Impact of Nuclear Reaction Rates on Calcium Production in Population III Stars: A Global Analysis

We investigate the sensitivity of calcium production to nuclear reaction rates of a 40 solar-mass Population III star using 1D multi-zone stellar models. A comprehensive nuclear reaction network was constructed, and all $(p,\gamma)$ and $(p,\alpha)$ reaction rates were individually varied by a factor of 10 up and down, identifying 13 preliminary key reactions for calcium production. To propagate the reaction rate uncertainties on calcium production, two sets of Monte Carlo simulations were performed for these key reactions: one adopting STARLIB reaction rates and the other incorporating updated rates from recent experimental data and evaluations. Our results show that Monte Carlo simulations using the updated rates show good agreement with the observed calcium abundance of the extremely iron-poor star SMSS J031300.36-670839.3 within the 68% confidence interval predicted by the models. In contrast, the observed calcium abundance lies marginally outside the 68% C.I. when using the STARLIB rates. Spearman rank-order correlation analysis and SHAP values show that the $(p,\gamma)$ and $(p,\alpha)$ reactions of F18 and F19 exhibit strong coupled effects on calcium production. These reaction-rate uncertainties need to be reduced to constrain the stellar model predictions. Our study provides insights for future nuclear physics experiments aimed at reducing reaction rate uncertainties in the nucleosynthesis of Population III Stars. Additionally, comparisons between 20 solar-mass and 40 solar-mass Population III stellar models confirm that the latter, with updated reaction rates, is more capable of reproducing the observed Ca abundance and [Ca/Mg] ratio.

Impact of Nuclear Reaction Rate Uncertainties on Type I X-ray Burst Nucleosynthesis: A Monte Carlo Study

Type I X-ray bursts are thermonuclear flashes on the surface of accreting neutron stars, involving hundreds of nuclei and thousands of reactions with larger uncertainties in reaction rate. To investigate the impact of nuclear reaction rate uncertainties on type I X-ray burst nucleosynthesis, comprehensive Monte Carlo simulations were performed with temperature-independent and -dependent variations in reaction rates using the REACLIB and STARLIB libraries, respectively. A total of 1,711 $(p, \gamma)$, $(p, \alpha)$, $(\alpha, p)$, and $(\alpha, \gamma)$ reaction rates are varied simultaneously along with their inverse reactions via detailed balance. For the first time, it has been found that Monte Carlo sampling with larger perturbations to these reaction rates may lead to multi-peak abundance distributions for certain isotopes, such as $^{64}$Zn and $^{55}$Co. These multi-peak structures arise not only from coupled reactions but also from single reactions in some cases. Our studies also confirm previously identified key reactions and provide more robust lists that deserve priority consideration in future studies.

The Potential Energy of Heavy Quarkonium in Flavor-Dependent Systems from a Holographic Model

Within the framework of the Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton (EMD) model, which incorporates information on the equation of state and baryon number susceptibility from lattice results, we have conducted a comprehensive analysis of the potential energy, running coupling, and dissociation time for heavy quark-antiquark pairs using gauge/gravity duality. This study encompasses various systems, including pure gluon systems, 2 flavor systems, 2+1 flavor systems, and 2+1+1 flavor systems under finite temperature and chemical potential. The results reveal that the linear component of the potential energy diminishes as the flavor increases. It is also found that our results are extremely close to the recent lattice results for 2+1 flavors at finite temperature. Moreover, we have thoroughly investigated the dissociation distance and running coupling constant of quark-antiquark pairs to gain a comprehensive understanding of their behavior across various flavors. Finally, we have examined real-time dynamics of quark dissociation. The findings indicate that the dissociation time of quark-antiquark pairs is dependent on temperature, chemical potential, and flavor of the systems.

A holographic bottom-up approach to $\Sigma$ baryons

In this work, we discuss the description of neutral $\Sigma$ baryons with $I(J^P)=1(1/2^+)$ and $I(J^P)=1(3/2^+)$ using two bottom-up approaches: the deformed background and the static dilaton. In both models, we consider a non-linear Regge trajectory extension motivated by the \emph{strange} nature that $\Sigma$ baryons have. We found that both models describe these systems with an RMS error smaller than 10 $\%$. We also perform a configurational entropy calculation in both models to discuss hadronic stability.

Disentangling Imperfect: A Wavelet-Infused Multilevel Heterogeneous Network for Human Activity Recognition in Flawed Wearable Sensor Data

The popularity and diffusion of wearable devices provides new opportunities for sensor-based human activity recognition that leverages deep learning-based algorithms. Although impressive advances have been made, two major challenges remain. First, sensor data is often incomplete or noisy due to sensor placement and other issues as well as data transmission failure, calling for imputation of missing values, which also introduces noise. Second, human activity has multi-scale characteristics. Thus, different groups of people and even the same person may behave differently under different circumstances. To address these challenges, we propose a multilevel heterogeneous neural network, called MHNN, for sensor data analysis. We utilize multilevel discrete wavelet decomposition to extract multi-resolution features from sensor data. This enables distinguishing signals with different frequencies, thereby suppressing noise. As the components resulting from the decomposition are heterogeneous, we equip the proposed model with heterogeneous feature extractors that enable the learning of multi-scale features. Due to the complementarity of these features, we also include a cross aggregation module for enhancing their interactions. An experimental study using seven publicly available datasets offers evidence that MHNN can outperform other cutting-edge models and offers evidence of robustness to missing values and noise. An ablation study confirms the importance of each module.

Doubly-heavy tetraquark at finite temperature in a holographic model

In this paper, we employ gauge/gravity duality to investigate the string breaking and melting of doubly-heavy tetraquark that includes two heavy quarks and two light antiquarks in a holographic model at finite temperature. Firstly, we investigate four configurations of $\rm{QQ\bar{q}\bar{q}}$ in the confined phase and consider different separation distances of the heavy quarks at varying temperatures. At high temperature, $\rm{QQ\bar{q}\bar{q}}$ melts at certain distances and the confined quarks are released. As the temperature continues to increase, some configurations of doubly-heavy tetraquark can not exist. Furthermore, we investigate three decay modes of $\rm{QQ\bar{q}\bar{q}}$ and compare the potential energy of $\rm{QQ\bar{q}\bar{q}}$ with that of $\rm{QQq}$ at finite temperature .

Systematic study of unfavored $\mathcalα$ decay half-lives of closed shell nuclei related to ground and isomeric states

In present work, the unfavored $\mathcalα$ decay half-lives and $\mathcalα$ preformation probabilities of closed shell nuclei related to ground and isomeric states around $Z=82$, $N=82$ and 126 shell closures are investigated by adopting two-potential approach from the perspective of valence nucleon (hole) and isospin asymmetry of the parent nucleus. The results indicate that $\mathcalα$ preformation probability is linear dependence on $N_p N_n$ or $N_p N_n I$, the same as the case of favored $\mathcalα$ decay in our previous work [X.-D. Sun \textit{et al.}, Phys. Rev. C 94, 024338 (2016)]. $N_p$, $N_n$, and $I$ represent the number of valence protons (holes), the number of valence neutrons (holes), and the isospin of the parent nucleus, respectively. Fitting the $\mathrmα$ preformation probabilities data extracted from the differences between experimental data and calculated half-lives without a shell correction, we give two linear formulas of the $\mathcalα$ preformation probabilities and the values of corresponding parameters. Based on the formulas and corresponding parameters, we calculate the $\mathrmα$ decay half-lives for those nuclei. The calculated results can well reproduce the experimental data.
