Spatial dependence of fidelity for a two-qubit Rydberg-blockade quantum gate

We study the spatial performance of the entangling gate proposed by H. Levine et al. (Phys. Rev. Lett. 123, 170503 (2019)). This gate is based on a Rydberg blockade technique and consists of just two global laser pulses which drive nearby atoms. We analyze the multilevel Zeeman structure of interacting $^{87}$Rb Rydberg atoms and model two experimentally available excitation schemes using specific driving beams geometry and polarization. In particular, we estimate the blockade shift dependence on inter-atomic distance and angle with respect to the quantization axis. In addition, we show that using Rydberg $d$-states, in contrast to $s$-states, leads to a pronounced angular dependence of the blockade shift and gate fidelity.

On a theory of light scattering from a Bose-Einstein condensate

We consider a quantum theory of elastic light scattering from macroscopic atomic sample existing in the Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) phase. Following to the second quantized formalism we introduce a set of coupled and closed diagram equations for the polariton propagator contributing to the $T$ -matrix and scattering amplitude. Our approach allows to follow important density correction to the quasi-energy structure caused by static interaction and radiation losses associated with incoherent scattering in the case of near resonance excitation.

Macroscopic quantum information channel via the polarization-sensitive interaction between the light and spin subsystems

We discuss the quantum information channel, which is based on coherent and polarization sensitive interaction of light and atomic spin waves. We show that the joint Heisenberg dynamics of the polarization Stokes components of light and of the angular momenta of atoms has a wave nature and can be properly described in terms of the macroscopic polariton-type spin wave created in the sample. The principles of the quantum memory and readout protocols via the wave coupling of the output time modes in the light subsystem and the output spatial modes in the spin subsystem are demonstrated.
