Subprojectivity in abelian categories

In the last few years, Lopez-Permouth and several collaborators have introduced a new approach in the study of the classical projectivity, injectivity and flatness of modules. This way, they introduced subprojectivity domains of modules as a tool to measure, somehow, the projectivity level of such a module (so not just to determine whether or not the module is projective). In this paper we develop a new treatment of the subprojectivity in any abelian category which shed more light on some of its various important aspects. Namely, in terms of subprojectivity, some classical results are unified and some classical rings are characterized. It is also shown that, in some categories, the subprojectivity measures notions other than the projectivity. Furthermore, this new approach allows, in addition to establishing nice generalizations of known results, to construct various new examples such as the subprojectivity domain of the class of Gorenstein projective objects, the class of semi-projective complexes and particular types of representations of a finite linear quiver. The paper ends with a study showing that the fact that a subprojectivity domain of a class coincides with its first right Ext-orthogonal class can be characterized in terms of the existence of preenvelopes and precovers.

Gorenstein n-X-injective and n-X-flat modules with respect to a special finitely presented module

Let R be a ring, X a class of R-modules and n>1 an integer. In this paper, via special finitely presented modules, we introduce the concepts of Gorenstein n-X-injective and n-X-flat modules. And aside, we obtain some equivalent properties of these modules on n-X-coherent rings. Then, we investigate the relations among Gorenstein n-X-injective, n-X-flat, injective and flat modules on X-FC-rings (i.e., self n-X-injective and n-X-coherent rings). Several known results are generalized to this new context

On proper and exact relative homological dimensions

In Enochs' relative homological dimension theory occur the so called (co)resolvent and (co)proper dimensions which are defined using proper and coproper resolutions constructed by precovers and preenvelopes, respectively. Recently, some authors have been interested in relative homological dimensions defined by just exact sequences. In this paper, we contribute to the investigation of these relative homological dimensions. We first study the relation between these two kinds of relative homological dimensions and establish some "transfer results" under adjoint pairs. Then, relative global dimensions are studied which lead to nice characterizations of some properties of particular cases of self-orthogonal subcategories. At the end of the paper, relative derived functors are studied and generalizations of some known results of balance for relative homology are established.

The category of modules on an n-trivial extension: the basic properties

In this paper we investigate a categorical aspect of $n$-trivial extension of a ring by a family of modules. Namely, we introduce the right (resp., left) $n$-trivial extension of a category by a family of endofunctors. Among other results, projective, injective and flat objects of this category are characterized. We end the paper with two applications. We characterize when an $n$-trivial extension ring is $k$-perfect and we establish a result on the selfinjective dimension of an $n$-trivial extension ring.

f-Biderivations and Jordan biderivations of unital algebras with idempotents

The notion of f-derivations was introduced by Beidar and Fong to unify several kinds of linear maps including derivations, Lie derivations and Jordan derivations. In this paper we introduce the notion of f-biderivations as a natural "biderivation" counterpart of the notion of "f-derivations". We first show, under some conditions, that any f-derivation is a Jordan biderivation. Then, we turn to study f-biderivations of a unital algebra with an idempotent. Our second main result shows, under some conditions, that every Jordan biderivation can be written as a sum of a biderivation, an antibiderivation and an extremal biderivation. As a consequence we show that every Jordan biderivation on a triangular algebra is a biderivation.

On Generalized $(m, n)$-Jordan Derivations and Centralizers of Semiprime Rings

In this paper we give an affirmative answer to two conjectures on generalized $(m,n)$-Jordan derivations and generalized $(m,n)$-Jordan centralizers raised in [S. Ali and A. Fošner, \textit{On Generalized $(m, n)$-Derivations and Generalized $(m, n)$-Jordan Derivations in Rings,} Algebra Colloq. \textbf{21} (2014), 411--420] and [A. Fošner, \textit{A note on generalized $(m,n)$-Jordan centralizers,} Demonstratio Math. \textbf{46} (2013), 254--262]. Precisely, when $R$ is a semiprime ring, we prove, under some suitable torsion restrictions, that every nonzero generalized $(m,n)$-Jordan derivation (resp., a generalized $(m,n)$-Jordan centralizer) is a derivation (resp., a two-sided centralizer).

Dhara-Rehman-Raza's identities on left ideals of prime rings

It is known that every nonzero Jordan ideal of $2$-torsion free semiprime rings contains a nonzero ideal. In this paper we show that also any square closed Lie ideal of a $2$-torsion free prime ring contains a nonzero ideal. This can be interpreted by saying that studying identities over one sided ideals is the "optimal" case to study identities. With this fact in mind, we generalize some results of Dhara, Rehman and Raza in [Lie ideals and action of generalized derivations in rings, Miskolc Mathematical Notes, \textbf{16} (2015), 769 -- 779] to the context of nonzero left ideals.

Derivations and the first cohomology group of trivial extension algebras

In this paper we investigate in details derivations on trivial extension algebras. We obtain generalizations of both known results on derivations on triangular matrix algebras and a known result on first cohomology group of trivial extension algebras. As a consequence we get the characterization of trivial extension algebras on which every derivation is inner. We show that, under some conditions, a trivial extension algebra on which every derivation is inner has necessarily a triangular matrix representation. The paper starts with detailed study (with examples) of the relation between the trivial extension algebras and the triangular matrix algebras.

On S-coherence

Recentely, Anderson and Dumitrescu's $S$-finiteness has attracted the interest of several authors. In this paper, we introduce the notions of $S$-finitely presented modules and then of $S$-coherent rings which are $S$-versions of finitely presented modules and coherent rings, respectively. Among other results, we give an $S$-version of the classical Chase's characterization of coherent rings. We end the paper with a brief discussion on other $S$-versions of finitely presented modules and coherent rings. We prove that these last $S$-versions can be characterized in terms of localization.

On n-Trivial Extensions of Rings

The notion of trivial extension of a ring by a module has been extensively studied and used in ring theory as well as in various other areas of research like cohomology theory, representation theory, category theory and homological algebra. In this paper we extend this classical ring construction by associating a ring to a ring $R$ and a family $M=(M_i)_{i=1}^{n}$ of $n$ $R$-modules for a given integer $n\geq 1$. We call this new ring construction an $n$-trivial extension of $R$ by $M$. In particular, the classical trivial extension will be just the $1$-trivial extension. Thus we generalize several known results on the classical trivial extension to the setting of $n$-trivial extensions and we give some new ones. Various ring-theoretic constructions and properties of $n$-trivial extensions are studied and a detailed investigation of the graded aspect of $n$-trivial extensions is also given. We end the paper with an investigation of various divisibily properties of $n$-trivial extensions. In this context several open questions arise.

n-X-Coherent Rings

This paper unifies several generalizations of coherent rings in one notion. Namely, we introduce $n$-$\mathscr{X}$-coherent rings, where $\mathscr{X}$ is a class of modules and $n$ is a positive integer, as those rings for which the subclass $\mathscr{X}_n$ of $n$-presented modules of $\mathscr{X}$ is not empty, and every module in $\mathscr{X}_n$ is $n+1$-presented. Then, for each particular class $\mathscr{X}$ of modules, we find correspondent relative coherent rings. Our main aim is to show that the well-known Chase's, Cheatham and Stone's, Enochs', and Stenstrom's characterizations of coherent rings hold true for any $n$-$\mathscr{X}$-coherent rings.

First, second, and third change of rings theorems for the Gorenstein homological dimensions

Motivated by their impact on homological algebra, the change of rings results have been the subject of several interesting works in Gorenstein homological algebra over Noetherian rings. In this paper, we investigate the change of rings theorems for the Gorenstein dimensions over arbitrary rings. Namely, by the use of the notion of strongly Gorenstein modules, we extend the well-known first, second, and third change of rings theorems for the classical projective and injective dimensions to the Gorenstein projective and injective dimensions, respectively. Each of the results established, in this paper, for the Gorenstein projective dimension is a generalization of a result established over Noetherian rings and for finitely generated modules. Each of the results established in this paper for the Gorenstein projective dimension is a generalization of a $G$-dimension of a finitely generated module $M$ over a noetherian ring $R$.

$(n,m)$-SG rings

This paper is a continuation of the paper Int. Electron. J. Algebra 6 (2009), 219-227. Namely, we introduce and study a doubly filtered set of classes of rings of finite Gorenstein global dimension, which are called $(n,m)$-SG for integers $n\geq 1$ and $m\geq 0$. Examples of $(n,m)$-SG rings, for $n=1$ and 2 and every $m\geq 0$, are given.

(n,m)-Strongly Gorenstein Projective Modules

This paper is a continuation of the papers J. Pure Appl. Algebra, 210 (2007), 437--445 and J. Algebra Appl., 8 (2009), 219--227. Namely, we introduce and study a doubly filtered set of classes of modules of finite Gorenstein projective dimension, which are called $(n,m)$-strongly Gorenstein projective ($(n,m)$-SG-projective for short) for integers $n\geq 1$ and $m\geq 0$. We are mainly interested in studying syzygies of these modules. As consequences, we show that a module $M$ has Gorenstein projective dimension at most $m$ if and only if $M\oplus G$ is $(1,m)$-SG-projective for some Gorenstein projective module $G$. And, over rings of finite left finitistic flat dimension, that a module of finite Gorenstein projective dimension has finite projective dimension if and only if it has finite flat dimension.

Global Gorenstein dimensions

In this paper, we prove that the global Gorenstein projective dimension of a ring $R$ is equal to the global Gorenstein injective dimension of $R$, and that the global Gorenstein flat dimension of $R$ is smaller than the common value of the terms of this equality.

Weak Gorenstein global dimension

In this paper, we investigate the weak Gorenstein global dimensions. We are mainly interested in studying the problem when the left and right weak Gorenstein global dimensions coincide. We first show, for GF-closed rings, that the left and right weak Gorenstein global dimensions are equal when they are finite. Then, we prove that the same equality holds for any two-sided coherent ring. We conclude the paper with some examples and a brief discussion of the scope and limits of our results.

A generalization of strongly Gorenstein projective modules

This paper generalize the idea of the authors in J. Pure Appl. Algebra 210 (2007) 437--445. Namely, we define and study a particular case of Gorenstein projective modules. We investigate some change of rings results for this new kind of modules. Examples over not necessarily Noetherian rings are given.

Global Gorenstein dimensions of polynomial rings and of direct products of rings

In this paper, we extend the well-known Hilbert's syzygy theorem to the Gorenstein homological dimensions of rings. Also, we study the Gorenstein homological dimensions of direct products of rings. Our results generate examples of non-Noetherian rings of finite Gorenstein dimensions and infinite classical weak dimension.
