Global existence for initial-boundary value problems of one-dimension quasilinear wave equations with null conditions

We consider the initial-boundary value problems on $\mathbb{R}^{+}\times \mathbb{R}^{+}$ for one-dimension systems of quasilinear wave equations with null conditions. We show that for homogeneous Dirichlet boundary values and sufficiently small initial data, classical solutions always globally exist. The key innovation in the proof is a new framework of bootstrap argument via coupled high-low order energy estimates.

Scattering and Rigidity for Nonlinear Elastic Waves

For the Cauchy problem of nonlinear elastic wave equations of three dimensional isotropic, homogeneous and hyperelastic materials satisfying the null condition, global existence of classical solutions with small initial data was proved in R. Agemi (Invent. Math. 142 (2000) 225--250) and T. C. Sideris (Ann. Math. 151(2000) 849--874), independently. In this paper, we will consider the asymptotic behavior of global solutions. We first show that the global solution will scatter, i.e., it will converge to some solution of linear elastic wave equations as time tends to infinity, in the energy sense. We also prove the following rigidity result: if the scattering data vanish, then the global solution will also vanish identically. The variational structure of the system will play a key role in our argument.

Global existence for a system of multiple-speed wave equations violating the null condition

We discuss the Cauchy problem for a system of semilinear wave equations in three space dimensions with multiple wave speeds. Though our system does not satisfy the standard null condition, we show that it admits a unique global solution for any small and smooth data. This generalizes a preceding result due to Pusateri and Shatah. The proof is carried out by the energy method involving a collection of generalized derivatives. The multiple wave speeds disable the use of the Lorentz boost operators, and our proof therefore relies upon the version of Klainerman and Sideris. Due to the presence of nonlinear terms violating the standard null condition, some of components of the solution may have a weaker decay as $t\to\infty$, which makes it difficult even to establish a mildly growing (in time) bound for the high energy estimate. We overcome this difficulty by relying upon the ghost weight energy estimate of Alinhac and the Keel-Smith-Sogge type $L^2$ weighted space-time estimate for derivatives.

On one-dimension quasilinear wave equations with null conditions

In this paper, we show that one-dimension systems of quasilinear wave equations with null conditions admit global classical solutions for small initial data. This result extends Luli, Yang and Yu's seminal work [G. Luli, S. Yang, P. Yu, On one-dimension semi-linear wave equations with null conditions, Adv. Math.329 (2018) 174-188] from the semilinear case to the quasilinear case. Furthermore, we also prove that the global solution is asymptotically free in the energy sense. In order to achieve these goals, we will employ Luli, Yang and Yu's weighted energy estimates with positive weights, introduce some space-time weighted energy estimates and pay some special attentions to the highest order energies, then use some suitable bootstrap process to close the argument.

Remarks on a system of quasi-linear wave equations in $3$D satisfying the weak null condition

We give an alternative proof of the global existence result originally due to Hidano and Yokoyama for the Cauchy problem for a system of quasi-linear wave equations in three space dimensions satisfying the weak null condition. The feature of the new proof lies in that it never uses the Lorentz boost operator in the energy integral argument. The proof presented here has an advantage over the former one in that the assumption of compactness of the support of data can be eliminated and the amount of regularity of data can be lowered in a straightforward manner. A recent result of Zha for the scalar unknowns is also refined.

Space-time $L^2$ estimates, regularity and almost global existence for elastic waves

In this paper, we first establish a kind of weighted space-time $L^2$ estimate, which belongs to Keel-Smith-Sogge type estimates, for perturbed linear elastic wave equations. This estimate refines the corresponding one established by the second author [J. Differential Equations 263(2017), 1947--1965] and is proved by combining the methods in the former paper, the first author, Wang and Yokoyama's paper [Adv. Differential Equations 17 (2012), 267--306], and some new ingredients. Then together with some weighted Sobolev inequalities, this estimate is used to show a refined version of almost global existence of classical solutions for nonlinear elastic waves with small initial data. Compared with former almost global existence results for nonlinear elastic waves due to John [Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 41 (1988) 615--666], Klaierman-Sideris [Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 49 (1996) 307--321], the main innovation of our one is that it considerably improves the amount of regularity of initial data, i.e., the Sobolev regularity of initial data is assumed to be the smallest among all the admissible Sobolev spaces of integer order in the standard local existence theory. Finally, in the radially symmetric case, we establish the almost global existence of a low regularity solution for every small initial data in $H^3\times H^2$.

Global low regularity solutions for nonlinear elastic waves

We study the Cauchy problem for 3-D nonlinear elastic waves satisfying the null condition with low regularity initial data. In the radially symmetric case, we prove the global existence of a low regularity solution for every small data in $H^3\times H^2$ with a low weight.

Remarks on Nonlinear Elastic Waves in the Radial Symmetry in 2-D

In this manuscript we first give the explicit variational structure of the nonlinear elastic waves for isotropic, homogeneous, hyperelastic materials in 2-D. Based on this variational structure, we suggest a null condition which is a kind of structural condition on the nonlinearity in order to stop the formation of finite time singularities of local smooth solutions. In the radial symmetric case, inspired by Alinhac's work [3] on 2-D quasilinear wave equations, we show that such null condition can ensure the globalexistence of smooth solutions with small initial data.

Lifespan of Classical Solutions to Quasilinear Wave Equations Outside of a Star-Shaped Obstacle in Four Space Dimensions

We study the initial-boundary value problem of quasilinear wave equations outside of a star-shaped obstacle in four space dimensions, in which the nonlinear term under consideration may explicitly depend on the unknown function itself. By some new $L^{\infty}_{t}L^{2}_{x}$ and weighted $L^{2}_{t,x}$ estimates for the unknown function itself, together with energy estimates and KSS estimates, for the quasilinear obstacle problem we obtain a lower bound of the lifespan $T_{\varepsilon}\geq \exp{(\frac{c}{\varepsilon^2})}$, which coincides with the sharp lower bound of lifespan estimate for the corresponding Cauchy problem.
