On open well-filtered spaces

We introduce and study a new class of $T_0$ spaces, called open well-filtered spaces. The main results we proved include (1) every well-filtered space is an open well-filtered space; (2) every core-compact open well-filtered space is sober. As an immediate corollary, we deduce that every core-compact well-filtered space is sober. This provides another different and relatively more straight forward method to answer the open problem posed by Jia and Jung: Is every core-compact well-filtered space sober?

$ω$-Rudin spaces, well-filtered determined spaces and first-countable spaces

We investigate some versions of $d$-space, well-filtered space and Rudin space concerning various countability properties. The main results include: (i) if the sobrification of a $T_0$ space $X$ is first-countable, then $X$ is an $ω$-Rudin space; (ii) every $ω$-well-filtered space is sober if its sobrification is first-countable; (iii) if a $T_0$ space is second-countable or first-countable and with a countable underlying set, then it is a $ω$-Rudin space; (iv) every first-countable $T_0$ space is well-filtered determined; (v) every irreducible closed subset in a first-countable $ω$-well-filtered space is countably-directed; (vi) every first-countable $ω$-well-filtered $ω^\ast$-$d$-space is sober.

Some open problems on well-filtered spaces and sober spaces

In the past few years, the research on sober spaces and well-filtered spaces has got some breakthrough progress. In this paper, we shall present a brief summarising survey on some of such development. Furthermore, we shall pose and illustrate some open problems on well-filtered spaces and sober spaces.

On topological Rudin's lemma, well-filtered spaces and sober spaces

Based on topological Rudin's Lemma, we investigate two new kinds of sets - Rudin sets and well-filtered determined sets in $T_0$ topological spaces. Using such sets, we formulate and prove some new characterizations for well-filtered spaces and sober spaces. Part of the work was inspired by Xi and Lawson's work on well-filtered spaces. Our study also lead to a new class of spaces - strong $d$-spaces and some problems whose solutions will strengthen our understanding of the related structures.

On $T_0$ spaces determined by well-filtered spaces

We first introduce and study two new classes of subsets in $T_0$ spaces - Rudin sets and $\wdd$ sets lying between the class of all closures of directed subsets and that of irreducible closed subsets. Using such subsets, we define three new types of topological spaces - $\mathsf{DC}$ spaces, Rudin spaces and $\wdd$ spaces. The class of Rudin spaces lie between the class of $\wdd$ spaces and that of $\dc$ spaces, while the class of $\dc$ spaces lies between the class of Rudin spaces and that of sober spaces. Using Rudin sets and $\wdd$ sets, we formulate and prove a number of new characterizations of well-filtered spaces and sober spaces. For a $T_0$ space $X$, it is proved that $X$ is sober if{}f $X$ is a well-filtered Rudin space if{}f $X$ is a well-filtered $\mathsf{WD}$ space. We also prove that every locally compact $T_0$ space is a Rudin space, and every core compact $T_0$ space is a $\wdd$ space. One immediate corollary is that every core compact well-filtered space is sober, giving a positive answer to Jia-Jung problem. Using $\wdd$ sets, we present a more directed construction of the well-filtered reflections of $T_0$ spaces, and prove that the products of any collection of well-filtered spaces are well-filtered. Our study also leads to a number of problems, whose answering will deepen our understanding of the related spaces and structures.

Existence of well-filterifications of $T_0$ topological spaces

We prove that for every $T_0$ space $X$, there is a well-filtered space $W(X)$ and a continuous mapping $η_X: X\lra W(X)$ such that for any well-filtered space $Y$ and any continuous mapping $f: X\lra Y$ there is a unique continuous mapping $\hat{f}: W(X)\lra Y$ such that $f=\hat{f}\circ η_X$. Such a space $W(X)$ will be called the well-filterification of $X$. This result gives a positive answer to one of the major open problems on well-filtered spaces. Another result on well-filtered spaces we will prove is that the product of two well-filtered spaces is well-filtered.

A complete Heyting algebra whose Scott space is non-sober

We prove that (1) for any complete lattice $L$, the set $\mathcal{D}(L)$ of all nonempty saturated compact subsets of the Scott space of $L$ is a complete Heyting algebra (with the reverse inclusion order); and (2) if the Scott space of a complete lattice $L$ is non-sober, then the Scott space of $\mathcal{D}(L)$ is non-sober. Using these results and the Isbell's example of a non-sober complete lattice, we deduce that there is a complete Heyting algebra whose Scott space is non-sober, thus give a positive answer to a problem posed by Jung. We will also prove that a $T_0$ space is well-filtered iff its upper space (the set $\mathcal{D}(X)$ of all nonempty saturated compact subsets of $X$ equipped with the upper Vietoris topology) is well-filtered, which answers another open problem.

Uniqueness of directed complete posets based on Scott closed set lattices

In analogy to a result due to Drake and Thron about topological spaces, this paper studies the dcpos (directed complete posets) which are fully determined, among all dcpos, by their lattices of all Scott-closed subsets (such dcpos will be called $C_σ$-unique). We introduce the notions of down-linear element and quasicontinuous element in dcpos, and use them to prove that dcpos of certain classes, including all quasicontinuous dcpos as well as Johnstone's and Kou's examples, are $C_σ$-unique. As a consequence, $C_σ$-unique dcpos with their Scott topologies need not be bounded sober.

Faithfulness of Directed Complete Posets based on Scott Closed Set Lattices

By Thron, a topological space $X$ has the property that $C(X)$ isomorphic to $C(Y)$ implies $X$ is homeomorphic to $Y$ iff $X$ is sober and $T_D$, where $C(X)$ and $C(Y)$ denote the lattices of closed sets of $X$ and $T_0$ space $Y$, respectively. When we consider dcpos (directed complete posets) equipped their Scott topologies, a similar question arises: which dcpos $P$ have the property that for any dcpo $Q$, $C_σ(P)$ isomorphic to $C_σ(Q)$ implies $P$ is isomorphic to $Q$ (such a dcpo $P$ will be called Scott closed set lattice faithful, or SCL-faithful in short)? Here $C_σ(P)$ and $C_σ(Q)$ denote the lattices of Scott closed sets of $P$ and $Q$, respectively. Following a characterization of continuous (quasicontinuous) dcpos in terms of $C_σ(P)$, one easily deduces that every continuous (quasicontinuous) dcpo is SCL-faithful. Note that the Scott space of every continuous (quasicontinuous) dcpo is sober. Compared with Thron's result, one naturally asks whether every SCL-faithful dcpo is sober (with the Scott topology). In this paper we shall prove that some classes of dcpos are SCL-faithful, these classes contain some dcpos whose Scott topologies are not bounded sober. These results will help to obtain a complete characterization of SCL-faithful dcpos in the future.

Join-continuity + Hypercontinuity = Prime continuity

A remarkable result due to Kou, Liu & Luo states that the condition of continuity for a dcpo can be split into quasi-continuity and meet-continuity. Their argument contained a gap, however, which is probably why the authors of the monograph Continuous Lattices and Domains used a different (and fairly sophisticated) sequence of lemmas in order to establish the result. In this note we show that by considering the Stone dual, that is, the lattice of Scott-open subsets, a straightforward proof may be given. We do this by showing that a complete lattice is prime-continuous if and only if it is join-continuous and hypercontinuous. A pleasant side effect of this approach is that the characterisation of continuity by Kou, Liu & Luo also holds for posets, not just dcpos.
