Feuilletages et transformations périodiques

Bertini classified the birational involutions of the complex projective plane, but his geometric approach does not allow to explicit these maps easily. In this article, we present an effective approach to this problem by associating to each quadratic foliation a birational involution which is, in the generic case, a Geiser involution; this subject has already been covered by Geiser, Milinowski, Williams and alt. We end by making experiences, obtaining trivolutions from some foliations of degree 3.

Transformations birationnelles de petit degré

Since the end of the XIXth century, we know that each birational map of the complex projective plane is the product of a finite number of quadratic birational maps of the projective plane; this motivates our work which essentially deals with these quadratic maps. We establish algebraic properties such as the classification of one parameter groups of quadratic birational maps or the smoothness of the set of quadratic birational maps in the set of rational maps. We prove that a finite number of generic quadratic birational maps generates a free group. We show that if f is a quadratic birational map or an automorphism of the projective plane, the normal subgroup generated by f is the full group of birational maps of the projective plane, which implies that this group is perfect. We study some dynamical properties: following an idea of Guillot, we translate some invariants for foliations in our context, in particular we obtain that if two generic quadratic birational maps are birationally conjugated, then they are conjugated by an automorphism of the projective plane. We are also interested in the presence of "invariant objects": curves, foliations, fibrations. Then follows a more experimental part: we draw orbits of quadratic birational maps with real coefficients and sets analogous to Julia sets for polynomials of one variable. We study birational maps of degree 3 and, by considering the different possible configurations of the exceptional curves, we give the "classification" of these maps. We can deduce from this that the set of the birational maps of degree 3 exactly is irreducible, in fact rationally connected.

Complex codimension one singular foliations and Godbillon-Vey sequences

Let F be a codimension one singular holomorphic foliation on a compact complex manifold M. Assume that there exists a meromorphic vector field X on M generically transversal to F. Then, we prove that F is the meromorphic pull-back of an algebraic foliation on an algebraic manifold N, or F is transversely projective outside a compact hypersurface, improving our previous work (see version 1). Such a vector field insures the existence of a global meromorphic Godbillon-Vey sequence for the foliation F. We derive sufficient conditions on this sequence insuring such alternative. For instance, if there exists a finite Godbillon-Vey sequence or if the Godbillon-Vey invariant is zero, then either F is the pull-back of a foliation on a surface, or F is transversely projective. We illustrate these results with many examples.

Feuilletages et actions de groupes sur les espaces projectifs

A holomorphic foliation $\mathscr{F}$ on a compact complex manifold $M$ is said to be an $\mathscr{L}$-foliation if there exists an action of a complex Lie group $G$ such that the generic leaf of $\mathscr{F}$ coincides with the generic orbit of $G$. We study $\mathscr{L}$-foliations of codimension one, in particular in projective space, in the spirit of classical invariant theory, but here the invariants are sometimes transcendantal ones. We give a bestiary of examples and general properties. Some classification results are obtained in low dimensions.
