Bianchi IX dynamics with a phantom field

We consider Bianchi IX dynamics of a Universe filled with a massless phantom field. Such an exotic matter source enables regimes impossible in vacuum or with a standard scalar field. In particular, two Kasner indices of BKL oscillations can be simultaneously negative, and the absolute value of a negative index can be large. We describe the consequences of these features and explain the nature of volume oscillations recently discovered in such a system by numerical methods.

Pixel-Translation-Equivariant Quantum Convolutional Neural Networks via Fourier Multiplexers

Convolutional neural networks owe much of their success to hard-coding translation equivariance. Quantum convolutional neural networks (QCNNs) have been proposed as near-term quantum analogues, but the relevant notion of translation depends on the data encoding. For address/amplitude encodings such as FRQI, a pixel shift acts as modular addition on an index register, whereas many MERA-inspired QCNNs are equivariant only under cyclic permutations of physical qubits. We formalize this mismatch and construct QCNN layers that commute exactly with the pixel cyclic shift (PCS) symmetry induced by the encoding. Our main technical result is a constructive characterization of all PCS-equivariant unitaries: conjugation by the quantum Fourier transform (QFT) diagonalizes translations, so any PCS-equivariant layer is a Fourier-mode multiplexer followed by an inverse QFT (IQFT). Building on this characterization, we introduce a deep PCS-QCNN with measurement-induced pooling, deferred conditioning, and inter-layer QFT cancellation. We also analyze trainability at random initialization and prove a lower bound on the expected squared gradient norm that remains constant in a depth-scaling regime, ruling out a depth-induced barren plateau in that sense.

Spontaneous symmetry breaking as a result of extra dimensions compactification

We consider dynamics of a scalar field in compactification scenario of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet cosmology. It is shown that if the field is non-minimally coupled to curvature, its asymptotic value under certain conditions may be shifted from the minimum of its potential. This means that due to influence of extra dimensions a scalar field with $\lambda \phi^4$ potential can stabilise away from $\phi=0$ stable point which means an effective symmetry breaking occurs in such a system.

Stability analysis of compactification in 3-d order Lovelock gravity

It is known that spatial curvature can stabilize extra dimensions in Lovelock gravity. In the present paper we study stability of the stabilization solutions in 3-d order Lovelock gravity. We show that in the case of negative spatial curvature of extra dimension space the stabilization solution is always stable. On the contrary, for positive spatial curvature the stability depends on the coupling constant values.

Some aspects of the cosmological dynamics in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We study some aspects of dynamical compactification scenario where stabilisation of extra dimensions occurs due to presence the Gauss-Bonnet term and non-zero spatial curvature. In the framework of the model under consideration there exists two-stages scenario of evolution of a Universe: on the first stage, the space evolves from a totally anisotropic state to the state with 3-dimensional (corresponding to our "real", world) expanding and $D$-dimensional contracting isotropic subspaces; on the second stage, constant curvature of extra dimensions begins to play role and provide compactification of extra dimensions. It is already known that such a scenario is realizable when constant curvature of extra dimensions is negative. Here we show that a range of coupling constants for which exponential solutions with 3-dimensional expanding and $D$-dimensional contracting isotropic subspaces are stable is located in a zone where compactification solutions with positively curved extra space are unstable, so that two-stage scenario analogous to the one described above is \emph{not} realizable. Also we study "nearly-Friedmann", regime for the case of arbitrary constant curvature of extra dimensions and describe new parametrization of the general solution for the model under consideration which provide elegant way of describing areas of existence over parameters space.

Cosmological solutions in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with static curved extra dimensions

In this paper we perform systematic investigation of all possible solutions with static compact extra dimensions and expanding three-dimensional subspace (``our Universe''). Unlike previous papers, we consider extra-dimensional subspace to be constant-curvature manifold with both signs of spatial curvature. We provide a scheme how to build solutions in all possible number of extra dimensions and perform stability analysis for the solutions found. Our study suggests that the solutions with negative spatial curvature of extra dimensions are always stable while those with positive curvature are stable for a narrow range of the parameters and the width of this range shrinks with growth of the number of extra dimensions. This explains why in the previous papers we detected compactification in the case of negative curvature but the case of positive curvature remained undiscovered. Another interesting feature which distinguish cases with positive and negative curvatures is that the latter do not coexist with maximally-symmetric solutions (leading to ``geometric frustration'' of a sort) while the former could -- this difference is noted and discussed.

Anisotropic cosmological dynamics in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity: an example of dynamical compactification in 7+1 dimensions

We consider a particular example of dynamical compactification of an anisotropic 7+1 dimensional Universe in Einstein - Gauss - Bonnet gravity. Starting from rather general totally anisotropic initial conditions a Universe in question evolves towards a product of two isotropic subspaces. The first subspace expands isotropically, the second represents an "inner" isotropic subspace with stabilized size. The dynamical evolution does not require fine-tuning of initial conditions, though it is possible for a particular range of coupling constants. The corresponding condition have been found analytically and have been confirmed using numerical integration of equations of motion.

Splitting into two isotropic subspaces as a result of cosmological evolution in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We consider numerically dynamics of a flat anisotropic Universe in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with positive $Λ$ in dimensionalities 5+1 and 6+1. We identify three possible outcomes of the evolution, one singular and two nonsingular. First nonsingular outcome is oscillatory. Second is the known exponential solution. The simplest version of it is the isotropic de Sitter solution. In Gauss-Bonnet cosmology there exist also anisotropic exponential solutions. When an exponential solution being an outcome of cosmological evolution has two different Hubble parameters, the evolution leads from initially totally anisotropic stage to a sum of two isotropic subspaces. We show that such type of evolution is rather typical and possible even in the case when de Sitter solution also exists.

Dynamic compactification with stabilized extra dimensions in cubic Lovelock gravity

In this paper the dynamic compactification in Lovelock gravity with a cubic term is studied. The ansatz will be of space-time where the three dimensional space and the extra dimensions are constant curvature manifolds with independent scale factors. The numerical analysis shows that there exist a phenomenologically realistic compactification regime where the three dimensional hubble parameter and the extra dimensional scale factor tend to a constant. This result comes as surprise as in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity this regime exists only when the couplings of the theory are such that the theory does not admit a maximally symmetric solution (i.e. "geometric frustration"). In cubic Lovelock gravity however there always exists at least one maximally symmetric solution which makes it fundamentally different from the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet case. Moreover, in opposition to Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity, it is also found that for some values of the couplings and initial conditions these compactification regimes can coexist with isotropizing solutions.

Non-constant volume exponential solutions in higher-dimensional Lovelock cosmologies

In this paper we propose a scheme which allows one to find all possible exponential solutions of special class -- non-constant volume solutions -- in Lovelock gravity in arbitrary number of dimensions and with arbitrate combinations of Lovelock terms. We apply this scheme to (6+1)- and (7+1)-dimensional flat anisotropic cosmologies in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet and third-order Lovelock gravity to demonstrate how our scheme does work. In course of this demonstration we derive all possible solutions in (6+1) and (7+1) dimensions and compare solutions and their abundance between cases with different Lovelock terms present. As a special but more "physical" case we consider spaces which allow three-dimensional isotropic subspace for they could be viewed as examples of compactification schemes. Our results suggest that the same solution with three-dimensional isotropic subspace is more "probable" to occur in the model with most possible Lovelock terms taken into account, which could be used as kind of anthropic argument for consideration of Lovelock and other higher-order gravity models in multidimensional cosmologies.

Constant volume exponential solutions in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet flat anisotropic cosmology with a perfect fluid

In this paper we investigate the constant volume exponential solutions (i.e. the solutions with the scale factors change exponentially over time so that the comoving volume remains the same) in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We find conditions for these solutions to exist and show that they are compatible with any perfect fluid with the equation of state parameter $ω<1/3$ if the matter density of the Universe exceeds some critical value. We write down some exact solutions which generalize ones found in our previous paper for models with a cosmological constant.

Exact exponential solutions in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet flat anisotropic cosmology

In this paper we are looking for the exponential solutions (i.e. the solutions with the scale factors change exponentially over time) in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We argue that we found all possible non-constant-volume solutions (up to permutations) in lower dimensions ((4+1) and (5+1)) and developed a scheme which allows one to find necessary conditions in arbitrary dimension.
