W-algebras as conformal extensions of affine VOAs

We provide a criterion for a vertex operator superalgebra homomorphism from an affine vertex algebra to another vertex superalgebra to be conformal, and an additional criterion that guarantees that this homomorphism is surjective. This situation is applied to W-algebras and W-superalgebras and we list all cases where our criterion applies. This gives many new examples of W-algebras that collapse to affine vertex algebras or are conformal extensions. In particular, we provide many examples of simple W-algebras at non-admissible levels that collapse to admissible level affine vertex algebras.

Character Identities Between Affine and Virasoro Vertex Operator Algebra Modules

The affine vertex operator algebras for $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ and the Virasoro minimal models are related by Drinfeld-Sokolov reduction and by the Goddard-Kent-Olive coset construction. In this work, we propose another connection based on certain character identities between these vertex operator algebras and their modules. This relates the simple affine vertex operator algebras $L_k(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ at admissible levels $k=-2+q/p$ to the rational $(q,3p)$-minimal models $L_\mathrm{Vir}(c_{q,3p},0)$, and also extends to the nonadmissible levels with $q=1$. Several special cases are particularly interesting. In the nonadmissible case $q=1$, the character identities extend to certain abelian intertwining algebras, specifically $\mathcal{V}^{(p)}$ and the doublet $\mathcal{A}^{(3p)}$. Specialising further to $p=2$, where $\mathcal{V}^{(2)}$ is the simple small $\mathcal{N}=4$ superconformal algebra of central charge $c=-9$, this recovers, via the 4d/2d-correspondence, a known identity between the Schur indices of the 4d $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory for $\mathrm{SU}(2)$ and the 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ $(3,2)$ Argyres-Douglas theory. In the boundary admissible case $q=2$, in a similar vein, we obtain an identity between the Schur indices of 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ Argyres-Douglas theories of types $(A_1,D_{2n+1})$ and $(A_1,A_{6n})$. On the other hand, for integral levels, $p=1$, where both involved vertex operator algebras are strongly rational, our character identity induces a Galois conjugation between the representation categories $\mathrm{Rep}(L_{-2+q}(\mathfrak{sl}_2))$ and $\mathrm{Rep}(L_\mathrm{Vir}(c_{q,3},0))$; and for small values of $q$, the characters are related by the action of certain Hecke operators. Finally, we also sketch how to extend the results of this paper to relaxed highest-weight and Whittaker modules.

Irreducibility of Certain $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2$-Modules of Wakimoto Type

We investigate the irreducible smooth $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_{2}$-modules recently constructed in [Adv. Math. 481 (2025), 110559, 34 pages, arXiv:2404.03855], and demonstrate that these modules admit a Wakimoto-type realization at both critical and non-critical levels. In the critical level case, we identify simple quotients of these modules with the Wakimoto modules whose irreducibility was already established by Adamović. We also generalize some Wakimoto modules constructed in [Adv. Math. 289 (2016), 438-479, arXiv:1409.5354] and identify them as generalized Whittaker modules.

A new quasi-lisse affine vertex algebra of type $D_4$

We consider a family of potential quasi-lisse affine vertex algebras $L_{k_m}(D_4)$ at levels $k_m =-6 + \frac{4}{2m+1}$. In the case $m=0$, the irreducible $L_{k_0}(D_4)$--modules were classified in arXiv:1205.3003, and it was proved in arXiv:1610.05865 that $L_{k_0}(D_4)$ is a quasi-lisse vertex algebra. We conjecture that $L_{k_m}(D_4)$ is quasi-lisse for every $m \in {\mathbb{Z}}_{>0}$, and that it contains a unique irreducible ordinary module. In this article we prove this conjecture for $m=1$, by using mostly computational methods. We show that the maximal ideal in the universal affine vertex algebra $V^{k_1}(D_4)$ is generated by three singular vectors of conformal weight six. The explicit formulas were obtained using software. Then we apply Zhu's theory and classify all irreducible $L_{k_1}(D_4)$--modules. It turns out that $L_{k_1}(D_4)$ has $405$ irreducible modules in the category $\mathcal O$, but a unique irreducible ordinary module. Finally, we prove that $L_{k_1}(D_4)$ is quasi-lisse by showing that its associated variety is contained in the nilpotent cone of $D_4$. We also prove that the associated variety $X_{L_{k_1}(D_4)}$ is $\overline{\mathbb O}_{sreg}$, the Zariski closure of the subregular nilpotent orbit in $D_4$.

Center of the affine $\mathfrak{gl}_{n|1}$ at the critical level and pseudo-differential operators

We prove that the center of the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}_{n|1}$ at the critical level is generated by the coefficients in the expansion of the pseudo-differential operator $(\partial_z-u_1(z))\cdots (\partial_z-u_n(z))(\partial_z+u_{n+1}(z))^{-1}$ taking values in the Cartan subalgebra. This is an affine analogue of the Harish-Chandra isomorphism in the finite case. The key ingredient of the proof is the identification of the center with the Heisenberg coset of the regular W-superalgebra of $\mathfrak{gl}_{n|1}$ at the critical level, whose associated graded algebra is realized as the affine supersymmetric polynomials. Based on this, we derive a character formula for the center, which coincides with the generating function of plane partitions with a pit condition. We also prove that the Heisenberg coset at generic levels has a similar interpretation in terms of pseudo-differential operators that deform the one at the critical level.

On Kazama-Suzuki Duality between $\mathcal{W}_k(\mathfrak{sl}_4, f_{\rm sub})$ and $N=2$ Superconformal Vertex Algebra

We classify all possible occurrences of Kazama-Suzuki duality between the ${N=2}$ superconformal algebra $L^{N=2}_c$ and the subregular $\mathcal{W}$-algebra $\mathcal{W}_{k}(\mathfrak{sl}_4, f_{\rm sub})$. We establish a new Kazama-Suzuki duality between the subregular $\mathcal{W}$-algebra $\mathcal{W}_k(\mathfrak{sl}_4, f_{\rm sub})$ and the $N = 2$ superconformal algebra $L^{N=2}_{c}$ for $c=-15$. As a consequence of the duality, we classify the irreducible $\mathcal{W}_{k=-1}(\mathfrak{sl}_4, f_{\rm sub})$-modules.

Semisimplicity of module categories of certain affine vertex operator superalgebras

In this paper, we show Kazhdan-Lusztig categories, that is, the categories of lower bounded generalized weight modules for certain affine vertex operator superalgebras that are locally finite modules of the underlying finite dimensional Lie superalgebra, are semisimple. Those are all representation categories of affine vertex operator superalgebras at conformal but non admissible levels. As a consequence, the categories of finite length generalized modules for these affine vertex operator superalgebras have braided tensor category structures.

Defining relations for minimal unitary quantum affine W-algebras

We prove that any unitary highest weight module over a universal minimal quantum affine $W$-algebra at non-critical level descends to its simple quotient. We find the defining relations of the unitary simple minimal quantum affine $W$-algebras and the list of all their irreducible positive energy modules. We also classify all irreducible highest weight modules for the simple affine vertex algebras in the cases when the associated simple minimal $W$-algebra is unitary.

Conformal embeddings in affine vertex superalgebras

This paper is a natural continuation of our previous work on conformal embeddings of vertex algebras [6], [7], [8]. Here we consider conformal embeddings in simple affine vertex superalgebra $V_k(\mathfrak g)$ where $\mathfrak g=\mathfrak g_{\bar 0}\oplus \mathfrak g_{\bar 1}$ is a basic classical simple Lie superalgebras. Let $\mathcal V_k (\mathfrak g_{\bar 0})$ be the subalgebra of $V_k(\mathfrak g)$ generated by $\mathfrak g_{\bar 0}$. We first classify all levels $k$ for which the embedding $\mathcal V_k (\mathfrak g_{\bar 0})$ in $V_k(\mathfrak g)$ is conformal. Next we prove that, for a large family of such conformal levels, $V_k(\mathfrak g)$ is a completely reducible $\mathcal V_k (\mathfrak g_{\bar 0})$--module and obtain decomposition rules. Proofs are based on fusion rules arguments and on the representation theory of certain affine vertex algebras. The most interesting case is the decomposition of $V_{-2} (osp(2n +8 \vert 2n))$ as a finite, non simple current extension of $V_{-2} (D_{n+4}) \otimes V_1 (C_n)$. This decomposition uses our previous work [10] on the representation theory of $V_{-2} (D_{n+4})$.

The Vertex Algebra $M(1)^+$ and Certain Affine Vertex Algebras of Level -1

We give a coset realization of the vertex operator algebra $M(1)^+$ with central charge $\ell$. We realize $M(1)^+$ as a commutant of certain affine vertex algebras of level -1 in the vertex algebra $L_{C_{\ell} ^{(1)}}(-\tfrac{1}{2}Λ_0) \otimes L_{C_{\ell} ^{(1)}}(-\tfrac{1}{2}Λ_0)$. We show that the simple vertex algebra $L_{C_{\ell} ^{(1)}}(-Λ_0)$ can be (conformally) embedded into $L_{A_{2 \ell -1} ^{(1)}} (-Λ_0)$ and find the corresponding decomposition. We also study certain coset subalgebras inside $L_{C_{\ell} ^{(1)}}(-Λ_0)$.
