Characteristic integrals and general solution of the Ferapontov-Shabat-Yamilov lattice

For the finite (non-periodic) systems obtained from a lattice introduced by Ferapontov and independently by Shabat and Yamilov, we present a quadrature-free general solution and a recurrent formula for the characteristic integrals. The derivation of these formulae relies on the underlying determinantal equations. We illustrate the results using a two-component system.

The Lattice Sine-Gordon Equation as a Superposition Formula for an NLS-Type System

We treat the lattice sine-Gordon equation and two of its generalised symmetries as a compatible system. Elimination of shifts from the two symmetries of the lattice sine-Gordon equation yields an integrable NLS-type system. An auto-Bäcklund transformation and a superposition formula for the NLS-type system is obtained by elimination of shifts from the lattice sine-Gordon equation and its down-shifted version. We use the obtained formulae to calculate a superposition of two and three elementary solutions.

On steady motions of an ideal fibre-reinforced fluid in a curved stratum. Geometry and integrability

It is shown that the kinematic equations governing steady motions of an ideal fibre-reinforced fluid in a curved stratum may be expressed entirely in terms of the intrinsic Gauss equation, which assumes the form of a partial differential equation of third order, for the surface representing the stratum. In particular, the approach adopted here leads to natural non-classical orthogonal coordinate systems on surfaces of constant Gaussian curvature with one family of coordinate lines representing the fibres. Integrable cases are isolated by requiring that the Gauss equation be compatible with another third-order hyperbolic differential equation. In particular, a variant of the integrable Tzitzéica equation is derived which encodes orthogonal coordinate systems on pseudospherical surfaces. This third-order equation is related to the Tzitzéica equation by an analogue of the Miura transformation for the (modified) Korteweg-de Vries equation. Finally, the formalism developed in this paper is illustrated by focussing on the simplest ``fluid sheets'' of constant Gaussian curvature, namely the plane, sphere and pseudosphere.

On non-steady planar motions of fibre-reinforced fluids. Geometry and integrable structure

It is shown that the kinematic system describing planar non-steady motions of ideal fibre-reinforced fluids may be reduced to a single two-dimensional third-order partial differential equation in which time enters parametrically. A procedure is established which maps steady motions to non-steady motions. The resulting motions inherit their hidden integrable structure from the steady case. The formalism presented here also readily recovers the connection with the scattering problem of the modified Korteweg-de Vries hierarchy established in previous work.

Darboux integrability of determinant and equations for principal minors

We consider equations that represent a constancy condition for a 2D Wronskian, mixed Wronskian-Casoratian and 2D Casoratian. These determinantal equations are shown to have the number of independent integrals equal to their order - this implies Darboux integrability. On the other hand, the recurrent formulas for the leading principal minors are equivalent to the 2D Toda equation and its semi-discrete and lattice analogues with particular boundary conditions (cut-off constraints). This connection is used to obtain recurrent formulas and closed-form expressions for integrals of the Toda-type equations from the integrals of the determinantal equations. General solutions of the equations corresponding to vanishing determinants are given explicitly while in the non-vanishing case they are given in terms of solutions of ordinary linear equations.

Integrals of open 2D lattices

We present an explicit formula for integrals of the open 2D Toda lattice of type $A_n$. This formula is applicable for various reductions of this lattice. To illustrate the concept we find integrals of the Toda $G_2$ lattice. We also reveal a connection between the open Toda $A_n$ and Shabat-Yamilov lattices.

On non-Abelian Toda $A_2^{(1)}$ model and related hierarchies

We study limiting cases of the two known integrable chiral-type models with tree-dimensional configuration space. One of the initial models is the non-Abelian Toda $A_2^{(1)}$ model and the other was found by means of the symmetry approach by A.G. Meshkov and one of the authors. The C-integrability of the reduced models is established by constructing their complete sets of integrals and general solutions. A description of the generalized symmetry algebras of these models is given in terms of operators mapping integrals into symmetries. The integrals of the Liouville-type systems are known to define Miura-type transformations for their generalized symmetries. This fact allowed us to find a few new systems of the Yajima-Oikawa type. We present a recursion operator for one them.

On application of Liouville type equations to constructing Bäcklund transformations

It is shown how pseudoconstants of the Liouville-type equations can be exploited as a tool for construction of the Bäcklund transformations. Several new examples of such transformations are found. In particular we obtained the Bäcklund transformations for a pair of three-component analogs of the dispersive water wave system, and auto-Bäcklund transformations for coupled three-component KdV-type systems.

On recursion operators for elliptic models

New quasilocal recursion and Hamiltonian operators for the Krichever-Novikov and the Landau-Lifshitz equations are found. It is shown that the associative algebra of quasilocal recursion operators for these models is generated by a couple of operators related by an elliptic curve equation. A theoretical explanation of this fact for the Landau-Lifshitz equation is given in terms of multiplicators of the corresponding Lax structure.
