Convergence analysis of a proximal-type algorithm for DC programs with applications to variable selection

We consider a minimization problem of the form $P(φ, g, h):$ $$\min\left\{f(x):= φ(x) + g(x) - h(x) \colon x \in \mathbb{R}^n\right\},$$ where $φ$ is a differentiable function and $g,$ $h$ are convex functions, and introduce iterative methods to finding a critical point of $f$ when $f$ is differentiable. We show that the point computed by proximal point algorithm at each iteration can be used to determine a descent direction for the objective function at this point. This algorithm can be considered as a combination of proximal point algorithm together with a linesearch step that uses this descent direction. We also study convergence results of these algorithms and the inertial proximal methods proposed by Maing$\acute{e}$ and Moudafi (SIAM J. Optim. {\bf 19}(2008), 397--413) under the main assumption that the objective function satisfies the Kurdika--Łojasiewicz property. The proposed algorithm is then applied to solve the variable selection problem in linear regression.

Newton Method for Multiobjective Optimization Problems of Interval-Valued Maps

In this article, we propose a Newton-based method for solving multiobjective interval optimization problems (MIOPs). We first provide a connection between weakly Pareto optimal points and Pareto critical points in the context of MIOPs. Introducing this relationship, we develop an algorithm aimed at computing a Pareto critical point. The algorithm incorporates the computation of a descent direction at a non-Pareto critical point and employs an Armijo-like line search strategy to ensure sufficient decrease. Under suitable assumptions, we prove that the sequence generated by our proposed algorithm converges to a Pareto critical point. The effectiveness and performance of the proposed method are demonstrated through a series of numerical experiments on some test problems. Finally, we apply our proposed algorithm in a portfolio optimization problem with interval uncertainty.

Optimality conditions at infinity for nonsmooth minimax programming

This paper is devoted to study of optimality conditions at infinity in nonsmooth minimax programming problems and applications. By means of the limiting subdifferential and normal cone at infinity, we dirive necessary and sufficient optimality conditions of Karush--Kuhn--Tucker type for nonsmooth minimax programming problems with constraint. The obtained results are applied to a nonsmooth vector optimization problem.

Coderivatives at infinity of set-valued mappings

In this paper, the concept of coderivatives at infinity of set-valued mappings is introduced. Well-posedness properties at infinity of set-valued mappings as well as Mordukhovich's criterion at infinity are established. Fermat's rule at infinity in set-valued optimization is also provided. The obtained results, which give new information even in the classical cases of smooth single-valued mappings, provide complete characterizations of the properties under consideration in the setting at infinity of set-valued mappings.

Subdifferentials at infinity and applications in optimization

In this work, the notions of normal cones at infinity to unbounded sets and limiting and singular subdifferentials at infinity for extended real value functions are introduced. Various calculus rules for these notions objects are established. A complete characterization of the Lipschitz continuity at infinity for lower semi-continuous functions is given. The obtained results are aimed ultimately at applications to diverse problems of optimization, such as optimality conditions, coercive properties, weak sharp minima and stability results.

Two Optimal Value Functions in Parametric Conic Linear Programming

We consider the conic linear program given by a closed convex cone in an Euclidean space and a matrix, where vector on the right-hand-side of the constraint system and the vector defining the objective function are subject to change. Using the strict feasibility condition, we prove the locally Lipschitz continuity and obtain some differentiability properties of the optimal value function of the problem under right-hand-side perturbations. For the optimal value function under linear perturbations of the objective function, similar differentiability properties are obtained under the assumption saying that both primal problem and dual problem are strictly feasible.

On continuous selections of polynomial functions

A continuous selection of polynomial functions is a continuous function whose domain can be partitioned into finitely many pieces on which the function coincides with a polynomial. Given a set of finitely many polynomials, we show that there are only finitely many continuous selections of it and each one is semi-algebraic. Then, we establish some generic properties regarding the critical points, defined by the Clarke subdifferential, of these continuous selections. In particular, given a set of finitely many polynomials with generic coefficients, we show that the critical points of all continuous selections of it are finite and the critical values are all different, and we also derive the coercivity of those continuous selections which are bounded from below. We point out that some existing results about Łojasiewicz's inequality and error bounds for the maximum function of some finitely many polynomials are also valid for all the continuous selections of them.

On types of KKT points in polynomial optimization

Let $f$ be a real polynomial function with $n$ variables and $S$ be a basic closed semialgebraic set in $\Bbb{R}^n$. In this paper, we are interested in the problem of identifying the type (local minimizer, maximizer or not extremum point) of a given isolated KKT point $x^*$ of $f$ over $S.$ To this end, we investigate some properties of the tangency variety of $f$ on $S$ at $x^*,$ by which we introduce the definition of faithful radius of $f$ over $S$ at $x^*.$ Then, we show that the type of $x^*$ can be determined by the global extrema of $f$ over the intersection of $S$ and the Euclidean ball centered at $x^*$ with a faithful radius. Finally, we propose an algorithm involving algebraic computations to compute a faithful radius of $x^*$ and determine its type.

Weak convergence theorems for a symmetric generalized hybrid mapping and an equilibrium problem

In this paper, we introduce three new iterative methods for finding a common point of the set of fixed points of a symmetric generalized hybrid mapping and the set of solutions of an equilibrium problem in a real Hilbert space. Each method can be considered as an combination of Ishikawa's process with the proximal point algorithm, the extragradient algorithm with or without linesearch. Under certain conditions on parameters, the iteration sequences generated by the proposed methods are proved to be weakly convergent to a solution of the problem. These results extend the previous results given in the literature. A numerical example is also provided to illustrate the proposed algorithms.

Existence of efficient and properly efficient solutions to problems of constrained vector optimization

The paper is devoted to the existence of global optimal solutions for a general class of nonsmooth problems of constrained vector optimization without boundedness assumptions on constraint sets. The main attention is paid to the two major notions of optimality in vector problems: Pareto efficiency and proper efficiency in the sense of Geoffrion. Employing adequate tools of variational analysis and generalized differentiation, we first establish relationships between the notions of properness, $M$-tameness, and the Palais--Smale conditions formulated for the restriction of the vector cost mapping on the constraint set. These results are instrumental to derive verifiable necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of Pareto efficient solutions in vector optimization. Furthermore, the developed approach allows us to obtain new sufficient conditions for the existence of Geoffrion-properly efficient solutions to such constrained vector problems.

On the existence of Pareto solutions for polynomial vector optimization problems

We are interested in the existence of Pareto solutions to the vector optimization problem $$\text{Min}_{\,\mathbb{R}^m_+} \{f(x) \,|\, x\in \mathbb{R}^n\},$$ where $f\colon\mathbb{R}^n\to \mathbb{R}^m$ is a polynomial map. By using the {\em tangency variety} of $f$ we first construct a semi-algebraic set of dimension at most $m - 1$ containing the set of Pareto values of the problem. Then we establish connections between the Palais--Smale conditions, $M$-tameness, and properness for the map $f$. Based on these results, we provide some sufficient conditions for the existence of Pareto solutions of the problem. We also introduce a generic class of polynomial vector optimization problems having at least one Pareto solution.

Strong Second-Order Karush--Kuhn--Tucker Optimality Conditions for Vector Optimization

In the present paper, we focus on the vector optimization problems with inequality constraints, where objective functions and constrained functions are Fréchet differentiable, and whose gradient mapping is locally Lipschitz on an open set. By using the second-order symmetric subdifferential and the second-order tangent set, we propose two types of second-order regularity conditions in the sense of Abadie. Then we establish some strong second-order Karush--Kuhn--Tucker necessary optimality conditions for Geoffrion properly efficient solutions of the considered problem. Examples are given to illustrate the obtained results.

Extragradient algorithms for equilibrium problems and symmetric generalized hybrid mappings

In this paper, we propose new algorithms for finding a common point of the solution set of a pseudomonotone equilibrium problem and the set of fixed points of a symmetric generalized hybrid mapping in a real Hilbert space. The convergence of the iterates generated by each method is obtained under assumptions that the fixed point mapping is quasi-nonexpansive and demiclosed at $0$, and the bifunction associated with the equilibrium problem is weakly continuous. The bifunction is assumed to be satisfying a Lipschitz-type condition when the basic iteration comes from the extragradient method. It becomes unnecessary when an Armijo back tracking linesearch is incorporated in the extragradient method.
