Rotation modified QCD equation of state across crossover at finite chemical potential

It is well-established that at low baryon chemical potential, the transition from the confined hadronic phase to the deconfined partonic phase is a smooth crossover rather than a first or second-order phase transition. We develop a thermodynamically consistent hybrid equation of state to study the effect of global rotation on the equation of state across the QCD crossover that interpolates the hadronic and partonic phases. The temperature dependence of normalized thermodynamic observables, such as entropy density ($s/T^3$), pressure ($P/T^4$), energy density ($\varepsilon/T^4$), specific heat ($C_V/T^3$), and the square of speed of sound ($c_s^2$) in presence of rotation are investigated. The effect of non-zero chemical potential on thermodynamic quantities in presence of rotation is also studied. Our results show that increasing chemical potential enhances the thermodynamic quantities, whereas rotation suppresses them in the crossover region. Further, we investigate the effect of rotation on the conserved numbers susceptibilities and their correlations as a function of temperature. The susceptibilities and their correlations exhibit a systematic enhancement with increase in rotation in both the hadronic and partonic phases. These findings provide new insights into the interplay between rotation and QCD thermodynamics, which can have important implications for rapidly rotating strongly interacting matter produced in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Conserved number fluctuations under global rotation in a hadron resonance gas model

Net-baryon number, net-charge and net-strangeness fluctuations measured in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions may reveal details and insights into the quark-hadron transition, hadrochemical freeze-out and possibly aid in the search of the QCD critical point. By scanning in collision energy, current and upcoming heavy-ion facilities aim to explore the finite density regime where the critical point may lie. Effects due to rotation are also expected in case of peripheral collisions and we report on conserved number susceptibilities as calculated in the hadron resonance gas model augmented by a global angular velocity. Since these quantities are directly related to the experimentally measurable moments of the corresponding distributions our results show the possible impact of vorticity on the theoretical baseline and should be useful for referencing with experimental data and QCD-based calculations.

PHOTON-2017 conference proceedings

This document collects the proceedings of the PHOTON 2017 conference ("International Conference on the Structure and the Interactions of the Photon", including the 22th "International Workshop on Photon-Photon Collisions", and the "International Workshop on High Energy Photon Colliders") held at CERN (Geneva) in May 2017. The latest experimental and theoretical developments on the topics of the PHOTON conference series are covered: (i) $γ\,γ$ processes in e$^+$e$^-$, proton-proton (pp) and nucleus-nucleus (AA) collisions at current and future colliders, (ii) $γ$-hadron interactions in e$^\pm$p, pp, and AA collisions, (iii) final-state photon production (including Standard Model studies and searches beyond it) in pp and AA collisions, and (iv) high-energy $γ$-ray astrophysics. These proceedings are dedicated to the memory of Maria Krawczyk.

Photoproduction of Upsilon in Ultraperipheral Collisions at LHC Run2 energies

The exclusive $Υ$ photoproduction in ultraperipheral proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at LHC energies is being investigated using pQCD framework which constrain the gluon distribution in the proton and nuclei at low $x$. Rapidity distributions of $Υ$ photoproduction with different gluon distribution parameterization and gluon shadowing for nuclear PDFs including photon flux suppression for strong interaction, are being presented at LHC energies. Predictions done for ultraperipheral collisions at $\sqrt s$=$8.16$ TeV in pPb, and at $\sqrt s$=$5.02$ TeV in PbPb collisions which are LHC Run 2 Heavy Ion collision scenario and measurements of cross-section will be available soon.

Exclusive Photoproduction of Upsilon in pPb collisions with the CMS

Results of exclusive photoproduction of Upsilon states in Ultraperipheral collisions (UPC) of protons and ions with the CMS experiment are presented, which provides a clean probe of the gluon distribution at small values of parton fractional momenta $x \approx 10^{-2} 10^{4}$ at central rapidities (|y| $< 2.5$). The three Upsilon states (1S, 2S, 3S) are measured in the dimuon decay channel along with the photon-photon decaying to dimuon QED continuum at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02$~TeV for integrated luminosity of $L_{int} = 35$ nb$^{-1}$. The total Upsilon photoproduction cross sections at different photon-proton center of mass energy $W_{γp}$ and t-differential distributions are presented and compared with other experimental results as well as theoretical predictions.

Minimum Bias, MPI and DPS, Diffractive and Exclusive measurements at CMS

We present recent results on Minimum Bias, MPI and DPS, Diffractive and Exclusive studies using data collected during Run 1 of the LHC. The measurements include data collected in pp collisions at $\sqrt s = 7$, and $8$ TeV by the CMS Collaboration. Double parton scattering is investigated in several final states including vector bosons and jets, and the effective cross section results are compared to other experiments and to MPI models tuned to recent underlying event measurements at CMS. Inclusive diffractive cross sections are discussed and compared to models, while searches and measurements of central exclusive processes are presented. The results from the first combined measurement by the CMS+TOTEM collaborations of the pseudorapidity distribution of charged particles at 8 TeV are also discussed, and are compared to models and to lower energy measurements.

High-mass dimuon resonances in Pb-Pb collisions at 5.5 TeV in CMS

The measurement of the charmonium ($J/ψ$, $ψ'$) and bottomonium ($Υ$, $Υ'$, ${Υ''}$) resonances and $Z^0$ boson in nucleus-nucleus collisions provides crucial information on high density QCD matter. The observation of anomalous suppression of $J/ψ$ at the CERN-SPS and RHIC is well established but the clarification of some important questions requires equivalent studies of the $Υ$ family, only possible at LHC energies. The $Z^0$ boson will be produced for the first time in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC and, since its dominant production channel is through $q{\bar q}$ fusion, it is an excellent probe of the nuclear modification of quark distribution functions. This paper reports the capabilities of the CMS detector to study quarkonium and $Z^0$ production in Pb-Pb collisions at 5.5 TeV, through the dimuon decay channel.
