Cotilting sheaves over weighted noncommutative regular projective curves

We consider the category $\operatorname{Qcoh}\mathbb{X}$ of quasicoherent sheaves where $\mathbb{X}$ is a weighted noncommutative regular projective curve over a field $k$. This category is a hereditary, locally noetherian Grothendieck category. We classify all indecomposable pure-injective sheaves and all cotilting sheaves of slope $\infty$. In the cases of nonnegative orbifold Euler characteristic this leads to a classification of pure-injective indecomposable sheaves and a description of all large cotilting sheaves in $\operatorname{Qcoh}\mathbb{X}$.

Weighted noncommutative regular projective curves

Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a noncommutative regular projective curve over a perfect field $k$. We study global and local properties of the Auslander-Reiten translation $τ$ and give an explicit description of the complete local rings, with the involvement of $τ$. We introduce the $τ$-multiplicity $e_τ(x)$, the order of $τ$ as a functor restricted to the tube concentrated in $x$. We obtain a local-global principle for the (global) skewness $s(\mathcal{H})$, defined as the square root of the dimension of the function (skew-) field over its centre. In the case of genus zero we show how the ghost group, that is, the group of automorphisms of $\mathcal{H}$ which fix all objects, is determined by the points $x$ with $e_τ(x)>1$. Based on work of Witt we describe the noncommutative regular (smooth) projective curves over the real numbers; those with $s(\mathcal{H})=2$ we call Witt curves. In particular, we study noncommutative elliptic curves, and present an elliptic Witt curve which is a noncommutative Fourier-Mukai partner of the Klein bottle. If $\mathcal{H}$ is weighted, our main result will be formulae for the orbifold Euler characteristic, involving the weights and the $τ$-multiplicities. As an application we will classify the noncommutative $2$-orbifolds of nonnegative Euler characteristic, that is, the real elliptic, domestic and tubular curves. Throughout, many explicit examples are discussed.

Large tilting sheaves over weighted noncommutative regular projective curves

Let $\mathbb{X}$ be a weighted noncommutative regular projective curve over a field $k$. The category $\operatorname{Qcoh}\mathbb{X}$ of quasicoherent sheaves is a hereditary, locally noetherian Grothendieck category. We classify all tilting sheaves which have a non-coherent torsion subsheaf. In case of nonnegative orbifold Euler characteristic we classify all large (that is, non-coherent) tilting sheaves and the corresponding resolving classes. In particular we show that in the elliptic and in the tubular cases every large tilting sheaf has a well-defined slope.

Tilting and cotilting modules over concealed canonical algebras

We study infinite dimensional tilting modules over a concealed canonical algebra of domestic or tubular type. In the domestic case, such tilting modules are constructed by using the technique of universal localization, and they can be interpreted in terms of Gabriel localizations of the corresponding category of quasi-coherent sheaves over a noncommutative curve of genus zero. In the tubular case, we have to distinguish between tilting modules of rational and irrational slope. For rational slope the situation is analogous to the domestic case. In contrast, for any irrational slope, there is just one tilting module of that slope up to equivalence. We also provide a dual description of infinite dimensional cotilting modules and a classification result for the indecomposable pure-injective modules.

Extremal properties of concealed-canonical algebras

Canonical algebras, introduced by C.M. Ringel in 1984, play an important role in the representation theory of finite dimensional algebras. They are equipped with a large contact surface to many further mathematical subjects like function theory, 3-manifolds, singularity theory, commutative algebra and algebraic geometry. We show in this paper that canonical algebras are characterized by a number of interesting extremal properties (among the class of endomorphism rings of tilting bundles on a weighted projective line). We also study the corresponding class of algebras antipodal to canonical ones. Our study sheds new insight in the nature of concealed-canonical algebras, and sheds light on an old question: Why are the canonical algebras canonical?

Triangle singularities, ADE-chains, and weighted projective lines

We investigate the triangle singularity $f=x^a+y^b+z^c$, or $S=k[x,y,z]/(f)$, attached to a weighted projective line $X$ given by the weight triple $(a,b,c)$. We investigate the stable category of vector bundles on $X$ obtained from the vector bundles by factoring out all line bundles. This category is triangulated and has Serre duality. It is, moreover, naturally equivalent to the stable category of graded maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules over $S$ (or matrix factorizations of $f$), and then by results of Buchweitz and Orlov to the graded singularity category of $f$. We show that this category is fractional Calabi-Yau with a CY-dimension that is a function of the Euler characteristic of $X$. We show the existence of a tilting object which has the shape of an $(a-1)(b-1)(c-1)$-cuboid. Particular attention is given to the weight types $(2,a,b)$, yielding an explanation of Happel-Seidel symmetry for a class of important Nakayama algebras. In particular, the weight sequence $(2,3,p)$ corresponds to an ADE-chain, the $E_n$-chain, extrapolating the exceptional Dynkin cases $E_6$, $E_7$ and $E_8$ to a whole sequence of triangulated categories.

Nilpotent operators and weighted projective lines

We show a surprising link between singularity theory and the invariant subspace problem of nilpotent operators as recently studied by C. M. Ringel and M. Schmidmeier, a problem with a longstanding history going back to G. Birkhoff. The link is established via weighted projective lines and (stable) categories of vector bundles on those. The setup yields a new approach to attack the subspace problem. In particular, we deduce the main results of Ringel and Schmidmeier for nilpotency degree p from properties of the category of vector bundles on the weighted projective line of weight type (2,3,p), obtained by Serre construction from the triangle singularity x^2+y^3+z^p. For p=6 the Ringel-Schmidmeier classification is thus covered by the classification of vector bundles for tubular type (2,3,6), and then is closely related to Atiyah's classification of vector bundles on a smooth elliptic curve. Returning to the general case, we establish that the stable categories associated to vector bundles or invariant subspaces of nilpotent operators may be naturally identified as triangulated categories. They satisfy Serre duality and also have tilting objects whose endomorphism rings play a role in singularity theory. In fact, we thus obtain a whole sequence of triangulated (fractional) Calabi-Yau categories, indexed by p, which naturally form an ADE-chain.

The cluster category of a canonical algebra

We study the cluster category of a canonical algebra A in terms of the hereditary category of coherent sheaves over the corresponding weighted projective line X. As an application we determine the automorphism group of the cluster category and show that the cluster-tilting objects form a cluster structure in the sense of Buan-Iyama-Reiten-Scott. The tilting graph of the sheaf category always coincides with the tilting or exchange graph of the cluster category. We show that this graph is connected if the Euler characteristic of X is non-negative, or equivalently, if A is of tame (domestic or tubular) representation type.

Parameter curves for the regular representations of tame bimodules

We present results and examples which show that the consideration of a certain tubular mutation is advantageous in the study of noncommutative curves which parametrize the simple regular representations of a tame bimodule. We classify all tame bimodules where such a curve is actually commutative, or in different words, where the unique generic module has a commutative endomorphism ring. This extends results from [14] to arbitrary characteristic; in characteristic two additionally inseparable cases occur. Further results are concerned with autoequivalences fixing all objects but not isomorphic to the identity functor.

The Grothendieck group of a cluster category

For the cluster category of a hereditary or a canonical algebra, equivalently for the cluster category of the hereditary category of coherent sheaves on a weighted projective line, we study the Grothendieck group with respect to an admissible triangulated structure.

Indecomposable representations for extended Dynkin quivers

We describe a method for an explicit determination of indecomposable preprojective and preinjective representations for extended Dynkin quivers by vector spaces and matrices. This method uses tilting theory and the explicit knowledge of indecomposable modules over the corresponding canonical algebra of domestic type.

Rouquier's theorem on representation dimension

Based on work of Rouquier, some bounds for Aulander's representation dimension are discussed. More specifically, if X is a reduced projective scheme of dimension n over some field, and T is a tilting complex of coherent O_X-modules, then the representation dimension of the endomorphism algebra of T is at least n.
