problems, and higher-dimensional models.

A mean-field game economic growth model

Here, we examine a mean-field game (MFG) that models the economic growth of a population of non-cooperative rational agents. In this MFG, agents are described by two state variables - the capital and consumer goods they own. Each agent seeks to maximize their utility by taking into account statistical data of the total population. The individual actions drive the evolution of the players, and a market-clearing condition determines the relative price of capital and consumer goods. We study the existence and uniqueness of optimal strategies of the agents and develop numerical methods to compute these strategies and the equilibrium price.

An infinite-dimensional Weak KAM theory via random variables

We develop several aspects of the infinite-dimensional Weak KAM theory using a random variables' approach. We prove that the infinite-dimensional cell problem admits a viscosity solution that is a fixed point of the Lax-Oleinik semigroup. Furthermore, we show the existence of invariant minimizing measures and calibrated curves defined on R.

Short-time existence of solutions for mean-field games with congestion

We consider time-dependent mean-field games with congestion that are given by a system of a Hamilton-Jacobi equation coupled with a Fokker-Planck equation. The congestion effects make the Hamilton-Jacobi equation singular. These models are motivated by crowd dynamics where agents have difficulty moving in high-density areas. Uniqueness of classical solutions for this problem is well understood. However, existence of classical solutions, was only known in very special cases - stationary problems with quadratic Hamiltonians and some time-dependent explicit examples. Here, we prove short-time existence of $C^\infty$ solutions in the case of sub-quadratic Hamiltonians.

Obstacle Mean-Field Game Problem

In this paper, we introduce and study a first-order mean-field game obstacle problem. We examine the case of local dependence on the measure under assumptions that include both the logarithmic case and power-like nonlinearities. Since the obstacle operator is not differentiable, the equations for first-order mean field game problems have to be discussed carefully. Hence, we begin by considering a penalized problem. We prove this problem admits a unique solution satisfying uniform bounds. These bounds serve to pass to the limit in the penalized problem and to characterize the limiting equations. Finally, we prove uniqueness of solutions.

A new method for large time behavior of degenerate viscous Hamilton--Jacobi equations with convex Hamiltonians

We introduce a new machinery to study the large time behavior for general classes of Hamilton--Jacobi type equations, which include degenerate parabolic equations and weakly coupled systems. We establish the convergence results by using the nonlinear adjoint method and identifying new long time averaging effects. These methods are robust and can easily be adapted to study the large time behavior of related problems.

Adjoint methods for obstacle problems and weakly coupled systems of PDE

The adjoint method, recently introduced by Evans, is used to study obstacle problems, weakly coupled systems, cell problems for weakly coupled systems of Hamilton-Jacobi equations, and weakly coupled systems of obstacle type. In particular, new results about the speed of convergence of common approximation procedures are derived.

Aubry-Mather measures in the non convex setting

The adjoint method introduced in [Eva] and [Tra] is used, to construct analogs to the Aubry-Mather measures for non convex Hamiltonians. More precisely, a general construction of probability measures, that in the convex setting agree with Mather measures, is provided. These measures may fail to be invariant under the Hamiltonian flow and a dissipation arises, which is described by a positive semidefinite matrix of Borel measures. However, in the important case of uniformly quasiconvex Hamiltonians the dissipation vanishes, and as a consequence the invariance is guaranteed.
