Existence of free boundary minimal disks in convex regions

We show that any three-ball with mean convex boundary contains an embedded free boundary minimal disk. Moreover, when the three-ball is a strictly convex domain with nonnegative Ricci curvature (for instance, a compact convex domain in Euclidean three-space), we prove the existence of at least three embedded free boundary minimal disks. Our approach is based on a multiplicity-one theorem for the free boundary Simon-Smith min-max theory.

Stable 2-systole bounds in positive scalar curvature

We prove that the stable 2-systole is uniformly bounded on the space of Riemannian metrics with scalar curvature at least one for closed spin 2-essential manifolds, which includes $S^2 \times S^2$, $S^2 \times T^n$, and $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^{2n+1}$.

Index, Intersections, and Multiplicity of Min-Max Geodesics

We prove upper bounds for the Morse index and number of intersections of min-max geodesics achieving the $p$-widths of a closed surface. A key tool in our analysis is a proof that for a generic set of metrics, the tangent cone at any vertex of any finite union of closed immersed geodesics consists of exactly two lines. We also construct examples to demonstrate that multiplicity one does not hold generically in this setting. Specifically, we construct an open set of metrics on $S^2$ for which the $p$-width is only achieved by $p$ copies of a single geodesic.

Min-max construction of prescribed mean curvature hypersurfaces in noncompact manifolds

We develop a min-max theory for hypersurfaces of prescribed mean curvature in noncompact manifolds, applicable to prescription functions that do not change sign outside a compact set. We use this theory to prove new existence results for closed prescribed mean curvature hypersurfaces in Euclidean space and complete finite area constant mean curvature hypersurfaces in finite volume manifolds.

Complete stable minimal hypersurfaces in positively curved 4-manifolds

We show that the combination of non-negative sectional curvature (or $2$-intermediate Ricci curvature) and strict positivity of scalar curvature forces rigidity of complete (non-compact) two-sided stable minimal hypersurfaces in a $4$-manifold with bounded curvature. In particular, this implies the nonexistence of complete two-sided stable minimal hypersurface in a closed $4$-manifold with positive sectional curvature. Our work leads to new comparison results. We also construct various examples showing rigidity of stable minimal hypersurfaces can fail under other curvature conditions.

Localization of min-max minimal hypersurfaces

We show that min-max minimal hypersurfaces can be localized. As a consequence, we obtain the sharp generalization to complete manifolds of the famous Almgren-Pitts min-max theorem in closed manifolds. We use this result to prove the existence of a complete embedded finite area minimal hypersurface of index at most one in every balanced complete manifold.

Existence of closed embedded curves of constant curvature via min-max

We find conditions under which Almgren-Pitts min-max for the prescribed geodesic curvature functional in a closed oriented Riemannian surface produces a closed embedded curve of constant curvature. In particular, we find a closed embedded curve of any prescribed constant curvature in any metric on $S^2$ with $1/8$-pinched Gaussian curvature.

Twisted Traces and Positive Forms on Quantized Kleinian Singularities of Type A

Following [Beem C., Peelaers W., Rastelli L., Comm. Math. Phys. 354 (2017), 345-392, arXiv:1601.05378] and [Etingof P., Stryker D., SIGMA 16 (2020), 014, 28 pages, arXiv:1909.13588], we undertake a detailed study of twisted traces on quantizations of Kleinian singularities of type $A_{n-1}$. In particular, we give explicit integral formulas for these traces and use them to determine when a trace defines a positive Hermitian form on the corresponding algebra. This leads to a classification of unitary short star-products for such quantizations, a problem posed by Beem, Peelaers and Rastelli in connection with 3-dimensional superconformal field theory. In particular, we confirm their conjecture that for $n\le 4$ a unitary short star-product is unique and compute its parameter as a function of the quantization parameters, giving exact formulas for the numerical functions by Beem, Peelaers and Rastelli. If $n=2$, this, in particular, recovers the theory of unitary spherical Harish-Chandra bimodules for ${\mathfrak{sl}}_2$. Thus the results of this paper may be viewed as a starting point for a generalization of the theory of unitary Harish-Chandra bimodules over enveloping algebras of reductive Lie algebras [Vogan Jr. D.A., Annals of Mathematics Studies, Vol. 118, Princeton University Press, Princeton, NJ, 1987] to more general quantum algebras. Finally, we derive recurrences to compute the coefficients of short star-products corresponding to twisted traces, which are generalizations of discrete Painlevé systems.

Volume growth of 3-manifolds with scalar curvature lower bounds

We give a new proof of a recent result of Munteanu--Wang relating scalar curvature to volume growth on a $3$-manifold with non-negative Ricci curvature. Our proof relies on the theory of $μ$-bubbles introduced by Gromov as well as the almost splitting theorem due to Cheeger--Colding.

Codimension Bounds and Rigidity of Ancient Mean Curvature Flows by the Tangent Flow at $-\infty$

Motivated by the limiting behavior of an explicit class of compact ancient curve shortening flows, we prove codimension bounds for ancient mean curvature flows by their tangent flow at $-\infty$, generalizing a theorem for cylinders in [CM19b]. In the case of the $m$-covered circle, we apply this bound to prove a strong rigidity theorem. Furthermore, we extend this paradigm by showing that under the assumption of sufficiently rapid convergence, a compact ancient mean curvature flow is identical to its tangent flow at $-\infty$.

Short Star-Products for Filtered Quantizations, I

We develop a theory of short star-products for filtered quantizations of graded Poisson algebras, introduced in 2016 by Beem, Peelaers and Rastelli for algebras of regular functions on hyperKähler cones in the context of 3-dimensional $N=4$ superconformal field theories [Beem C., Peelaers W., Rastelli L., Comm. Math. Phys. 354 (2017), 345-392, arXiv:1601.05378]. This appears to be a new structure in representation theory, which is an algebraic incarnation of the non-holomorphic ${\rm SU}(2)$-symmetry of such cones. Using the technique of twisted traces on quantizations (an idea due to Kontsevich), we prove the conjecture by Beem, Peelaers and Rastelli that short star-products depend on finitely many parameters (under a natural nondegeneracy condition), and also construct these star products in a number of examples, confirming another conjecture by Beem, Peelaers and Rastelli.

Construction of High Codimension Ancient Mean Curvature Flows

We construct a class of compact ancient solutions to the mean curvature flow in Euclidean space with high codimension. In particular, we construct higher codimensional ancient curve shortening flows. Moreover, we characterize the asymptotic behavior of these solutions. Add on remark: the construction in this paper has been discovered by Altschuler D.-Altschuler S.-Angenent-Wu in [AAAW13].
