Prescribing Oscillation Behavior of Solutions to the Heat Equation on $\mathbb{R}^n$ via the Initial Data and its Average Integral

\begin{abstract} Motivated by a classical stabilization result for solution to the Cauchy problem of the heat equation$\ \partial_{t}u=\bigtriangleup u\ $on $\mathbb{R}^{n}$, we consider its oscillation behavior with radial initial data $φ\left( x\right) =φ\left( \left\vert x\right\vert \right) \in C^{0}\left( \mathbb{R}^{n}\right) \bigcap L^{\infty}\left( \mathbb{R}^{n}\right) .\ $Given four arbitrary finite numbers $r<α <β<s,$ one can construct a radial $φ\in C^{0}\left( \mathbb{R}% ^{n}\right) \bigcap L^{\infty}\left( \mathbb{R}^{n}\right) $ so that $φ $together with its corresponding solution$\ u\left( x,t\right) $ satisfy the oscillation behavior: \begin{align*} \liminf_{τ\rightarrow\infty}φ\left( τ\right) & =r<\liminf _{t\rightarrow\infty}u\left( 0,t\right) =α & <\limsup_{t\rightarrow\infty}u\left( 0,t\right) =β<\limsup _{τ\rightarrow\infty}φ\left( τ\right) =s. \end{align*} Another related topic concerning the oscillation behavior of the average integral of the initial data is also discussed. \end{abstract}

Evolution of Locally Convex Closed Curves in Nonlocal Curvature Flows

We provide sufficient conditions on an initial curve for the area preserving and the length preserving curvature flows of curves in a plane, to develop a singularity at some finite time or converge to an $m$-fold circle as time goes to infinity. For the area-preserving flow, the positivity of the enclosed algebraic area determines whether the curvature blows up in finite time or not, while for the length-preserving flow, it is the positivity of an energy associated with initial curve that plays such a role.

On a General Linear Nonlocal Curvature Flow of Convex Plane Curves

Motivated by Pan-Yang [PY] and Ma-Cheng [MC], we study a general linear nonlocal curvature flow for convex closed plane curves and discuss the short time existence and asymptotic convergence behavior of the flow. Due to the linear structure of the flow, this partial differential equation problem can be resolved using an ordinary differential equation method, together with the help of representation formula for solutions to a linear heat equation.

Contracting Convex Immersed Closed Plane Curves with Slow Speed of Curvature

We study the contraction of a convex immersed plane curve with speed (1/α)k^{α}, where αin(0,1] is a constant and show that, if the blow-up rate of the curvature is of type one, it will converge to a homothetic self-similar solution. We also discuss a special symmetric case of type two blow-up and show that it converges to a translational self-similar solution. In the case of curve shortening flow (i.e., when α=1), this translational self-similar solution is the familiar "Grim Reaper" (a terminology due to M. Grayson [GR]).

Nonlocal Flow of Convex Plane Curves and Isoperimetric Inequalities

In the first part of the paper we survey some nonlocal flows of convex plane curves ever studied so far and discuss properties of the flows related to enclosed area and length, especially the isoperimetric ratio and the isoperimetric difference. We also study a new nonlocal flow of convex plane curves and discuss its evolution behavior. In the second part of the paper we discuss necessary and sufficient conditions (in terms of the (mixed) isoperimetric ratio or (mixed) isoperimetric difference) for two convex closed curves to be homothetic or parallel.
