Normal bases for modular function fields

We provide a concrete example of a normal basis for a finite Galois extension which is not abelian. More precisely, let $\mathbb{C}(X(N))$ be the field of meromorphic functions on the modular curve $X(N)$ of level $N$. We construct a completely free element in the extension $\mathbb{C}(X(N))/\mathbb{C}(X(1))$ by means of Siegel functions.

Generators of Siegel modular function field of higher genus and level

For positive integers $g$ and $N$, let $\mathcal{F}_N$ be the field of meromorphic Siegel modular functions of genus $g$ and level $N$ whose Fourier coefficients belong to the $N$th cyclotomic field. We present explicit generators of $\mathcal{F}_N$ over $\mathcal{F}_1$ in terms of quotient of theta constants, when $g\geq2$ and $N\geq 3$.

Siegel families with application to class fields

We investigate certain families of meromorphic Siegel modular functions on which Galois groups act in a natural way. By using Shimura's reciprocity law we construct some algebraic numbers in the ray class fields of CM-fields in terms of special values of functions in these Siegel families.

Determination of the Fricke families

For a positive integer $N$ divisible by $4$, let $\mathcal{O}^1_N(\mathbb{Q})$ be the ring of weakly holomorphic modular functions for the congruence subgroup $Γ^1(N)$ with rational Fourier coefficients. We present explicit generators of the ring $\mathcal{O}^1_N(\mathbb{Q})$ over $\mathbb{Q}$, from which we are able to classify all Fricke families of such level $N$.

Generation of class fields by Siegel-Ramachandra invariants

We show that the Siegel-Ramachandra invariants could be primitive generators of the ray class fields of imaginary quadratic fields. By using Shimura's reciprocity law we give a modern explanation of the solution of class number one problem given by Heegner and Stark.

Generation of class fields by using the Weber function

Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field and $\mathcal{O}_K$ be its ring of integers. Let $h_E$ be the Weber function on certain elliptic curve $E$ with complex multiplication by $\mathcal{O}_K$. We show that if $N$ ($>1$) is an integer prime to $6$, then the function $h_E$ alone generates the ray class field modulo $N\mathcal{O}_K$ over $K$ when evaluated at some $N$-torsion point of $E$.

On the Diophantine equation $pq=x^2+ny^2$

Let $n$ be a positive integer. We discuss pairs of distinct odd primes $p$ and $q$ not dividing $n$ for which the Diophantine equations $pq=x^2+ny^2$ have integer solutions in $x$ and $y$. As its examples we classify all such pairs of $p$ and $q$ when $n=5$ and $14$.

Some applications of eta-quotients

We show that every modular form on $Γ_0(2^n)$ ($n\geq2$) can be expressed as a sum of eta-quotients. Furthermore, we construct a primitive generator of the ring class field of the order of conductor $4N$ ($N\geq1$) in an imaginary quadratic field in view of the special value of certain eta-quotient.

On some theta constants and class fields

We first find a sufficient condition for a product of theta constants to be a Siegel modular function of a given even level. And, when $K_{(2p)}$ denotes the ray class field of $K=\mathbb{Q}(e^{2πi/5})$ modulo $2p$ for an odd prime $p$, we describe a subfield of $K_{(2p)}$ generated by the special value of certain theta constant by using Shimura's reciprocity law.

$y$-coordinates of elliptic curves

By a change of variables we obtain new $y$-coordinates of elliptic curves. Utilizing these $y$-coordinates as modular functions, together with the elliptic modular function, we generate the modular function fields of level $N\geq3$. Furthermore, by means of the singular values of the $y$-coordinates we construct the ray class fields modulo $N$ over imaginary quadratic fields as well as normal bases of these ray class fields.

Some applications of modular units

We show that a weakly holomorphic modular function can be written as a sum of modular units of higher level. We further find a necessary and sufficient condition for a Siegel modular function of degree $g$ to have neither zero nor pole on the domain when restricted to certain subset of the Siegel upper half-space $\mathbb{H}_g$.

Completely normal elements in finite abelian extensions

We give a completely normal element in the maximal real subfield of a cyclotomic field over the field of rational numbers, which is different from that of Okada. This result is a consequence of the criterion for a normal element developed in [Normal bases of ray class fields over imaginary quadratic fields, Math. Zeit.]. Furthermore, we find a completely normal element in certain extension of modular function fields in terms of a quotient of the modular discriminant function.

Singular values of principal moduli

Let $g$ be a principal modulus with rational Fourier coefficients for a discrete subgroup of $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{R})$ between $Γ(N)$ or $Γ_0(N)^†$ for a positive integer $N$. Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field. We give a simple proof of the fact that the singular value of $g$ generates the ray class field modulo $N$ or the ring class field of the order of conductor $N$ over $K$. Furthermore, we construct primitive generators of ray class fields of arbitrary moduli over $K$ in terms of Hasse's two generators.

Representations by $x_1^2+2x_2^2+x_3^2+x_4^2+x_1x_3+x_1x_4+x_2x_4$

Let $r_Q(n)$ be the representation number of a nonnegative integer $n$ by the quaternary quadratic form $Q=x_1^2+2x_2^2+x_3^2+x_4^2+x_1x_3+x_1x_4+x_2x_4$. We first prove the identity $r_Q(p^2n)=r_Q(p^2)r_Q(n)/r_Q(1)$ for any prime $p$ different from 13 and any positive integer $n$ prime to $p$, which was conjectured in [Eum et al, A modularity criterion for Klein forms, with an application to modular forms of level 13, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 375 (2011), 28--41]. And, we explicitly determine a concise formula for the number $r_Q(n^2)$ as well for any integer $n$.

Ray class invariants over imaginary quadratic fields

Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field of discriminant less than or equal to -7 and $K_{(N)}$ be its ray class field modulo $N$ for an integer $N$ greater than 1. We prove that singular values of certain Siegel functions generate $K_{(N)}$ over $K$ by extending the idea of our previous work. These generators are not only the simplest ones conjectured by Schertz, but also quite useful in the matter of computation of class polynomials. We indeed give an algorithm to find all conjugates of such generators by virtue of Gee and Stevenhagen.
