Bilipschitz geometry of real surface singularities whose tangent cone is a plane

Tangent cones are preserved under ambient bilipschitz equivalence, but the behavior of the Nash cone is more delicate. This paper explores the behavior of the Nash cone and of exceptional rays under ambient bilipschitz equivalence for real surfaces in $\mathbb R^3$ with isolated singularity and whose tangent cone is a plane.

Perfusion Quantification from Endoscopic Videos: Learning to Read Tumor Signatures

Intra-operative identification of malignant versus benign or healthy tissue is a major challenge in fluorescence guided cancer surgery. We propose a perfusion quantification method for computer-aided interpretation of subtle differences in dynamic perfusion patterns which can be used to distinguish between normal tissue and benign or malignant tumors intra-operatively in real-time by using multispectral endoscopic videos. The method exploits the fact that vasculature arising from cancer angiogenesis gives tumors differing perfusion patterns from the surrounding tissue, and defines a signature of tumor which could be used to differentiate tumors from normal tissues. Experimental evaluation of our method on a cohort of colorectal cancer surgery endoscopic videos suggests that the proposed tumor signature is able to successfully discriminate between healthy, cancerous and benign tissue with 95% accuracy.

Choking horns in Lipschitz Geometry of Complex Algebraic Varieties

We study the Lipschitz Geometry of Complex Algebraic Singularities. For this purpose we introduce the notion of choking horns. A Choking horn is a family of cycles on the family of the sections of an algebraic variety by very small spheres centered at a singular point, such that the cycles cannot be boundaries of nearby chains. The presence of choking horns is an obstruction to metric conicalness as we can see with some classical isolated hypersurfaces singularities which we prove are not metrically conic. We also show that there exist infinitely countably many singular varieties, which are locally homeomorphic, but not locally bi-Lipschitz equivalent with respect to the inner metric.

Polynomial knots

A polynomial knot is a smooth embedding $κ: \real \to \real^n$ whose components are polynomials. The case $n = 3$ is of particular interest. It is both an object of real algebraic geometry as well as being an open ended topological knot. This paper contains basic results for these knots as well as many examples.
