Isospin breaking in the decay constants of heavy mesons from QCD sum rules

We present a study of the strong isospin-breaking (IB) effect, due in QCD to the difference between $u$- and $d$-quark masses, in the leptonic decay constants of charmed and beauty pseudoscalar and vector mesons using the method of QCD sum rules. We apply the sum-rule analysis to the decay constants of mesons containing one heavy quark and one light quark with the light mass in the range from the average $u/d$ quark mass to the strange-quark mass. We then analyse the dependence of the decay constants on the light quark mass and extract with good accuracy the IB ratios of decay constants at leading order in the mass difference $(m_d - m_u)$, obtaining: $(f_{D^+} - f_{D^0}) / f_{D} = 0.0047 (6)$, $(f_{D^{*+}} - f_{D^{*0}}) / f_{D^*} = 0.0068 (9)$, $(f_{B^0} - f_{B^+}) / f_{B} = 0.0047 (6)$, and $(f_{B^{*0}} - f_{B^{*+}}) / f_{B^*} = 0.0045 (5)$, which yield: $f_{D^+} - f_{D^0} = 0.97 \pm 0.13$ MeV, $f_{D^{*+}} - f_{D^{*0}} = 1.73 \pm 0.27$ MeV, $f_{B^0} - f_{B^+} = 0.90 \pm 0.13$ MeV, $f_{B^{*0}} - f_{B^{*+}} = 0.81 \pm 0.11$ MeV. In the case of the $D$-meson our finding is consistent with recent lattice QCD results, whereas it is much lower in the case of the $B$-meson showing a tension of $\approx 3$ standard deviations.

On the description of exotic hadron states within QCD sum rules

Revisiting the QCD sum-rule description of exotic hadron states, we argue that, in order to arrive at trustable analyses of, for instance, strong decay widths of multiquarks, it is inevitable to adopt the QCD sum-rule approach beyond the leading perturbative level.

On properties of the exotic hadrons from QCD sum rules

We discuss the specific features of extracting properties of the exotic polyquark hadrons (tetraquarks, pentaquarks) compared to the usual hadrons by the QCD sum-rule approach. In the case of the ordinary hadrons, already the one-loop leading-order correlation functions provide the bulk of the hadron observables, e.g., of the form factor; inclusion of radiative corrections modifies already nonzero one-loop contributions. In the case of an exotic hadron, the situation is qualitatively different: discussing strong decays of an exotic tetraquark meson, which provide the main contribution to its width, we show that the disconnected leading-order diagrams are not related to the tetraquark properties. For a proper description of the tetraquark decay width, it is mandatory to calculate specific radiative corrections which generate the connected diagrams.

More Lepton Flavor Violating Observables for LHCb's Run 2

The R_K measurement by LHCb suggests non-standard lepton non-universality (LNU) to occur in b -> s l+ l- transitions, with effects in muons rather than electrons. A number of other measurements of b -> s l+ l- transitions by LHCb and B-factories display disagreement with the SM predictions and, remarkably, these discrepancies are consistent in magnitude and sign with the R_K effect. Non-standard LNU suggests non-standard lepton flavor violation (LFV) as well, for example in B -> K l l' and B_s -> l l'. There are good reasons to expect that the new effects may be larger for generations closer to the third one. In this case, the B_s -> mu e decay may be the most difficult to reach experimentally. We propose and study in detail the radiative counterpart of this decay, namely B_s -> mu e gamma, whereby the chiral-suppression factor is replaced by a factor of order alpha/pi. A measurement of this mode would be sensitive to the same physics as the purely leptonic LFV decay and, depending on experimental efficiencies, it may be more accessible. A realistic expectation is a factor of two improvement in statistics for either of the B_{d,s} modes.

Rare radiative leptonic B-decays

We obtain predictions for $B_{(s)}\to e^+e^-γ$ and $B_{(s)}\to μ^+μ^-γ$ decays. All the contributions containing long-distance QCD effects are calculated in the framework of relativistic quark model. The contributions of the light vector-meson resonances related to the virtual photon emission from valence quarks of the $B$-meson are included. The highest branching ratios for the radiative leptonic B-decays are ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to e^+e^-γ)=18.8\times10^{-9}$ and ${\cal B}(B^0_s\to μ^+μ^-γ)=12.2\times10^{-9}$. We also give the distribution of the foward-backward asymmetry.

Strong Couplings of Three Mesons with Charm(ing) Involvement

We determine the strong couplings of three mesons that involve, at least, one $η_c$ or $J/ψ$ meson, within the framework of a constituent-quark model by means of relativistic dispersion formulations. For strong couplings of $J/ψ$ mesons to two charmed mesons, our approach leads to predictions roughly twice as large as those arising from QCD sum rules.

Annihilation type rare radiative $B_{(s)}\to Vγ$ decays

We obtain predictions for a number of radiative decays $B_{(s)}\to Vγ$, $V$ the vector meson, which proceed through the weak-annihilation mechanism. Within the factorization approximation, we take into account the photon emission from the $B$-meson loop and from the vector-meson loop; the latter subprocesses were not considered in the previous analyses but are found to have sizeable impact on the $B_{(s)}\to Vγ$ decay rate. The highest branching ratios for the weak-annihilation reactions reported here are ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to J/ψγ)=1.5\cdot 10^{-7}$ and ${\cal B}(B^-\to \bar D_s^{*-}γ)=1.7\cdot 10^{-7}$, the estimated accuracy of these predictions being at the level of 20\%.

Strong three-meson couplings of $J/ψ$ and $η_c$

We discuss the strong couplings $g_{PPV}$ and $g_{VVP}$ for vector ($V$) and pseudoscalar ($P$) mesons, at least one of which is a charmonium state $J/ψ$ or $η_c$. The strong couplings are obtained as residues at the poles of suitable form factors, calculated in a broad range of momentum transfers using a dispersion formulation of the relativistic constituent quark model. The form factors obtained in this approach satisfy all constraints known for these quantities in the heavy-quark limit. Our results suggest sizably higher values for the strong meson couplings than those reported in the literature from QCD sum rules.

Strong Couplings of Charmed Mesons and Quarkonia

We extract the strong coupling constants of three mesons, each of which is composed of either two charm quarks or one charm quark and one light (i.e., $u$, $d$, or $s$) quark, from the matrix elements for the transitions of two of these mesons induced by appropriate quark currents within the framework of a relativistic dispersion approach to the constituent-quark picture of mesons. Among others, we also analyse the impact of the violation of the SU(3) flavour symmetry by the quark masses. In the case of mesons containing one light quark, we observe, in two respects, discrepancies between our findings and the predictions of QCD sum rules: our strong couplings exceed considerably the ones emerging from QCD sum rules, and, in our approach, the replacement of a light quark by a strange quark entails, in contrast to QCD sum rules, a reduction of the magnitudes of the strong couplings.

Precise Ratios of Decay Constants of Vector over Pseudoscalar $B_{(s)}$ Mesons

The relative magnitude of the decay constants of the pseudoscalar and vector beauty mesons poses (in contrast to the case of charmed mesons) a long-standing puzzle. We revisit this problem within the framework of our recent improvements of the QCD sum-rule formalism for relating observable properties of mesons to quantum chromodynamics and are led to conclude that the decay constants of the beauty vector mesons are undoubtedly smaller than those of their pseudoscalar counterparts.

Accurate decay-constant ratios $f_{B^*}/f_B$ and $f_{B_s^*}/f_{B_s}$ from Borel QCD sum rules

We present our analysis of the decay constants of the beauty vector mesons $B^*$ and $B^*_s$ within the framework of dispersive sum rules for the two-point correlator of vector currents in QCD. While the decay constants of the vector mesons $f_{B^*}$ and $f_{B_s^*}$ $-$ similar to the decay constants of the pseudoscalar mesons $f_B$ and $f_{B_s}$ $-$ individually have large uncertainties induced by theory parameters not known with a satisfactory precision, these uncertainties almost entirely cancel out in the ratios of vector over pseudoscalar decay constants. These ratios may be thus predicted with very high accuracy due to the good control over the systematic uncertainties of the decay constants gained upon application of our hadron-parameter extraction algorithm. Our final results read $f_{B^*}/f_B=0.944\pm0.011_{\rm OPE}\pm0.018_{\rm syst}$ and $f_{B_s^*}/f_{B_s}=0.947\pm0.023_{\rm OPE}\pm0.020_{\rm syst}$. Thus, both $f_{B^*}/f_B$ and $f_{B_s^*}/f_{B_s}$ are less than unity at 2.5$σ$ and 2$σ$ level, respectively.

Advances in QCD sum rule calculations

We review the recent progress in the applications of QCD sum rules to hadron properties with the emphasis on the following selected problems: (i) development of new algorithms for the extraction of ground-state parameters from two-point correlators; (ii) form factors at large momentum transfers from three-point vacuum correlation functions; (iii) properties of exotic tetraquark hadrons from correlation functions of four-quark currents.

Beauty Vector Meson Decay Constants from QCD Sum Rules

We present the outcomes of a very recent investigation of the decay constants of nonstrange and strange heavy-light beauty vector mesons, with special emphasis on the ratio of any such decay constant to the decay constant of the corresponding pseudoscalar meson, by means of Borel-transformed QCD sum rules. Our results suggest that both these ratios are below unity.

QCD Sum Rules for Heavy-Meson Decay Constants: Impact of Renormalization Scale and Scheme

Within the realm of QCD sum rules, one of the most important areas of application of this nonperturbative approach is the prediction of the decay constants of heavy mesons. However, in spite of the fact that, indisputably, the adopted techniques are, of course, very similar, we encounter rather dissimilar challenges, or obstacles, when extracting from two-point correlators of appropriate heavy-light currents interpolating the mesons, the characteristics of charmed mesons with different spin. In view of this, it seems worthwhile to us to revisit this issue for the case of charmed pseudoscalar mesons $D_{(s)}$ and vector mesons $D^*_{(s)}.$

Decay Constants of Beauty Mesons from QCD Sum Rules

Our recently completed analysis of the decay constants of both pseudoscalar and vector beauty mesons reveals that in the bottom-quark sector two specific features of the sum-rule predictions show up: (i) For the input value of the bottom-quark mass in the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme $\overline{m}_b(\overline{m}_b)\approx4.18\;\mbox{GeV},$ the sum-rule result $f_B\approx210$-$220\;\mbox{MeV}$ for the $B$ meson decay constant is substantially larger than the recent lattice-QCD finding $f_B\approx190\;\mbox{MeV}.$ Requiring QCD sum rules to reproduce the lattice-QCD value of $f_B$ yields a significantly larger $b$-quark mass: $\overline{m}_b(\overline{m}_b)=4.247\;\mbox{GeV}.$ (ii) Whereas QCD sum-rule predictions for the charmed-meson decay constants $f_D,$ $f_{D_s},$ $f_{D^*}$ and $f_{D_s^*}$ are practically independent of the choice of renormalization scale, in the beauty sector the results for the decay constants - and especially for the ratio $f_{B^*}/f_B$ - prove to be very sensitive to the specific scale setting.
