Regular boundary points and the Dirichlet problem for elliptic equations in double divergence form

We study the Dirichlet problem for second-order elliptic operators in double divergence form, which arise as formal adjoints of non-divergence form operators and include the stationary Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov equation. Assuming that the leading coefficients have Dini mean oscillation and that the lower-order coefficients satisfy natural integrability conditions, we construct the Perron solution in arbitrary bounded domains. We prove that a boundary point is regular with respect to the operator if and only if it satisfies the classical Wiener criterion for the Laplacian. In particular, the Dirichlet problem is uniquely solvable in every bounded domain that is regular for the Laplacian.

Asymptotic stability of the $2D$ temperature-dependent tropical climate model with the sharp decay rates

We investigate the asymptotic stability of a tropical climate model posed on $\bR^2$, with temperature-dependent diffusion in the barotropic mode $u$ and linear damping in the first baroclinic mode $v$. We consider two distinct cases for the barotropic component: one with linear damping and one without. For both cases, we prove the small data global existence of smooth solutions. Furthermore, we establish sharp temporal decay estimates for solutions in arbitrary Sobolev norms $H^m (\bR^2)$, $m \ge 0$.

Large-time behavior of pressureless Euler--Poisson equations with background states

We study the large-time asymptotic behavior of solutions to the one-dimensional damped pressureless Euler-Poisson system with variable background states, subject to a neutrality condition. In the case where the background density converges asymptotically to a positive constant, we establish the convergence of global classical solutions toward the corresponding equilibrium state. The proof combines phase plane analysis with hypocoercivity-type estimates. As an application, we analyze the damped pressureless Euler--Poisson system arising in cold plasma ion dynamics, where the electron density is modeled by a Maxwell-Boltzmann relation. We show that solutions converge exponentially to the steady state under suitable a priori bounds on the density and velocity fields. Our results provide a rigorous characterization of asymptotic stability for damped Euler-Poisson systems with nontrivial background structures.

The Dirichlet problem for second-order elliptic equations in non-divergence form with continuous coefficients: The two-dimensional case

This paper investigates the Dirichlet problem for a non-divergence form elliptic operator $L$ in a bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^2$. Assuming that the principal coefficients satisfy the Dini mean oscillation condition, we establish the equivalence between regular points for $L$ and those for the Laplace operator. This result closes a gap left in the authors' recent work on higher-dimensional cases (Math. Ann. 392(1): 573--618, 2025). Furthermore, we construct the Green's function for $L$ in regular two-dimensional domains, extending a result by Dong and Kim (SIAM J. Math. Anal. 53(4): 4637--4656, 2021).

Convergence and non-convergence phenomena in Euler-Maxwell to MHD transitions

In this work, we investigate the difference estimate for a class of Euler-Maxwell system and those of magnetohydrodynamics (in short, MHD) systems in three dimensions. We decompose the Euler-Maxwell system into three parts, namely the MHD system, auxiliary linear system and error part system. As a result, we obtain the convergence of the velocity of the fluid $u$, electric fields $E$ and magnetic fields $B$ from the Euler-Maxwell system toward the MHD system in $L^{p}_{t}L^{2}_{x}$ as the speed of light $c$ approaches infinity for $p\in[1,\infty]$. We also derived non-convergence results of electric current $j$ or $cE$, and these results are classified by a certain threshold for $p$. Finally, we investigate how the $L^2$-energy flow of Euler-Maxwell system evolves as c tends to infinity, leading to the vanishing of Ampère's equation in the Euler-Maxwell system.

Regularity of elliptic equations in double divergence form and applications to Green's function estimates

We investigate the regularity of elliptic equations in double divergence form, where the leading coefficients satisfying the Dini mean oscillation condition. We prove that the solutions are differentiable on the zero level set and derive a pointwise bound for the derivative, which substantially improve a recent result by Leitão, Pimentel, and Santos (Anal. PDE 13(4):1129--1144, 2020). As an application, we establish global pointwise estimates for the Green's function of second-order uniformly elliptic operators in non-divergence form, considering Dini mean oscillation coefficients in bounded $C^{1,α}$ domains. This result extends a recent work by Chen and Wang (Electron. J. Probab. 28(36):54 pp, 2023).

The Dirichlet problem for second-order elliptic equations in non-divergence form with continuous coefficients

This paper investigates the Dirichlet problem for a non-divergence form elliptic operator $L$ in a bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^d$. Under certain conditions on the coefficients of $L$, we first establish the existence of a unique Green's function in a ball and derive two-sided pointwise estimates for it. Utilizing these results, we demonstrate the equivalence of regular points for $L$ and those for the Laplace operator, characterized via the Wiener test. This equivalence facilitates the unique solvability of the Dirichlet problem with continuous boundary data in regular domains. Furthermore, we construct the Green's function for $L$ in regular domains and establish pointwise bounds for it. This advancement is significant, as it extends the scope of existing estimates to domains beyond $C^{1,1}$, contributing to our understanding of elliptic operators in non-divergence form.

Critical thresholds in pressureless Euler--Poisson equations with background states

We investigate the critical threshold phenomena in a large class of one dimensional pressureless Euler--Poisson (EP) equations, with non-vanishing background states. First, we establish local-in-time well-posedness in proper regularity spaces, which are adapted for a certain \textit{neutrality condition} to hold. The neutrality condition is shown to be necessary: we construct smooth solutions that exhibit instantaneous failure of the neutrality condition, which in turn yields non-existence of solutions, even locally in time, in the classical Sobolev spaces $H^s({\mathbb R})$, $s \geq 2$. Next, we study the critical threshold phenomena in the neutrality-condition-satisfying pressureless EP systems, where we distinguish between two cases. We prove that in the case of attractive forcing, the neutrality condition can further restrict the sub-critical region into its borderline, namely -- the sub-critical region is reduced to a single line in the phase plane. We then turn to provide a rather definitive answer for the critical thresholds in the case of repulsive EP systems with variable backgrounds. As an application, we analyze the critical thresholds for the damped EP system for cold plasma ion dynamics, where the density of electrons is given by the \textit{Maxwell--Boltzmann relation}.
