Coordination Engineering of Cu-Zn-Sn-S Aqueous Precursor for Efficient Kesterite Solar Cells

Aqueous precursors provide an alluring approach for low-cost and environmentally friendly production of earth-abundant Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 (CZTSSe) solar cells. The key is to find an appropriate molecular agent to prepare a stable solution and optimize the coordination structure to facilitate the subsequent crystallization process. Herein, we introduce thioglycolic acid, which possesses strong coordination (-SH) and hydrophilic (-COOH) groups, as the agent and use deprotonation to regulate the coordination competition within the aqueous solution. Ultimately, metal cations are adequately coordinated with thiolate anions, and carboxylate anions are released to become hydrated to form an ultrastable aqueous solution. These factors have contributed to achieving CZTSSe solar cells with efficiency of as high as 12.2% (a certified efficiency of 12.0%) and providing an extremely wide time window for precursor storage and usage. This work represents significant progress in the non-toxic solution fabrication of CZTSSe solar cells and holds great potential for the development of CZTSSe and other metal sulfide solar cells.

Exploiting Electrical Transients to Reveal Charge Loss Mechanism of Junction Solar Cells

Electrical transients enabled by optical excitation and electric detection provide a distinctive opportunity to study the charge transport, recombination and even the hysteresis of a solar cell in a much wider time window ranging from nanoseconds to seconds. However, controversies on how to exploit these investigations to unravel the charge loss mechanism of the cell have been ongoing. Herein, a new methodology of quantifying the charge loss within the bulk absorber or at the interfaces and the defect properties of junction solar cells has been proposed after the conventional tail-state framework is firstly demonstrated to be unreasonable. This methodology has been successfully applied in the study of commercialized silicon and emerging Cu2ZnSn(S, Se)4 and perovskite solar cells herein and should be universal to other photovoltaic device systems with similar structures. Overall, this work provides an alluring route for comprehensive investigation of dynamic physics processes and charge loss mechanism of junction solar cells and possesses potential applications for other optoelectronic devices.

Clearly Discriminate the Continuum Band and Exciton State of the Hybrid Lead Bromide Perovskite

Electronic states of the hybrid perovskite enable their promising applications as distinctive optoelectronic materials. The understanding of their electronic structures and charge characters remains highly controversial. The electronic mechanism such as reabsorption, Urbach tail and indirect band for interpreting dual-peak emissions is one of the controversial focuses. Herein, we report that through heterojunction enhanced exciton dissociation and global tracing of multiple radiative electronic states across wide temperature regions, we have succeeded in directly observing free carrier emissions from the hybrid lead bromide perovskite and clearly discriminating the direct continuum band and exciton states. The widely-concerned dual-peak emissions are clarified to be excitonic, arising from two types of exciton states of the perovskite. These excitons possess giant binding energies and superior phase stability compared to conventional inorganic semiconductors, providing important implications for exploiting the excitonic mechanism for realizing novel optoelectronic applications.

Low-threshold Stimulated Emission of Hybrid Perovskites at Room Temperature through Defect-Mediated Bound Excitons

Excitonic stimulated emission provides a promising mechanism and route to achieve low-threshold semiconductor lasers for micro-nano optoelectronic integrations. However, excitonic stimulated emission from quantum structure-free semiconductors has rarely been realised at room temperature due to the phase transition between excitonic and electron-hole plasma states. Herein, we show that through trap-state and band-edge engineering, bound exciton states can be stabilised within the hybrid lead bromide perovskite. Under modest pumping conditions, these states enable stimulated emission behaviour that exhibits a low threshold carrier density of only 1.6*1017 cm-3, as well as a high peak gain coefficient of ~1300 cm-1. This is the first time that bound exciton stimulated emission has been realised at room temperature from a quantum structure-free semiconductor. Not only does this open up new research horizons for perovskite materials, but also it has important implications for semiconductor excitonic physics and the development of next-generation optoelectronic applications.

The Hermite ring conjecture and special linear groups for valuation rings

In this paper we prove that the Hermite ring conjecture holds for valuation rings $V$, and the special liner group $SL_n(V[x])$ coincides with the group generated by elementary matrices $E_n(V[x])$ for $n\geq3$. For any arithmetical ring $R$ and $n\geq3$, we show $SL_n(R[x]) = SL_n(R)\cdot E_n(R[x])$.

Identification of Free and Bound Exciton States and Their Phase-Dependent Trapping Behavior in Lead Halide Perovskites

In this work we probe the sub-gap energy states within polycrystalline and single crystal lead halide perovskites to better understand their intrinsic photophysics behaviors. Through combined temperature and intensity-dependent optical measurements, we reveal the existence of both free and bound exciton contributions within the sub-gap energy state manifold. The trapping and recombination dynamics of these excitons is shown to be strongly dependent on the structural phase of the perovskite. The orthorhombic phase exhibits ultrafast exciton trapping and distinct trap emission, while the tetragonal phase gives low monomolecular recombination velocity and capture cross-sections (~10-18 cm2). Within the multiphonon transition scenario, this suppression in charge trapping is caused by the increase in the charge capture activation energy due to the reduction in electron-lattice interactions, which can be the origin for the unexpected long carrier lifetime in these material systems.

The qualitative analysis of the impact of media delay on the control of infectious disease

In this paper, we consider the impact of time delay by media on the control of the disease. We set up a class of SISM epidemic model with the time delay and the cumulative density of awareness caused by media. The sufficient condition of global asymptotic stability of disease-free equilibrium is approved. We get the global stability of the epidemic equilibrium and the existence conditions of Hopf bifurcation. Numerical simulations are presented to illustrate the analytical results. Finally, we analyze the influence of parameters on the control of infectious disease by combining the data of H1N1. By shortening the time of media lag, increasing transmission rate of media and the implementation rate of the media project, the spread of disease will be controlled effectively.

A Family of Totally Rank One Two-sided Shift Maps

'Generalized del Junco-Rudolph's map', a sub-family of generalized Chacon's map (\cite{FER1}), is introduced. A skew product related to the structure of the Generalized del Junco-Rudolph's map is introduced. A Relative Prime Relation, $h_{k+1}\equiv 1 \mod q$ is verified, based on the proposition of iterations of this skew product. We say a measure-preserving transformation $T$ is totally rank one if $T^{q}$ is rank one for every $q\in \mathbb{N}$. In this paper, we show that of every Generalized del Junco-Rudolph's map is totally rank one.

Totally Rank One Interval Exchange Transformations

For irreducible interval exchange transformations, we study the relation between the powers of induced map and the induced maps of powers and raise a condition of equivalence between them. And skew production of Rauzy induction map is set up and verified to be ergodic regard to a product measure. Then we prove that almost all the interval exchange transformations are totally rank one (rank one for all powers of positive integers) by interval. As a corollary, for almost all interval exchange transformations, rank one transformations are dense $G_δ$ in the weak closure.

Interplays between charge and electric field in perovskite solar cells: charge transport, recombination and hysteresis

Interplays between charge and electric field, which play a critical role in determining the charge transport, recombination, storage and hysteresis in the perovskite solar cell, have been systematically investigated by both electrical transient experiments and theoretical calculations. It is found that the light illumination can increase the carrier concentration in the perovskite absorber, thus enhancing charge recombination and causing the co-existence of high electric field and free carriers. Meanwhile, the cell shows a similar charge storage and junction mechanism to that of the multicrystalline silicon solar cell, where the junction electric field determines the charge collection and distribution. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the static charge of both the doping and defect coming from ion (vacancy) migration can significantly influence the electric field inside the cell, thus affecting the charge collection and recombination, which could be the origins for the widely-concerned hysteresis behaviors.

Pressure-induced amorphization and polyamorphism in one-dimensional single crystal TiO2 nanomaterials

The structural phase transitions of single crystal TiO2-B nanoribbons were investigated in-situ at high-pressure using the synchrotron X-ray diffraction and the Raman scattering. Our results have shown a pressure-induced amorphization (PIA) occurred in TiO2-B nanoribbons upon compression, resulting in a high density amorphous (HDA) form related to the baddeleyite structure. Upon decompression, the HDA form transforms to a low density amorphous (LDA) form while the samples still maintain their pristine nanoribbon shape. HRTEM imaging reveals that the LDA phase has an α-PbO2 structure with short range order. We propose a homogeneous nucleation mechanism to explain the pressure-induced amorphous phase transitions in the TiO2-B nanoribbons. Our study demonstrates for the first time that PIA and polyamorphism occurred in the one-dimensional (1D) TiO2 nanomaterials and provides a new method for preparing 1D amorphous nanomaterials from crystalline nanomaterials.
